Atheists have meetings like this because of the inordinate amount of power that religions (and other types of irrationality) are being afforded in society. Because evolution is a fact, it means there was no Adam and Eve. No Adam and Eve means there was no forbidden fruit. No forbidden fruit means there was no original sin. Since there was no original sin, there is no need for the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. No Jesus no Christ. No Christ no dogma. No dogma no religion. No religion no Christianity.

I was reared Roman-Catholic, and I was alway taught that God used the Big Bang to create the universe, and that the six "days" of creation actually meant six stages.
And that God used Natural-Selection to create all species on Earth, and that "Adam and Eve" were (wait for it) the first hominids to achieve sentience.

@ResistIslamToday Is it possible to respect someone that deny fact and evidence but believe in crazy and insane fairy tails that can't be proven at all in best case, or are already proven wrong. NO, it's plain silly, but that is not the problem, it's dangerous. As a group you learn to hate them why don't have your faith, and you will not vote on them for example. Some religions are harmless, they don't tell others they are shit that will burn in hell, and bullshit like that.

Since you are probably a Christian, you can't see that it's even more dangerous development on that side.
Just look at Texas where education is ruled by idiots like Perry, creationists that think the earth is 6000 years old. They are grouping as a cult, and while hating Islam, they hate all Muslims, and also all atheists.
We do argue with Islamists, I Islam evil, but Christianity insane. Don't fight humans.

Since you live in USA, all media is owned by Christians and it's very bios everything you see there.
And of course Christians use Internet more, it's even restriction in some Muslim countries so they can't attack every YT video that has something about science.
The denial of science is really dangerous, we already laugh at the madness in Texas, but are very worried about it.

If you were in a country where most people are Muslim, you'd see the opposite ratio. We tend to point out flaws in Christianity more often, in the West, because it's those flaws that are thrust at us most often. It doesn't mean we don't criticise Islam, it means that Islam is very much less often thrown in our faces - again, purely as a consequence of location.

You are wrong when you say we atheists ONLY have a battle with Christians, I have about 60-40 if I check my personal messages. Arguing with believers is not easy, to much of it can make anyone tired. Religions is about fear, and I see Islam as evil, but Christianity more Insane and dangerous for the world (long term). Check the user patcondell for example.

Firstly I think you mean "life itself" not "like itself" and although we may not know precise answers to those questions that does not mean that what we do know isn't valid. Furthermore we do have some very compelling theories concerning these things you mentioned. Atheists have meetings like this because of the inordinate amount of power that religions (and other types of irrationality) are being afforded in society. Through organizing, they hope to shift the zeitgeist against religion and towards a more rational society. That hardly makes it a religion, which is fundamentally irrational and dogmatic.

We atheists are 'reality wannabes'. AND......we'd like the rest of the world to join us. AND.....the best way to do that is to assemble ourselves together to exchange ideas on how to best accomplish this goal. I guess we could adapt religous concepts in decieving the general public, but then again, that would go against our primary goal of 'reality wannabe-ness'.

This is the oldest fallacy in the book. You can't prove that their isn't a tiny teapot orbiting the earth right now, that doesn't mean it's a good idea to believe there is one. The burden of proof is always on the person making the claim. Christians cannot prove the truth of their doctrines, otherwise it wouldn't require "faith" to believe in it. Citing the bible to prove the truth of Christianity is the definition of a circular argument. I dare say religion is for fools.

People say they git there morality from the bible, if you read the bible it's not a very moral book. The spirituality is based on fear and obey. Them there is how people express themselfs, every generation is alittle different, compound that over thousands of years & add some crappy translations into other langueges, it eventually turns to jibberish, no knows what the hell the ancients were talking about.The bible is out dated.

When atheists have things like Jesus camp for atheist kids, they try to ban the civil rights of others like the religious do with same-sex marriage, or let their kids die for their beliefs rather than take them to the hospital, then you can start talking about atheists being dogmatic.
