@TheChippyRick TheAC30 and AC15 both have master volume controls so the tube portion of the drive is still there at any volume but the characteristics are not the same as the speaker or speakers do not respond the same way at lower volumes. IMO the master volume control robs much of the true tone of the amp when you are backing it off too much. This is another reason I like the AC15 so much more. You can get that full-tilt chime at a lower volume, which by the way is still pretty loud!
@goldenhopper I get what you're saying. I'm thinking about changing from a Fender Hot Rod Deville...which is 60 watts all tube. I don't think I can sacrifice that much volume. (even though I honestly never crank it past 4.)
When you say rob the tone, how much of a difference is it when you're not opening the speakers up?
@TheChippyRick It's not the end of the world to back off the volume a bit, but I'm picky about getting the right tone. Is your Deville a 2x12 or 4x10? IMO the AC30 is just as loud as the Deville if not louder. I have a Blues Deville 4x10 that I use very little because I never need the volume, but won't sell it because the clean tones sound great at any volume (same is true for the AC30). If you end up getting an AC30 buy it standard and add English Alnico blues they're better than the Chinese.
@goldenhopper It's a 2x12. Yea the cleans sound great. But aren't as clear, due to the Eminence speaker. I'm extremely tight on cash so I'm going to have to jack the price of my amp up a little to barely meet the cost. I like the Blue Alnico's. I tried them out at a local GC, but I don't think you can go wrong with C Greenbacks.
I've got a classic player baja as well, so i'm wondering 'do you have any problems with crackling sounds when you don't touch any metal on your guitar? it sounds like a faulty lead, but it's not...get me?
Also, could you tell me what gives some teles, such as yours, that plunky/warm tone on your wound strings?I wonder if that may be in part because of brass saddles and ash.
@spentonmediocrity - regarding your tone question: as you know, tone is the result of many factors. My teles, without brass saddles, achieve that same warm tone and above all it begins with a good pickup (assuming the guitar is not made of balsa wood!). I would focus on that first if you're thinking of jumping into a tele.
(BTW, my pickups are wound by O.C. Duff in NJ; he does great work. If you're looking for a certain tone, contact him and he'll be sure to help out).
spentonmediocrity -- I see now what you're looking for. I've had similar questions over the years, and aside from just the experience of playing guitars with multiple wood combinations, I recently found the Warmoth web page to be helpful. It discusses all the tonal qualities of both standard and exotic woods. It's worth a look!
@geridg -- I'm a lefty too, and unfortunately Fender, like Gibson and others, has recently cast aside many lefty models. This guitar (player classic) is not available lefty. I highly suggest you look into equal or better products from G&L or Bill Lawrence (Swampkaster), etc. Personally, I have built mine through Warmoth and they are far superior to anything Fender could put together, and for less money.
I suggest you search for "Adirondack Guitar Store" to get a sense of available lefties.
hey man, the stock v22 sounds and feels quite impressive, and i am thinking of buying another, it realy is that good.
The "feel" is all that one would expect with a tube amp, awesome dynamics, but, the clean sound is where the amp really excels. It is a very full, robust clean tone, nothing boomy or "missing". also, the clean channel takes pedals quite well.
hat is to say, compared to the dirty channel it is more impressive, but the dirty channel is quite rich by itself. very "voxy" "matchless" type gain. great with a boost or overdrive in front.
with a speaker swap, tube replacement and bias, the v22= just an awesome amp.

What the hell are you talking about. Tube rattle is not reverb. It's either the result of defective tubes, or a loose tube socket. Reverb is something different altogether. K?
What the hell are YOU talking about? I HAVE this amp but then again, what do i know right? I know that this amp has a built in Tremelo and I or anyone who owns it can get that EXACT sound using it. K?
there is really no other way to get this magic sound. I guess it will be a AC 30 cc2
You get wonderful sounds out of it.Nice playing ! Can I ask if you use the special settings on the Baja or if your magic sounds can be made by any good ordinary Tele ? Now I use a Standard Mex Tele. I wonder if similiar sounds will come from that one too on an AC 30. Anybody ? And : do you have to turn the volume up to ear-damage level to get these good sounds ?
@reskaped Actually smart move man. Unless you play really big shows the AC30 is overkill. Almost unplayable and really high levels. The AC15 is perfect IMO. I wouldn't mind getting an AC4 little mini stack though just for fun.
Haha sorry dude. Just most people who ask those questions are usually just posers. I get what youre saying though about vox and stuff. Great amps those fender, i thought the deville was a 4x10 though?

Such a great amp, but too loud for anything under a mid sized gig. AC15 with an Alnico Blue is far more useful and a much better studio amp.

@goldenhopper Is the difference in gain that noticeable between a cranked ac30 and one played at small gig volume?

Even flat sawn vs quarter sawn affects tone, the latter tends to be brighter.
Acoustically some body/neck/bridge combinations just sound plunky and warm while others don't.I want sustain and warmth.

Thanks.
I know what you're saying about pickups(alnico 2 vs 5 vs ceramic vs formvar vs enamel, etc).
I am referring to the effect of with ash on tone.
The warm you get from wood/hardware is different from pickup warmth...can be similar at times though.
Some guitars sound warm and pluncky unplugged while others are sharp and bright...I want the former.
Thanks.
