It sucks that in this game you don't get to control any one of your characters however you want. If this had ff 12's gameplay, but revamped or something then ff 13 would've been one of the all time rpg's of this generation. Who would want an rpg or any game with automatic or semi-auto characters by default? I agree that this game could've gotten more towns and a fair amount of humor. At least the plot is fine in comparison to ff 12, which I found kinda predicable.
@RapturousxPoet It didn't seem much like Chrono Cross when I played it..... the class's are a good idea but the combat was simply to slow for me..... and due to the growing difficulty skipping enemies isn't wise... in fact at one point I found grinding pretty necessary.... It wasn't my thing but I do respect the game and think it was well made.... some people loved it and I can't say it's bad myself... I would try it out if I were you
@uglypinkmoose I have to say: the only reason why you probably thought the battles were slow is because you used auto-battle. Big mistake. The game is much more fun w/o using auto battle. With abilities you need to think fast, and if you need to repeat a command you simply press the repeat button (look in the manual to know how to use repeat). And I'm guessing you didn't know about the triangle button shortening attacks or that you can move the camera around in battle?
@yoyoyo88665 sigh... as I said I'm talking about "5 star battles" thats wonderful if you like the game don't get all butthurt that I don't find it has wonderful(it's totally obvious by your tone) and I was putting my own commands in for the first 7 hours of the game when I realized it hardly did shit...few types of enemies it helped but not much...and honest no I didn't know about the triangle button...but I did know about repeating commands and how to rotate the camera I'm not a dumb ass
@uglypinkmoose hmm, well I do admit it's not THAT useful early in the game but as it goes on it really does help out a lot more and it brings a lot more excitement and tension to the really long battles later in the game. Just my opinion :p shame you didn't like the battles, I thought they were FAR better than any other FF game.
Haha. I was watching my friend play this a long time ago, and one thing i said was " My god, it sure does seem to take a hell of a long time to kill regular enemies"I just didn't like how long the battles take. That is, unless, you can uhh....Topple them? Get them off balance? Whatever the hell that was called. All in all, this was just another FF that i didn't pick up. I only picked up 12 because, shit, its an FF! 12 ruined me on the series, though. Sad really.
@Metafron same here...12 blew it... I have lost all faith... I think this was a well made game.... but it's not the FF I grew to love so it leaves a very lame feeling in my chest
@uglypinkmoose I agree. Things that made the FF series popular: Great story, great characters, lots of extra bosses to fight/things to find, etc, By the way, you ever played Xenogears? It was made by Squaresoft for the ps1. Dunno if it's your style or not, but i'd highly recomend it to anyone who is a fan of old school Squaresoft's RPG's.
@Metafron I haven't but I was watching some gameplay the other day and I love how the characters look.... it's like that 2D rotating image deal but more crisp...no outlines... perhaps I'll pic it up sometime
@uglypinkmoose Perhaps? Perhaps my ass! You HAVE to pick this game up. It's Squaresoft, man, you can't go wrong. The characters are well done, the story is awesome, the look and feel of it is also just as good. Plus, some great music.
@uglypinkmoose Im suprised you never played it before. My whole life was squaresoft for years. Until x-2 and 12 of course. But that was when Squarenix took over. Blah. Speaking of Enix, you should also try Act Raiser for the snes. Another good game to look into.
@uglypinkmoose My life was gaming, all day, everyday. Sad to say, but thats the way it was for me. lol. I used to enjoy all games of all genres. Then i pretty much just ended up playing nothing but RPGS. I do enjoy other genres of games as well. But not many. Like fighting for instance, i love the soul calibur series. Rival Schools i liked as well. I need to make a list of RPGS for you to try out. You may finish it in about a year. Haha.
@Metafron I was always gaming as well but what I got to play was very random....from Harvest moon to Vigilante 8... I didn't really get into JRPG's in till my buddy showed me FF8 which was pretty late...and even then I was poor so my games were limited....normally I got to play what my mom or dad would bring home and give me... I mean...they were surprisingly good judges on what games were good...but at the same time certain things appealed to them and JRPG's prolly went over their heads
@uglypinkmoose Yea, my choice was limited also, but when i was younger i always would rent games, never buy them. If i did get a game it was becauase it was my birthday or x-mas and it was because i had asked for the game from playing it as a rental. I lived off of rentals for years. lol. Oh, and i had like, 3 seperate subscriptions to gaming magazines, so i could keep on top of things. PSM, Electronic Gaming Monthly, and PSX Magazine. It included demos. =D.
@Metafron lol I was the same way...though I was a big Nintendo kid(although I owned other stuff as well) so I only had Nintendo magazine...and I rented stuff all the time...it was a blast in the SNES days renting games....stuff was still original and surprising back then...it was pretty sweet ;P
How were the characters this time round? I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy (as far are RPGs go it's just a bit too over the top for me. E.g.I didn't see the point of the Job system in past games) but I'm curious nevertheless.* If you've ever watched Zero Punctuation his review pretty much summed everything wrong or rather every doubt I had with the game. What's your opinion?
*Hell, I even tried a spin-off, the Crystal Bearers on Wii and that was boring as hell.
@bellboy64 I actually enjoyed crystal bearers and have a review for it ;D
the only character I liked in this game was Lightning....the rest I either didn't care about or was annoyed by.... zero punctuation is great but I don't think you should take it seriously.....it's more of a comical review than an honest one...he bash's as much as possible
Guess it just depends on who you are. While I may not have played a lot of Final Fantasy there are a lot trends that seem to bleed through no matter what. The die-hard fans love them unconditionally but it just comes off as pretty soulless to me.
I.e. Pretty presentation with no real heart.*
*And no. FFVII is NOT an argument in it's favour. You won't win me over with that over-hyped trash.
@bellboy64 I thought FF 8 and 9 were much better than 7...though I do think 7 is good...FF13 is something I will most likely not play all the way through again...was very mediocre aside from it's presentation... 12 was pretty much crap... I am most definitely not a soulless fan
Final Fantasy 12 didn't have random encounter either just to let you know, but i do agree with alot of the things you said like how cheesy it was or that there was no comic relief i didn't have a problem with the battle system even though you do basically nothing um i hated the story even though i understood it i just didn't see how it led up to the final boss in any way their reasons for fighting him were stupid
@kyo1546 ya I have 12 and I'm aware of that....just didn't think it was a big deal to be mega accurate on that part ;P
I like the idea of the story... but in a way everything is kind of completely pointless...I do the think the Fal-cie are a neat idea though....cacoon floating over the real world is cool to though it has been done before
@uglypinkmoose lol yeah i can understand why mentioning 12 wasn't that important i didn't like that one that much, but yeah the basic idea was a good one over bearing Fal-cie that cursed humans and what not i really didn't understand how the hell Cocoon got above Pulse but i guess that wasn't important i just wish they thought through what they wanted to do with the plot more closely like the flashbacks were pointless, the Hope sub plot was pointless as well it just seemed unorganized
@kyo1546 me either... the characters in 12 were boring as all hell for the most part... and I wasn't a huge fan of the combat....seemed to much like an mmo for a single player game... I'm not into that..
in 13 it seemed like you went all over the place for no reason

@sephigi I enjoyed the plot.... but as you said.... lame battle system and lack of humor... just turned out kinda tedious
uglypinkmoose 9 months ago
looks good the battles apart from switching paradigms it also looks abit like the element system in chrono cross is it anything like that?
& Does the amount of enemies ruin overall enjoyment of the game ?
as you said there are way too many
