@fmassaretto That is just the standard labeling on an 800. You can't really see the 'High' since the cabinet cuts it off. On a standard 800 the high input has 3 gain stages and the low input bypasses the first stage (2 gain stages). In this amp I got rid of the low input and use that as the footswitch jack for the channel switching.
@fmassaretto Thanks! This is a standard Marshall 1960A 4x12 with the stock Celestion G12T-75 speakers. I have since swapped out the speakers in favor of some green back clones . . . an improvement for sure.
@dsdjb Hey man, love the amp but even more I love what you have done with it. Did they offer the mods and the schematics at ceriatone or where did you get them and was it difficult to mod? I am pretty comfortable digging around in amps and am pretty good at soldering, I have never bought an amp I didn't improve the sound just from resoldering the joints. Just wandering, it doesn't seem to my mind to be too dificult as its really just disconnecting the low input and wiring it to a switch correct?
@willeng84 This was a mod that I came up with. I think Nik is offering his own version of this concept now. What I did was had Nik make a custom chassis with an extra set of gain/mv controls. I then used a 4PDT relay to switch the input and output of each knob. I did disconnect the low input and used that jack for the footswitch to trigger the relay.

@and1424 I'm not really changing between HI and LOW inputs. There is a bit of a pop when you first turn it on between the 2 channels. After a few switches, it's basically silent. I gig it regularly and have no issues with pops. I don't have a schematic, sorry.
@CRANKYONE100 I think Nik's Plexi Brown Mk2 100 is supposed to be a replica of that amp. You'd have to crank it to WWIII volumes or use an attenuator though. Ask Nik via email and see what he says. He's very good about responding quick.
Gone shootin' yeah man, think sinking some dough into one of these Ceriatone clones is the way to go. Hand wired Marshalls are a little too rich for me but if this company has the "unattainable tone goods"....aahhh why not have it?
Hey sounds awsome. I want to do the same thing to mine. I'm having a hard time finding specific info for this online. Could you maybe share some helpful info on installing a second pre vol and MV on these amps?
Where in the circuit? I use a relay to split/join the signal going into each volume knob for optimum signal isolation. I'm not aware of anyone who is offering this specific mod. You can send me a message and we can discuss offline, I may be able to do it on your amp for you.
Thanks! I'm using a Marshall 1960A cabinet (2002) with the stock G12T-75 speakers in this clip. I'm not a big fan of those speakers and have since replaced them with Weber Greenback clones which I like quite a bit better.
Thanks! PM me and I'll tell you where I got it. For the life of me I can't seem to post the url in this comment section and I've tried a LOT of ways to do it!
Couldn't you have just used the FX loop diagram on Ceriatone's website instead of the pcb kit? I'm just asking. I'm seriously looking into getting one of these amps, but it will need the same mods you performed on your amp.
I could have used that diagram, but that is an un-buffered, passive loop. That equals TONE LOSS. The kit that I used includes an input and output buffer so that the loop is much more transparent.
Nope, I'm switching a relay inside the head. So the low input jack is the footswitch jack for the relay. Inside the footswitch box, there is just a simple switch that connects the tip of the cord to the sleeve. So tip to sleeve (aka ground) activates the relay for the clean channel and disconnecting tip to ground turns the relay off and activates the dirty channel.
im really looking at the ceriatones, jcm 800 2204 or a plexi50. It kinda sounds too good to be true. 840 for such a legendary amp? i am wary to order something like this off this company. Has anybody delt with them, have some knowledge on the company, or had problems with them? thx a ton
Check out the Harmony Central reviews or so a search on the gear page, you'll generally find great reviews everywhere. The only potential issue is lead times can get long due to the popularity!
Sounds great, how did you do the mod for the extra preamp and master controls and the foot switch. I am really interested in putting together one of these kits.
I used an OMRON relay to split the signal going into each gain/volume control. Nik @ Ceriatone is actually thinking about offering this mod that I did as an option on the kit . . . stay tuned!
Why sensitive and low input?

How did you make it channel switchable, did you put relays in?

@Strateuphoria. Yeah, I put in a 4PDT relay and switch both the input and output of the gain and MV controls.

Did your mods significantly change the stock tone?
Also, how does this thing sound at bedroom volumes? I'm really considering this amp to use as both a gigging amp and a bedroom amp.
rockfreak611 2 years ago
In this clip the stock tone was degraded a bit. My latest clip updated the circuit so that there is no signal degradation at all.
In general, bedroom tones aren't that great on these amps. Anything below 2 on the MV is thin and fizzy . . . and 2 is LOUD :-)

thanks for the info.
