  • Note, BTW, that 2 years after this happened, we managed to find a new fin assembly and actually reassemble the rocket and it has flown again successfully!

  • That's not a CATO. That is an improperly built rocket. Motor needed an engine block, or friction fit. Otherwise, it just traveled right through the rocket body.

  • @Azoghlin You're wrong. The engine block was in correctly and positive motor retention was in use. The motor suffered from too much temperature cycling. The part you see shooting out of the rocket isn't the casing. That dropped to the ground (out the side of the rocket!). What you see is the slug of black powder burning at a very high rate of speed because of cracks in it caused by temperature cycling (i.e. it had been carried to hot and cold fields, the back home too many times).
