Since it says "powdered" im going to assume that it was flash powder. Usually consisting of Mg, or Al, a high oxidating agent and sulfur. REAL dynamite is Nitroglycerin. Made up of Sulfiric acid, nitric acid and glycerin and something to make it moldable. Also nitroglycerin is usually set off by blasting caps.

@ppackingnegro People are trained by Hollywood to think a big explosion MUST be accompanied by a large fireball. The truth is a giant fireball is from a slow burning explosion, where as high-powered, fast explosions are hard to see, but very powerful. These fast explosions produce a lot of gas, which breaks apart rocks. If you want a "sick" explosion, your better off pursuing flour or sawdust cannons.
