Where are they now, these multi-talented greats of yesteryear? If you mentioned Peter Sellers to the geeks who view X Factor, Britains got shit etc., they would wonder who you were talking about, thank god I lived when I did, I have memories and youtube to back them up..
There are times when ignorance really IS bliss. Sellers was my all-time hero, until I read several books about him, and saw that excellent film of his lfe. You can blame his monsterous egotistical fame chasing mother, but in the end, as a grown man who came from nothing--had nothing, he was unbeleivably selfish, needy, and irrisponsible to his wife and children--and everyone who indulged him and tried to help and support him. Seff destructing--doesn't even come close.
God I really admire that he is speaking frankly and candidly about his life...celebrities these days are all about covering everything up. He's a real person! I love Peter Sellers!
The sad thing is this man was a narcissist, egostistic, violent personality who he broke the life of many people even the life of his children, who did their best with him. And even with this disatrous personality he was a genious a great artist, in some films a wonderful actor. This is the sad thing o P.S.
I thought that Geoffry Rush played Peter Sellers well, and really portrayed the manic brilliance of him. He desperately wanted to shake off the shackles of Inspector Cluseau.
@bacala777 i was just thinking that. I think lennon listened to the goon show a lot. Must of picked up little quips and mannerisms from it. But even just his nose is like Sellers hah
I really agree about the John Lennon similarity with Peter Sellers. I always thought htey looked alike and had a similar sense of humor. But I just dicovered the George Formby connection. I always thought that "Polythene Pam" was john doing his Formby impersonation.
Of course we all listened to the Goon Show back in those days in England. So if Sellers was Lennon, then McCartney was Harry Secombe.
Problem was, Lennon had more than a touch of Spike Milligan about him. McCartney was't really like a comedian, Ringo Starr was quite an old-fashioned entertainer compared to the other Beatles.
I see Harrison as more like a Python than a Goon- after all Harrison was great friends with Eric Idle in particular.
I read that he didn't want to do a full on interview, but he seems drunk, so maybe that's why he's talking so much about his failed marriages. It's really sad to see such a talented person so unhappy and depressed.
dis fooking lad is from a different galaxy born mistakenly on earth. well 13 heart attacks didnt put him down in 2 days , well God's ego was pretty blown apart and decided to put his lights out finally fearing he'd be superseded by Monsieur sellers .
hats off to Peter the one and only of his kind...................................
BON VOYAGE Mr sellers wherever you've reached thus far in this unknown universe................................................
He's not only drunk, he's incredibly lonely. The interviewer tries to save him, but it's so sad. He was a very sad person in real life I think. I think he was happiest when working.
@Sodacake I'm very happy about that. Peter Sellers is one of the best comics that ever lived! I miss him dearly. That's great to hear. Thanks for telling me about that.
He once confessed in 1978: "There is no me. There used to be a me, but I had it surgically removed". The problem was, he was wearing a horned helmet (claiming to be dressed as Queen Victoria) and talking to Kermit.
Another problem was, he had a great interest in vigorous sex with modelesque blondes (not Muppet related) and a weak heart...
@kirk7524875248 that is true from what I know and I am a fan as are most who are familiar with his work, but why should such a funny entertaining person end up lonely and sad? That doesn't make sense to me.
more layers than an onion, amazing how he talks about his failed marriages, you can actually see the hurt on his face as he shares it with the nation, then he goes on 2 minutes later singing a george formby song!
