  • Hi, you mentioned about not using a computer with firewalls etc.

I have a Motu 428 mkII interface that I purchased recently and it really doesn't like windows7.

I got the win7 drivers from Motu website, loaded it all and it sees all the channels in Ableton, and appears to be about to work, then a short while afterwards it crashes the whole pc.

Is it because win7 is too anal about every program it sees or is it ableton that doesn't like the Motu? Any ideas?

  • Grizzly Adams, does your mom know you're using all that old equipment in her basement?

  • @carebayers haha, that's good. Yes this is old stuff. I admit it. No problem with me. I have newer stuff now but still not amazing.

  • Wow Jammer Professional I haven't seen that in forever. I have ver 3.0 from back in the 90,s I used to love that program . It was manufactured by SoundTrec out of Duluth GA. Cool

  • @ricktech44 Hehe I know! I loved it too a couple years ago. Great fun. Still use it from time to time. Yep Soundtrec, what a great software they made. Thanks buddy.

  • when did you make this video? Your PC, software and equipment looks.....old..XD

  • @loombaron A bunch of years ago. And yes, the stuff is old but works like a charm. I've kept that system lean and not updated much to avoid software and hardware issues and have been perfectly happy with it as is.

  • its fine, anyway I recommend you check out the new stuff. Cubase 6.0, Ableton live 8, Propellerhead reason, Logic, and so many more. And if you have some money to spend get an imac or a updated PC, a new soundcard, a midi controller, etc. You will be able to do a lot more than with your actual equipment.

  • @loombaron Got the Cubase I need, Wavelab, Waves plugs, spent some time with many of the software titles you mention as well as others. Computer is running perfect, totally clean, no extra software, no virus checker, not even wallpaper. Don't use a soundcard anyhow as I use either a USB or firewire interface, have a midi controller. Really don't need the advice but thanks, I guess, for feeling it necessary to give. Think I'm doing just fine with what I have.

  • yea. virus checker firewall and internet not on the music pc :D

    that made my day :D:D

  • 1997 - good times.. i was in elementry school when this video was made

  • dude did you record this in 1998??

  • @0rth0doX Does it seem that way? I guess I had some pretty crappy computer gear 2 years ago and not a pro at video by any means. Oh well, just doing what i can. Thanks for watching.

  • @zerobio a-ha ok , I thought when I saw that windows 9x and that white old speakers and crt monitor

  • On your audio only computer, so to speak, did you disable all services and your regular soundcard? Could you tell me more about this?

    I have a us 1641...

  • @Nebelrazer Yes, I have disabled everything and have minimal software on it. Only music stuff, no internet, no virus, no spyware, etc. Not even wallpaper on the desktop. Maching is clean but not very powerful compared with what people are using today.

  • Need help here. i recorded sound at a friend's studio recently with this cubase 5. At his place, we able to played and edited the sound we just recorded. So i asked a copy, since i have a similar software (just installed) and planned to edit it myself. Then he gave me a copies with ".cpr", ".csh" & ".bak" type of files. By the time i reach home and trying to open up these files on my cubase 5, there is no sound came out. Instead an error message with 'resolve missing file' appeared. why is that?

  • @itaybadivideos For sure, you should see what you can come up with. Jammer is still going and getting better. These days I only use it to help me write and sometimes I use the drum tracks it generates after editing. Definitely useful for me.

  • I didn't realize the jammer pro 6 was effective as it was until I started the old school project.

  • @MRNEEDMO Cool! I really do like jammer, it helps me when i'm writing and then in the end i go without it when i record the final version. but i still use it a lot for drums because sadly i'm not a drummer.

  • what about guitar pro? ;P

  • @d3tach3d sure thing! anything that works for you is great.

  • Came across this video looking for

More recording technics thanks for this

    well done

Will check out your channel sounds great

  • @faffytunes I have to admit I'm not the biggest techie and can't answer many of the questions posted to this song's thread. I got my system and it works. Thank you though for checking out my channel and hope to hear from you again.

  • @zerobio why didn't you just use Cubase to compose your song? Why do you need a separate program?

  • @PopCulture20 Because i didn't want to create backing tracks note by note, I used composition software in this video which takes your chords and generates music parts which can then be edited later. Less original than doing it all myself but still very useful.

  • @zerobio So as a beginner, do you recommend that I use Jammer Import?

  • @PopCulture20 Absolutely! Jammer could be just what you are looking for. I would recommend it over Band in a Box (another composition software). If you don't play multiple instruments or don't have access to drums and keyboards, i would definitely say you should try it and see if you can use it in your process of writing and recording. Good luck and feel free to write me again with more questions.

  • i hope you've upgraded your equipment over the years. those computer speakers do no good and you ought to have proper monitor speakers by now.

  • @LightRoll yeah I don't use those computer speakers for sure. Thanks for coming by.

  • guys im having a prob i record the guitar into cubase but when i hear it, it sounds delayed, any solutions?

  • @Camelo71 is it in an eternal loop maybe ? mic, speaker, mic, speaker

  • i just bought the Alesis MultiMix8 and i have cubase le5. I can't get my mixer to record on cubase can you help?

  • @zerobio Hey thanks for the post!!....Im looking to produce my own original beats using Cubase 5 with absolutely 'no samples what so ever' cuzz i would like to get what i create copyright........Can I do that with the Cubase 5???----what's Jammer??? Do I need that to do this?

  • @LeopoldSuper13 Check out Jammer but you will be disappointed if you want to do it all yourself, which it sounds like. I really congratulate you on wanting to do it by yourself, be original and creative. good luck!

  • @zerobio and also what do you think of Cakewalk Sonar?

  • @PopCulture20 Fantastic program! In fact, search for a guy named "dustypuppy" here on YT. He has tons of video tutorials on this program. Can't go wrong with that.

  • Any Ideas why whenever I try to record its like if I didn't have a mic plugged in..? Like it doesn't register any sounds comming in from my usb mic.. HELP?

  • @MrZonyMusic in the track, the upper part, you have the input and output parameters, check if input has your mic selected.

  • i got the tascam us 428 a few days ago from somebody off the internet. i'm using windows 7 so i couldn't install it on that computer but i have another one that has windows xp and is vista compatable, i thought i could install it on that one but i'm still not having any luck. Is it really necessary to use a apple type of computer to get this tascam interface going or do i need a sound module too,

  • i bouth today a tascam us-428 and i have an issue...i don`t know how to use the faders with cubase when i`ll move the faders manually to automatically move also virtual in cubase...and also to use the record or play buttons....on the website they are not give to the people any tips...please help me

  • Hi Zerobio, grat video. Do you know how to record live changes while playing a MIDI track? I would like to play with some modules while listening to what I played, but I don't manage to do so. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • have you ever tried guitar pro instead of jammer? I've been use it and it seems a lot easier

  • @TheGreenWaver No, I haven't tried that but maybe I should. Thanks for mentioning it. :)

  • Keep up the good work, I have a Roland JV 1080 and a Roland SC-88pro, I also have a Roland groovebox, if only more people still used hardware midi devices, not necessarily instead of vst instruments but as well as vst instruments.

  • @Penguindog55 Wow, nice gear you have! You must be really enjoying it all. Thanks for your comment and lets keep rocking.

  • Comment removed

  • @Penguindog55 Great stuff! Glad you're doing well with all your keyboards and various instruments. I completely agree that some of the free VST's are good.

  • Hey, (in cubase) when i record a second track, why is the first track also recorded again?

    thx

  • @mounspe It shouldn't. If you arm 1 track (and not the other) you should be able to just record on that track. Hope you can find an answer. Keep asking that question to the real cubase gurus on here.

  • @mounspe I had the same problem. I found that I had the mono send on my mixer sending previous tracks back into cubase. Check how your mixer is set up

  • I haven't found any information as to how to record MIDI in Cubase, particularly when using an R16 recorder, interface: controler. Can anyone help. I can find information about recording audio but not digitally using a keyboard. Please, can anyone help?

  • probs pretty stupid question

but if i have cubase and a mixer

can i record my band.. like running everything through the mixer... using it like an 8 track kinda?

  • Yes, sent the output from your mixer into your computer sound card while cubase is running and record. But you probably want to look into the various USB/firewire audio recording solutions. good luck

  • yeah ive got this recordy usb thing

i was talking to some people. looks like i need a bigger one, so i can run all the drums into it seperatly.

  • sweet tim hortons:):)

  • how much is cubase

  • Not sure how much the current version is ... probably up there in the $500-$800 range (CDN). You can get other cheaper programs for recording that are great.

  • thanx. do you know any cheaper ones

  • I bought a Tascam audio interface for $160 (with tax included) and It came with Cubase.

  • Fantastic! I will check out your channel and see if you've got it going on.

  • I dont know how to use it though..I Can't even record anything.

  • Keep messing with it, see if you can get some help here or on a cubase forum or even from a local music store. Good luck!

  • thanx i am gunna buy it

  • Great! Good luck.

  • which one did you get? I'm lookin for something right now and am considering a Tascam..thx!

  • Its a Tascam us 122L.

  • I have a Roland JV-1010 here as well. You know in Cubase SX I can select Midi Device -> JV-1010 and it recognizes the different sounds on the Roland Synth. You can now chose a Midi Channel and a Sound and compose the music in Cubase and do not have to use the knobs on the soundmodule. Its really helpful!

  • Yep, you are correct. Thanks.

  • Hey Elliot, that's great. I use Cakewalk Sonar Producer which I think is not too bad for my needed.. I'm not as active as before so to me it's ok. Very interesting my friend, thanks for showing us your tricks.

    Ray

  • I think Sonar is fantastic! Have you seen the tutorials by dustypuppy? If not just search his name, he uses Sonar and i have done some work with him. Thanks for checking out this somewhat boring video and good luck to you Ray and your great songs. You make Elvis alive for me!

  • Whenever i play back the recorded guitar part, i can only hear it on the left side of the headphones. I've set up a mono track for the guitar. How can i fix this??

  • Not sure what the issue is here. Perhaps the panning on your input (mixer) is set to one side and not up the middle? Are you coming out of a stereo effects pedal with just one guitar cord? Are there two outputs on the pedal and you're just using one? I use both outputs on my effects unit, go into the mixer with both of those, record in mono but it's straight up the middle in headphones. Keep trying stuff and you'll figure it out.

  • when you use it, the guitar tones are MONO, that means its always going to be on the left side(left is the Mono standard) you will probably want to make the input goto left and right. on a mixer its simple because it pans the guitar/bass/whatever...

  • when i record audio in to cubase why does it come in really low

im using cubase ai4 with a yamaha mw12cx anybody have a clue

  • Yeah, i think you really have to crank your input volume. I use a Tascam US-428 mixer/input and unless I have the masters and trim up at least 3/4, I get low volume. Good luck and keep experimenting.

  • I use tascam and cubase too. I can record my guitar as audio with the tascam machine, i see the waves on cubase, but cant hear it on my computer. as out i select the computer sound card.. i dont get this one :/

  • I think you need to select the Tascam US-428, not your computer soundcard. Keep searching youtube for guys that put out good cubase tutorials and write them with details. Good luck, I hope you get this sorted out.

  • ok thx, and if i put the output as tascam, and i plug some headphones in the box, i will hear the music? thx anyway

  • Do you mean headphones in the Tascam? That's the way to do it. And if you DO get sound, it's going to sound great coming from cubase and through the Tascam! Let me know if/when you get this working and let's talk music sometime, too.

  • yeah sure, ill let you know when ill post the sound im writting, it might take a while tho ^^

  • No problem. Good luck and keep at it!

  • this is helpful Elliot. mate you chose the right kind of job

  • Hi Doug. Well I'm glad you think so. I never really expected it to be very helpful but at least an overview for those who don't know how one guy (me) goes about it. I will continue the "Write/Record a Song" VERY soon and that will use the same gear but be more indepth. Thanks so much, Doug.

  • I have cubase but use instead, live novation

I have a thing called cubase base station i use though. I dont put sugar and drums into my songs. I gotter get to that

  • I'm not familiar with live notation but you certainly have it working for you. And I've been so busy and mostly unable to put "sugar and drums" (nice one) into my songs either.

  • i use photoshop...

  • Great program but we're not talking the same purpose though are we Grandpa.

  • Chirp, I'm sorry you feel that way. It wasn't particularly supposed to help anyone, more to show what I'm using so the video series makes sense. However, I *do* know what I'm doing and hopefully for some, it won't be useless. Hope you'll stick around my channel and find something you like. Take it easy.

  • you need Cubase sx 2 or 3 and use VST instruments check out vsts such as Virtual guitarist, hallion, hypersonic 2, virtual basist, etc etc

  • Yeah, I know, I'm way behind in my upgrades. I do use the VST instruments in Cubase 5 but not all that much. Would also like some of those you mentioned. Thanks.

  • Bad ass, wheres the 4 track?

  • Haha, it's all on computer. Unlimited tracks in Cubase. Check out the final version of the song, "Walk With You". Let me know what you think ok?

  • I use Logic 8 for Mac. Its an amazing program, just a little complex :P I didn't know you had all this equipment!

  • Yep, Logic and Mac will definitely get the job done great! I am a big cubase fan but it's been a long time since I upgraded! Thanks Matt.
