That's why the lyrics from the song Poor Thing earlier in the movie were "and everyone thought it so droll. They figured she had to be daff, you see, so all of them stood there and laughed, you see" The guests knew Lucy was going to be raped and figured she was so dumb as to not expect it to happen. Some people are really rotten....

@halohali32 Who is the she that you are refering to? The only she I am aware of that did anything wrong is Lovett, or however you spell her name. I both defend and am against what Lovett did with the bodies. There was profit to be made. By human standards, she did the worst thing possible. By other standards, there was a profit to be made, she could be arrested too, so she did what kept her out of jail and brought her out of any debt, made her feel happy.

@halohali32 Watch the movie all the way though. But, she again did what she thought was best, though in this case her choice was influenced by personal emotions. She loved Barker. When Lucy poisoned herself and ended up as she did, Lovett saw a chance once Barker returned to find Lucy, to get revenge on Turpin and to get his daughter. So she crafted a tiny lie, a harmless lie. It was truly better that Todd thought his wife to be dead, rather than having him search the whole of London for Lucy.

Don't hate on Toby! I thought it was a fitting ending. I mean, we all knew that Mr. Todd just couldn't be alive at the end. And after all, he probably did cause Toby the most personal pain out of anyone; killing his boss, killing mrs Lovett, basically taking everything the boy cared about. And he knew that he had to do it after seeing what a monster mr Todd had become.
