'screen' is great but its command key ctrl-a interferes with its use to move the cursor to the beginning of the line in the shell and in many text editors. I configure it to use ctrl-z instead by putting this line in .screenrc in my home directory: escape ^Zz

Tab completion doesn't work on my machines, instead I press ctrl-r then start typing a snippet of the command I'm looking for. When the shell presents the correct command I press enter. Or press ctrl-r to see older commands that match.
