Mick Avery was kicked out of the band by Dave during the recording of this album (Word Of Mouth) and is not on this song. I always thought Ray was paying homage to his friend Mick by having him in this video and using subtleties like playing the drums himself in the video etc...
Dave and Mick have long since patched their differences.
I love the look Ray gives at 0:15- 0:17 as it kicks in.
Also clever parody of the intro and outro of the song "A Hard Day's Night ".
This song and clip is so awesome - it's a shame their popularity was just starting to wane compared to their golden comeback years 1978-83. Long live The Kinks!!

@ibrahimtamerm - Absolutely agree, and I'm a Yank! Just listen to just about any song on The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society, or Something Else by the Kinks. I learned more about British life and society listening to Ray Davies than I ever learned in the classroom. Imho, even though I like the Beatles, they were "commercial", whereas the Kinks (esp. Ray) made music that was true.
@zitlight73 I don't know what happened to my records. Mom probably hucked them. I really didn't take good care of them anyway. Cassettes were the thing then anyway. I only bought what I really, really liked cuz being pretty young I had no cash. Good memories. Cheers!
This is a song that remains with me from my childhood wathcing Capt. Kangaroo. They showed this video and Men w/o Hats constantly. Still holds a place in my heart today. Thanks Cap'n

I used to wonder how come so many songs written by Ray Davies made me feel like he had been secretly spying on me. And that I was the inspiration for that particular composition. And now as I look back on the past rediscovering and researching some of my history it becomes clear to me that a message is being sent out to me personally. Yet again.
