This really helped i am getting a wacom --- (spelled incorrectly sry) tablet for christmas im just curious as to if u can set the thickness of the brush instead of pressure.
Thank for your reviews, after the first I was sceptic due to the lag but figured it should just the your system - which you confirmed here. I'm in the market for my first and seeing that it's so small (at only $8 high) and from your reviews is pretty awesome, I think I'll get this one.
@ISMELLBAKERS :) on the amazon website, it says "A variety of useful Bamboo apps inside Bamboo Dock are kept ready for download, as well as full versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements and ArtRage - Bamboo Fun Medium even comes with a full version of Corel Painter Essentials. "
@ISMELLBAKERS it comes with a light version of Photoshop, not much fun. Best if you go and buy a copy or grab another program, doesn't have to be Photoshop.
Is it accurate because im getting it for my birthday this friday and I wanted to know. So what I want to know is when you go onto the corner of the tablet would it do the same.
Good review, im thinking of buying one of these as the tablet i have now is failng to keep up.. or so i thought, you said that when you ran the bamboo on your laptop it was glitchy? is that cos the bamboo dint like it or was your MBP not as upto date the reason i ask is that i use a MBP and now im thinking my tablet is failing cos of the Pro,.. please answer if you could be a great help.
Can you "lock" the tablet so you only move around in a specified window? That would increase the accuracy when drawing in programs like photoshop. Is it possible to lock the tablet to the drawing window? I hope you see this! Great video by the way, thanks!
Thank you, I'm a bit new to tablets and I've been looking for one that's not too expensive but isn't poor quality. I was a bit unsure about this tablet when I saw it being sold but I found your review really helpful ^ ^
I teach math online & am looking for a way to be able to share handwritten work (math problems) over e-mail. How easy would it be to use the Bamboo Pen & Touch for that purpose? Thanks for any advice & thanks for posting the video!
@atentoni as far as i know, this could work also with microsoft word, if that's the case, then it could be pretty easy, this work with mac and pc, so there`s no problem with that, if this doesn't work with word, photoshop does a perfect work, it could be exported as an image or a pdf archive, wick makes the size of the file really light to send it via e-mail
I see it renders curves pretty well when you draw. If you had a thin brush like a pen with a felt tip (1 Pt thickness maybe) or a hairline thickness and if you drew curves like circles, swirls etc, would they come out perfectly smooth or would you see any jagged (stepped) or rough curves?
When you pick up the pen while drawing, does the mouse on the screen move with the pen so you can see on the picture where the pen is? Sorry if that sounds obscure, I just really want to know :)
@fuzzylittlebunny yeah you can hover without firing a click on the tablet. Thats how you can navigate around. One of those things you do without thinking when you use the tablet.
@kaylapimentel I bought my copy because I needed it for work. I dont agree with how much it costs and that somehow its 2x as much in Australia after currency conversion. I digress. If youre a student there is a student version which is cheaper. Of course, there are other ways but not anything that can be discussed in an open forum.
@ilikedatube Photoshop 4? I hope you mean CS4 :p The tablet is just a Human Interface Device so it works on any application just like a cursor/mouse and it has a few extra features like pressure sensitivity which Photoshop supports.
I want you to tell me: should I buy this one as my first tablet for some graphic making and work with it untill I can afford something more expensive or it's not worth spending money on it and I should stick with my logitech mouse (VX Revolution) ? :) I want you to answer me because some time passed since you bought your own and you won't be as affected by it as after first few days :P
@Umarluch well this is one of those questions that is hard to answer unless I am you :) If you're financially ok at the moment then why not give it a go. It's relatively cheap and gives a good result. I only do some basic Photoshop work, not illustrating/drawing, and it suits me well. I wont be upgrading for a while. If you're a diehard illustrator maybe save up a little more for a larger or better tablet. All i can say is, if you can, try before you buy and keep the receipt!
The real question is imo: do you need pen-tilting?
That's the biggest difference from the Intuous serie. Twice as big might be an issue if you never drawn stuff on 1/4 of A4 and need that area to make a circle and stuff.
Personally: I like it small, I don't need to move my hand a lot. In worst case scenario I can "map' my pad to only 1/4 of my screen and have the usage of a pad on A4 format (medium=A5, I have an A6), if need arises. Don't need entire screen, most is GUI anyway->touch
@ChaoLover172 no idea. if GIMP can handle a cursor then the basics of this tablet should work. If GIMP can handle pressure sensitivity is up to if its been supported yet. From a quick google on the matter it looks like there are mixed results. Keep the purchase receipt handy :)
the only thing that bothers me about the bamboo's in comparison to the intuos4 is that when you move on the bamboo you hear a scratching noise, and the intuos is really smooth giving you some more friction to simulate paper better, BUT if you look at the price of the bamboo we can't complain about that :3
Thanks for making this video :) My english isnt good, i will use easy words :D I would like to buy this board to useing it for photoshop. My questions is: Can i fix the size from the pen? That i dont have the effect from smal to big by pressing the pen on the board?
And:
I have a flat-screen in medium size. I need to buy a S - M- L Board?Or is that indifferent?
@Unverarschbar hey. you can turn off pressure sensitive brushing in Photoshop. doesn't matter what size of screen you have, you can change the settings for the tablet around display style (widescreen, square etc). I have the small one and a 22" widescreen monitor, works great :)
@pgf95 in my opinion, the touch is useless except if you want to use it as a trackpad (like a laptop). A pen only one would be a good option, and to save a few bucks.
the thickness of my lines doesn't change while drawing in Photoshop. Also when I use the eraser it just draw more line, rather than erasing. what should I do? is the any option that I should choose before i use bamboo in any program?
@76Cent there should be a button on the side that allows you to switch modes, so it'll be only sensitive to the pen, or only sensitive to touch. but if you forget to switch, I think the pen automatically dominates the input. at least I think so, I just have the bamboo pen so I don't have to worry about that anyway. XD
yeah i have been looking to get this as like a starter touch tablet for drawing and such via photoshop and color fx, just wanted to know what you thought of it as a starter tablet, cause it is fairly cheap, and i really want one, thanks!
@sobekflakmonkey I think its a pretty good starter tablet. You dont have to make a big investment in it and its very portable and small so you can tuck it away when you dont need it. And if you out grow it then you can get one of the larger Wacoms.
for this wacom bamboo pen & touch does it have an art program installed in it? i only have the Paint and i don't really like the idea. Paint does not control the hardness so my drawings are quite weird. but if i buy this wacom bamboo pen & touch and it has an art program in it, it will make my work easier. Is there an art program already installed in it?
@yingxyangx4ever the tablet comes with Photoshop Elements. I dont use Elements, I have the Design Suite, but I believe it may have the brush tool with pressure response. Maybe read up on Ps Elements and see what it can do.
Great review, I have this tablet and I find it really difficult to use how ever I used it for drawing, and this particular tablet for me is just crap.
@paramoretwilight101 yeah it might not be the right tool for someone wanting to do some serious drawing. thanks for commenting with your experience :)
Just a random thought, but I like how it sounds, lol. When you were writing it sounded like it was pencil on paper. I'm usually using traditional tools (Pen, pencil, paint, and of course paper), but I want to have a go and see how art is in the digital world.
@BloodyGuru Yup it's meant to emulate the real world tools. Even a little too real, the nibs do wear down but not quickly and you are given spares. Still on my first nib and it hardly looks any different from when I got it.
Maybe it's a dumb question but how can u know where to start drawing?
If you draw an eye and you wanna draw another next to it how can u know where u have to start. I mean u can't see on the tablet where ur other eyes is u only see it on the screen if u know what i mean?
@jenske65 not a dumb question at all. I had the same thought too. Its like using a mouse in that you dont watch your hand to move the cursor. the tablet has a hover state so you can move the pen around without making a click and still move the cursor. its just like using a mouse but upright :) Once you use one you'll understand.
Thank you so much for the review, it definitely helped me decide what to buy, so this week I'm most likely setting out to get my very own Bamboo (: however, might get just a Bamboo Pen (without the touch), since it's only $79,... would you recommend that I make the jump to the $130 Pen and Touch instead? I'm planning on using it for graphic art/greeting card design, but I was wondering what's your opinion on mouse vs. touchpad. Thanks :)
I'm planning on using it for graphic art/greeting card design, but I was wondering what's your opinion on mouse vs. touchpad. Thanks :)
@lolserify Well if its for graphic design, then the Pen only version is just fine. For me, personally, the touch function is a gimmick. Sure I have used it but its a little bit buggy and overall I dont care if its there or not. The pen is the really only way I use it.
@CABdosdos For touch, with your fingers, no pen needs to be present. To click you can touch the nib to the surface or program one of the buttons either on the tablet or pen to click for you. You can hover the pen over the tablet to move the cursor without invoking a click.
@CABdosdos Yes that was the pen on the tablet. The pen, not requiring batteries, uses short range wireless power from the tablet. When the nib on the pen makes contact with the tablet a wireless signal is sent to the tablet with it's coordinates. It's fairly awesome. So it's just like writing on paper because that's what it's trying to replicate sans ink.
I have a question, I'm about to buy a Graphic Tablet, But just like evryone else I don't know what's the perfect for digital painting, matte painting, t-shirts designs, logos. which is the best for this kind of work? I've got only $350, in Mexico city is $270 Bambo Fun Pen&Touch, and $340 Intuos4 Small. What Graphic Tablet you guys recommend to buy? Thanks.
@ANTHMX Im not sure if I can help you there. I have only used the tablet for basic Illustrator and Photoshop work. If you're going to be serious about what you are doing then maybe getting a higher model is a better idea. Also, if at all possible, try before you buy.
@ImahGoer its up to you. when I am using mine I tend to use it instead of the mouse. just what ever's handy at the time and if you like navigating in that way. there is no technical limitation for using it as a mouse if thats what you're asking.
@EckyPro Yes, that's what I was implying. Great, I think this is an excellent idea and I was looking to replace my mouse (which keeps 'skipping') and mouse pad. I have an Intuos3 but it's too big for my desk space so this seems ideal. Thank you for answering so quickly.
@livinliqid its just like the pen on it, it has a fat flat surface which doesn't give you absolute precision but you get over that. I might have had issues in the video but it was just me and not having the eraser size turned up.
@enjoi46 it comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6(mac) / 7 (win). I dont use Elements as I have my own Photoshop so I am not sure how good it would be for drawing a lot with the tablet.
@dancelikealatino the physical size of the tablet is 248mm long, 176mm tall and 8.5mm deep. The active area is 147 x 92mm. The one I used was the smallest (CTH-460) for the Pen & Touch range but I dont find its size limiting at all. However I am not a great drawer or illustrator so having a larger area might be beneficial for more accurate drawing.
hi! youve done an awesome review covering the most essential bits - for me, that would be pertaining to pen pressure and sensitivity, because i plan to use it mostly for linework. ive been wondering if the intuos4 pen is better, but after reading this, im certainly feeling reassured (im about to test these two products at my local dealer today--hopefully they offer both for comparison, but if not, i now have the reassurance i need to go for the bamboo as its cheaper.)
The pressure sensitivity is quite good. I had issues with my nib in the video but that was just my nib, replaced it with one of the other 2 and it was all good.
Im no illustrator so im not 100% sure about how sensitive you need to go but it will happily go from 30px to 3px in a nice smooth line.
For it's price you cant go wrong. If you get it and its just not perfect drop in a video demo/reply showing your issue :)
i just got the small bamboo - i wanted to test first but they had neither the intuos4 nor the bamboo available for that which pissed me off a bit cause hey, this is so new where i am (Kuala Lumpur) - and how can you sell something to someone at such a price when they dont even know what theyll be paying for!
anyway the deal was, if i didnt like it, id switch it for an intuos4 in 3 days, or, if small is just too small for me, id switch it for medium. havent tried it yet - ill show you the end results when im done! (but it will take some time, tho!)
hey, thanks for this very useful instructional video! lovely HD, too i must say!
This really helped i am getting a wacom --- (spelled incorrectly sry) tablet for christmas im just curious as to if u can set the thickness of the brush instead of pressure.

for this wacom bamboo pen & touch does it have an art program installed in it? i only have the Paint and i don't really like the idea. Paint does not control the hardness so my drawings are quite weird. but if i buy this wacom bamboo pen & touch and it has an art program in it, it will make my work easier. Is there an art program already installed in it?
yingxyangx4ever 1 year ago
@yingxyangx4ever the tablet comes with Photoshop Elements. I dont use Elements, I have the Design Suite, but I believe it may have the brush tool with pressure response. Maybe read up on Ps Elements and see what it can do.

Great review, I have this tablet and I find it really difficult to use how ever I used it for drawing, and this particular tablet for me is just crap.
paramoretwilight101 1 year ago
@paramoretwilight101 yeah it might not be the right tool for someone wanting to do some serious drawing. thanks for commenting with your experience :)

Just a random thought, but I like how it sounds, lol. When you were writing it sounded like it was pencil on paper. I'm usually using traditional tools (Pen, pencil, paint, and of course paper), but I want to have a go and see how art is in the digital world.
BloodyGuru 1 year ago
@BloodyGuru Yup it's meant to emulate the real world tools. Even a little too real, the nibs do wear down but not quickly and you are given spares. Still on my first nib and it hardly looks any different from when I got it.

Maybe it's a dumb question but how can u know where to start drawing?
If you draw an eye and you wanna draw another next to it how can u know where u have to start. I mean u can't see on the tablet where ur other eyes is u only see it on the screen if u know what i mean?
jenske65 1 year ago
@jenske65 not a dumb question at all. I had the same thought too. Its like using a mouse in that you dont watch your hand to move the cursor. the tablet has a hover state so you can move the pen around without making a click and still move the cursor. its just like using a mouse but upright :) Once you use one you'll understand.

@EckyPro thx for the awnser i think i gonna buy the bamboo fun ;)

Thank you so much for the review, it definitely helped me decide what to buy, so this week I'm most likely setting out to get my very own Bamboo (: however, might get just a Bamboo Pen (without the touch), since it's only $79,... would you recommend that I make the jump to the $130 Pen and Touch instead? I'm planning on using it for graphic art/greeting card design, but I was wondering what's your opinion on mouse vs. touchpad. Thanks :)

lolserify 1 year ago
@lolserify Well if its for graphic design, then the Pen only version is just fine. For me, personally, the touch function is a gimmick. Sure I have used it but its a little bit buggy and overall I dont care if its there or not. The pen is the really only way I use it.
EckyPro 1 year ago
@lolserify Another thing to note is that the Pen & Touch has twice the amount of pressure levels (1024) than just the pen version (512).

How much is this bamboo set? this the $159 AUS one?
zerolimits456 1 year ago
@zerolimits456 yup. CTH-460 "Bamboo Pen & Touch"
EckyPro 1 year ago
question!!! are you actually supposed to have the pen make contact with the surface of the tablet?
CABdosdos 1 year ago
@CABdosdos For touch, with your fingers, no pen needs to be present. To click you can touch the nib to the surface or program one of the buttons either on the tablet or pen to click for you. You can hover the pen over the tablet to move the cursor without invoking a click.
EckyPro 1 year ago
@EckyPro Aw cause when you were drawing I swore I heard the pen scribbling on the tablet was that what it was?
CABdosdos 1 year ago

Thanks.
ANTHMX 1 year ago
@ANTHMX Im not sure if I can help you there. I have only used the tablet for basic Illustrator and Photoshop work. If you're going to be serious about what you are doing then maybe getting a higher model is a better idea. Also, if at all possible, try before you buy.
EckyPro 1 year ago
@ANTHMX go to ebay and get a int 4 medium for about the same price or less you may even get lucky with a large

Can this replace a mouse ?
ImahGoer 1 year ago
@ImahGoer its up to you. when I am using mine I tend to use it instead of the mouse. just what ever's handy at the time and if you like navigating in that way. there is no technical limitation for using it as a mouse if thats what you're asking.
EckyPro 1 year ago
@EckyPro Yes, that's what I was implying. Great, I think this is an excellent idea and I was looking to replace my mouse (which keeps 'skipping') and mouse pad. I have an Intuos3 but it's too big for my desk space so this seems ideal. Thank you for answering so quickly.
ImahGoer 1 year ago
@ImahGoer yes it can but since you have been useing a mouse so long it will take some time but its actuall better than a mouse

What is the eraser like on this? thanks
livinliqid 1 year ago
@livinliqid its just like the pen on it, it has a fat flat surface which doesn't give you absolute precision but you get over that. I might have had issues in the video but it was just me and not having the eraser size turned up.
EckyPro 1 year ago
can you do a drawing video a real good test. plz.
dartski245 1 year ago
does the bamboo pen and touch come with photoshop and nic color software
enjoi46 1 year ago
@enjoi46 it comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6(mac) / 7 (win). I dont use Elements as I have my own Photoshop so I am not sure how good it would be for drawing a lot with the tablet.
EckyPro 1 year ago
uhm, btw, what size is this?
dancelikealatino 1 year ago
@dancelikealatino wow I did forget that didn't I ! Heres the specs:
Model Name: CTH-460
Size: Small
Tablet Dimensions: 248 x 176 x 8.5 (mm)
Pen Active Area: 147 x 92 (mm)
Touch Active Area: 125 x 85 (mm)
EckyPro 1 year ago
@dancelikealatino the physical size of the tablet is 248mm long, 176mm tall and 8.5mm deep. The active area is 147 x 92mm. The one I used was the smallest (CTH-460) for the Pen & Touch range but I dont find its size limiting at all. However I am not a great drawer or illustrator so having a larger area might be beneficial for more accurate drawing.

hi! youve done an awesome review covering the most essential bits - for me, that would be pertaining to pen pressure and sensitivity, because i plan to use it mostly for linework. ive been wondering if the intuos4 pen is better, but after reading this, im certainly feeling reassured (im about to test these two products at my local dealer today--hopefully they offer both for comparison, but if not, i now have the reassurance i need to go for the bamboo as its cheaper.)
dancelikealatino 1 year ago
The pressure sensitivity is quite good. I had issues with my nib in the video but that was just my nib, replaced it with one of the other 2 and it was all good.
Im no illustrator so im not 100% sure about how sensitive you need to go but it will happily go from 30px to 3px in a nice smooth line.
For it's price you cant go wrong. If you get it and its just not perfect drop in a video demo/reply showing your issue :)
Cheers.

@EckyPro
hey dewd,
i just got the small bamboo - i wanted to test first but they had neither the intuos4 nor the bamboo available for that which pissed me off a bit cause hey, this is so new where i am (Kuala Lumpur) - and how can you sell something to someone at such a price when they dont even know what theyll be paying for!
dancelikealatino 1 year ago
anyway the deal was, if i didnt like it, id switch it for an intuos4 in 3 days, or, if small is just too small for me, id switch it for medium. havent tried it yet - ill show you the end results when im done! (but it will take some time, tho!)
hey, thanks for this very useful instructional video! lovely HD, too i must say!

going to buy one now :)
