  • I love helping people and I was considering donating marrow, but when I got hospitalized and had a bunch of test run on me, I haven't been fond of needles anymore. Watching this made my eyes tear up. my pain tolerance is pretty good, but when they are poking the same spot over and over again it reminds me of the pain I went through myself.. My arms were bruised for days and sore. Ugh, now I have some thinking to do. mmmmm

  • As for the regenerative medicine with the marrow self-administration from culture increase multiplies after bone marrow transplant, is epoch-making for the existence of own from the root; might be changed radically.

  • I work as all the matters that want to do in this reality world. Therefore was born; live, and there is. I save father too.

  • i got one yesterday...it was my 7th time...kinda get used to it already.. :)

  • @zufarking93

    Hi zufarking,

Wow - 7 times, that's a lot... I'm sorry you've had to had them so often, that doesn't sound fun. May I ask why you have had to receive so many? Wishing you all the best.

  • hey :

    thnx for uploading this video

i have question about final steps in this procedure

    didn't require any stitches ???

    best rgrds,

  • @malik201146

    Hi Malik,

Thanks for the comment - in response to your question, the procedure doesn't require stitches.

  • Had four of these now along with a Hickman line removal, latest results showing in remission hope it stays that way, good luck to you and hope all goes well with your treatment

  • I had this done this morning. Honestly, it wasn't that bad for me. They numb your skin and the outside of the bone and none of that hurts. They can't numb the inside of the bone, so it does hurt a little bit when they're extracting the marrow, but it's really quick. It feels more weird than anything. I just took a deep breath, gritted my teeth, and it was over before I knew it. Good luck to anyone else who is having this done!

  • i almost wanted to cry for her

  • @aryadoroudian i cried.. ..and im a guy D':

  • I may be getting this done after some blood work comes back...I have had elevated wbcs for the past fourth months and they are not sure of whats going on. Thanks for sharing this!

  • Complete bone marrow transplantation culture increase self-administration regenerative medicine!

    完全骨髄移植培養増殖自己投与再生医療!!

  • And I think she might have chosen a movie other than one about Nazi conentration camps to talk about during a potentially very painful medical procedure! This video really helped me to better appreciate my oncologist. She is very human - very warm, laughs easily and is not afraid to reassuringly touch or even hug her patients. Unfortunately she's moving to new Zealand in a couple of months, but I feel really blessed to have had her since my diagnosis of a rare blood disorder four years ago.

  • @professorprestodigit Hi Professor Prestodigit,

Thanks for your comment. I admit the choice of film is a little ironic, but really we were just discussing a film she most recently saw. I really didn't mind. It's too bad that your oncologist is moving - it sounds like you are in great care, and hopefully she will refer you to another warm, excellent physician.

  • あの時から何もかも完全部分やり直す。

From bone marrow transplantation to regenerative medicine is the very much best policy in the reality world. You should be able to absolutely do it. I start all perfection part again from then.

  • :/ I'm 16 and I believe this what I'm having done to me in about 3 weeks time. And all this painful comments and the video doesn't help me get rid of my nerves D:

  • @Rileyix I'm rooting for u that the bone marrow biopsy, if that is what ur having, will be as quick/ painless as possible. Do u know why they're doing it? My goal is not to scare anyone; rather, it is to educate and inform. From a patient perspective, it's hard to see what's going on when lying flat on the stomach, so I thought the video would assist. frm a doc perspective, I hope it will educational and perhaps a way for new doctors to continue to develop compassion.

  • @bulldogtheory I'm not sure why I'm having the bone marrow biopsy as far as I know its something to do with genetics to see if I have inherited some sort of condition (not sure what the condition is). But I can see that I can be educational as I actually thought taking bone marrow seemed rather strange and I was trying to think how they could take bone marrow I often thought of doctors cutting limbs off so comparing it to that this doesn't look too painful

  • @Rileyix Thanks Riley for following up.

  • @Rileyix Having just come home from my 3rd BMB I'd like to throw in my two proverbial cents. This girl may have a lower pain tolerance or a different reaction to the anaesthetic than I do, but mine haven't been too bad. And actually, I'm not sure of this doc's technique. Mine today asked about the pain and gave me a second shot after the first one; in obvious distress, this girl says that another doc kept asking her about the pain, but even with that clue this one just keeps right on drilling.

  • I had this done last week and it was the most painful thing I have ever gone through

  • @ziba222 Hi ziba222,

I'm sorry that it was such an awful experience - what did you have the bmb for?

  • @ziba222- My doc at MSK is painless. I've had 4 so far, one at LIJ, 3 at MSK in NY. My current doc's theory is that you shouldn't feel anything but a little pressure.

At LIJ it took a lightweight hemotologist (<135 pounds) 10 minutes and an assistant to get it done- not my cup of tea.

Today (a few hours ago), he went for 2 aspirations and a biopsy- didn't feel a thing (except the lidocaine from the nurse.)

  • im 17 and have been going thru chemotherypy for the last 3 years for luekemia. ive had several bone marrows, luckily i get anesthesia. props to her for doin it under local numbing.

  • @t93093 Hi t9303,

I am sorry that you've been going through such a tough time, especially while still a teenager. You have a knowledge beyond your years of things that no one should ever have to experience. I'm glad that you have been getting anaesthesia for your bmbs, and I hope that your treatment ends soon, that you recover quickly and that you live a long, happy life that going forward will be cancer free.

  • Oh man this video put me in a state of horror. Very strong of you to go through with it with minimal reaction.

I would have punched the nurse and ran out of there!

OR demand they shot me up with a cocktail of opioids and sedatives!

  • ARGH!!!!!!!

FEELING SICK ALREADY. DONT WANT TO WATCH IT

    GETTING THIS TOMORROW

  • @Laturisen Hi Laturisen,

Ugh, I'm sorry that you had to experience this. What was the reason for the bmb?

  • Some doctors give their patients meds before this procedure so they feel less pain (including a mix of opium and other substances) in my case I had a NICE GLASS OF WATER! and a lot of "FUUUUCK! FUCK FUCK!" helping me out aha! But in the end it is worth it, you need to know what is going on in your body.

  • @aMUSEdxxXx Hi aMUSEd - wow, water and that's it!! (And a lot of swearing - understandable!!)

  • I had it done last year and have to admit, though it was very well done and a lot faster then here it did hurt.I am not very sensitive to pain but it still had a pretty respectful effect of me! Especially the weeks after, laying down and sleeping was very troublesome. Then again i am not a doctor but have been told that the first injection needs a bit of time to do its job but it will only numb your skin tissue not the bone itself... And you HAVE to let it work first!

  • Thank 4 the video my Bone marrow Biopsy is almost here kind of painfull

  • @MsBabygirl0924 IT DOES IS IVE GOTTEN ONE ND IT HURTS LIKE HELL IM GOING TO GET ANOTHER ONE ON THIS WEDNESDAY ND IT HURTS MORE THE MORE TIMES THEY DO IT CUS U KNOE WUTT TO EXPECT SPECIALLY THE IT CHEMO WHICH IS INSERTED THROUGH THE BACK ALMOST THE SAME WAY

  • To the people that commented about sedation not being an option. If your doctor or cancer center does not offer anesthia then maybe you need to change doctors? Just a thought... but I understand if you dont want to change doctors especially since it has taken me 10+ years of having this blood disorder before they would even do one, so I was willing to do it even without sedation if it meant it would help get a solution that would improve my quality of life to any reasonable level of functioning.

  • @hjpaden Hi hjpaden, Thanks for your comment - you suggested that people whose doctors or centers don't offer anesthesia could switch doctors. As you mention, this just isn't a realistic option for most patients, and I'm not sure it would even justify switching unless care as a whole, all things considered, is not at par with other doctors and centres. That being said, I totally, totally think that centres should offer some form of anesthesia for bmbs.

  • You are right, it is not always an option. Every situation is different. My thinking was that some people dont even know that sedation could be an option. (I didnt know) So I had put off getting it done because I had been repeatdly told how horrible the procedure was but when I went to a new doctor that did offer sedation it helped me to decide to finally get it done. In general, people should not be afraid to ask questions, or to get a second opinion when possible.

  • @bulldogtheory I had ALL when I was 4, and I recall one bone marrow biopsy where the nurses and doctors forgot to give me any sort of anaesthetic. It was the most painful experience of my life.

  • @LiveTalkNow I can't believe that they forgot to give you anaesthetic - that's awful! I'm so sorry that your 4 year old self had to go through this.

  • God Bless you dear! I am going to get one done tomorrow. They said they always use anesthia "now days". It seems so cruel to not sedate someone for that procedure. If you ever need to do that again you should insist they use anesthia! I consider myself to have a very high level of pain tolerance but there is no way I could handle that type of deep bone pain, especially as well as you did! You did so amazingly well with the pain... again, God Bless you!

  • @hjpaden Hi hjpaden, Good luck with the procedure tomorrow.

  • Mine went pretty well... very nice people. Im in more pain today than I was the day of the procedure... only a bit achy today, no big deal at all.... Thank you for your concern. Its the wait for the results that are more painful... :) If I had know sedation was an option i would have done it a lot sooner... I understand and agree changing docs isnt always an option... and some of the more experienced older docs can be set in there ways or for medical reasons its better to not sedate..

  • I won't have them anymore no matter what. If they'd put me to sleep, fine, but they just don't/won't offer that option. Call me gutless but I start screaming 5 mins before it happens. I have had so much anastetic and pain killers that it does little for me and I can't stand the pain anymore so I take my chances. I've had every kind of pain one can imagine from kidney stones to lumbar punctures but bmbs I just can't handle.

  • Just had one done this morning... I'm sorry and I feel your pain. You took it like a champ! I'm 27 years old and I scream like a baby... I cant believe they had to go in twice (that sucks)

  • @stutchsh Hi stutchsh,

It sucks to hear that you had a bmb - but glad to hear that it's done and over with. Thanks for the comment!

  • @stutchsh why isnt there anasthetic applied, there is anasthetic for virtually everything....

  • @newmedstudent I'm sure you could ask to use it, but it would take longer and cost more. I guess its up to the hospital.

  • my moms going in for one shes scared any words of advice

  • 1st, for your mom to ask if she could be put to sleep during the procedure. If the hospital doesn't offer this option, then she'll have to go with local anaesthetic, and my advice would be to take something in advance to make her feel more relaxed, like ativan and percocet (she should of course consult her doctor first, but that is the combo I took). Finally, her mindset might be one of "this too shall pass". The whole thing sucks, but she'll get through it. Hope it goes as smoothly as possible.

  • Getting a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow :(

  • @deshia87 Hi Deshia,

Wishing you could luck, hope that it goes smoothly and that you are well.

  • This video is a little disturbing, but I truly hope you are getting all the care and help you deserve. I recently donated (Stem Cells) myself and wish there was a higher awareness as to how people can and should help. I wish you, and everyone diagnosed with similar conditions, THE VERY BEST.

  • @Harvey6711 Hi Harvey,

Thanks for your well wishes, and for donating stem cells. That's so amazing of you.

  • I had a bone marrow biopsy done on February 18th. Had bloodwork done that day and found my white cell count was 245,000. I was put in the hospital that day, diagnosed with Leukemia and had a BMP done an hour later. It hurt but my doctor was great and got it done quick. Found out I had Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and I've been living with my diagnosis for 3 weeks now, at 26 years old.

I had it performed, but didn't know it looked like this.

  • @jlssmith7 Hi jlssmith,

I'm sorry about what you've been through, it sounds like a whirlind. Since it has only been 3 weeks you might still feel in shock. It's not something you expect, especially when you're that young. I was thirty when I was diagnosed, and I think I'm still in shock today (a few years later). I found that it really helped to join a support group for young people with cancer. Stay strong.

  • I had this exact same procedure done, and it hurt soooooo much! ;( Later I spoke to another friend of mine, she goes to MD Anderson Cancer center in Texas and they knock her out for this test! That is their standard protocol! To put the patient to sleep first and then have a machine do the test, not a human. I don't understand why that is not the normal protocol for this test?

  • @octoberfire13 Hi October fire,

I think it's great that they put her to sleep for the test - but having a machine do it? To be honest, I have never heard of this before. Interesting!!

  • I had a bone marrow biopsy with no twilight drugs. All he did was use a few shots of Lidocaine in my spine, and it was the biopsy that found lymphoma in my bone marrow (._.)

  • @tomtheshaman Hi Tom,

I'm sorry that they found lymphoma in your marrow. How are you doing? Are you still in treatment?

  • @bulldogtheory I Have to go to Seattle to get a bone marrow transplant. :(

  • @tomtheshaman Hi Tom,

Good luck, I hope that it goes as quickly as possible. Why are they giving you the bone marrow transplant?

  • @bulldogtheory so my bone marrow rejects the malignancy.

  • Thank you fro this video. I am getting ready to have it done and I am scared to death this is easing my mind some.

  • Join Now!

  • hope you will never have to go such a thing ever again

  • @ratatulsuprem1 Hi ratatul,

Thanks very much for the comment. I very, very much hope so too.

  • Correction a general anesthetic

  • Why can't they do some form of a local anesthetic!!!

  • I found this very interesting thanks, and i hope all is well <3

  • I really want to donate bone marrow and I was looking for something like this. So happy that yu are doing well!

  • Wow... this was amazing.

  • Thank you for this video, i just had mine done 2 days ago, and now im on remission for almost one year

  • @unclejay781 Uncle Jay, Thanks for the note. Congrats on being in remission for more than one year. Hoping very much that you are forever in remission.

  • Charlie Bartlett was a great movie o_O

  • You are a brave woman and I commend you for sharing the experience with us all! It truly puts my life into proper perspective!

  • @cloudnyne79 Hi Cloudnyne, Thanks very much for the feedback.

  • i hope this test was absolutely necessary because it looks extremely painful. i hope the patient is doing great now.

  • I'm in the uk and have just had my 8th biopsy, with two more still to come. It's done differently but you get used to it. Different doctors hurt different amounts I found. Some are great, some are painful, but I just see them as potential good news now I've had a transplant, so in a weird way, I look forward to them.

  • Thank You 4 posting this. I have gone through a few of these, first time was 1980. The courage to undergo such a procedure is one thing, to also DOCUMENT the ordeal and share it on the interweb is another level of bravery altogether [ I could never do it myself...the conversations Ive had with the Drs./ Nps doing and/or assisting the procedure would deem an "18+ warning" most likely :-) ] Congratulations on your bravery & health and happy belated 2 year birthday. Cheers!

  • @VITATRE Hi Vitatre,

Thanks so much for your kind words and for the birthday wishes!

  • @VITATRE I know the feeling. Just had mine done last week. Ouch.

  • i had mine a couple of hours ago but i was under general anesthetic. doesnt hurt at all !

  • thanks for posting this video,, i never thought of this before,, now i am considering

  • @fpeoples69 Hi fpeoples, I hope the procedure is as quick and painless as possible. Wishin you good health

  • Had this done 5 days ago , its done a little different in England where i live. You lay on your side and draw you knees up into a sitting position. Worst part was the waiting for it to be done. Dont get me wrong, it was no walk in the park . But it was more uncomfortable than painfull, so please, if you are having it done Dont stress yourself, it dont help. By the way, i cant watch the video.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. My grandfather is going in for this procedure tomorrow. Hopefully now we'll know what's going on with him. I'm glad you're doing well now. Wishes for you on a healthy future.

  • @bksommer2000 Thanks for the comment. I hope the procedure is as quick and painless as possible for your grandfather. Wishing him good health.

  • If you are going to undergo this procedure, you should take time to learn about the Ranfac SNARECOIL Biopsy Needle. All that twisting and turning isn't necesarry, which means less pain for the patient. The technology in it gives the pathologists longer and better samples and significantly decreases the chance of a repeat biopsy. Learn more at ranfac.com or search SNARECOIL Bone Marrow Biopsy Needle for a youtube video of testimonials.

  • I've had one already.... thought I could watch this... but nope. So do not wanna see what they use..... It wasn't that bad but I don't want my feelings to change if I see the instruments. You know? idk Good Luck to all who have to go threw this. We will be strong and say FUCK OFF CANCER!! ok sorry later~~~~

  • I had this procedure done recently too. They first do a butt massage, which can tickle like crazy, which they do to find a good place to drill. Then comes the Lidocain injection, which to me, was the most painful part of the procedure. As they give you this injection, it feels like a bee sting that begins at the surface, and slowly that bee keeps stinging you until that bee gets to your bone. Then come the drilling, which more or less you feel nothing but pressure.

  • This looks really painful! D:

  • I had this done last year when I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This video was SO IMPORTANT before I went for mine. It's the reality of the procedure. Thank you for doing this.

  • what is this procedure for? like why does it have to be done? ;o

  • Only a woman could do such a complicated procedure and discuss about movies at the same time, wonderful! Say thanx to your corpus callosum!

  • I am having this done 2morrow & am petrified. Will I be in pain after procedure?

This is how the medicine perform in 2010 ?

Where the high tech stuff are ?

Christ ,Got all over cold sweat just by watching this craziness it has to be a better way of collecting samples without lame people operating invasive like a construction workers with a screw driver back in my spinal cord ?

Whats the % of people disable after performing this specific procedure- permanently disable the lower part of the body and gets paralyzed?

  • @filadelfiavip its very un-invasive. and the location of the procedure is no where near the spinal cord, relatively speaking. its on the bumpy part of your hip bone, so little chance of paralysis unless the doctor sneezed while performing during an earth quake. even then, its highly unlikely.

  • OMG i may have to have this done in 2 weeks im freaking out now WTH did i watch this :(

  • OMG I couldn't even finish this video. I had to skip parts lol. This lady is TOUGH!!! I sought this video because I read a little bit about 50 cents and Shannon. I don't think I can do it. I am about to get off the laptop feeling so much more relieved about life.

  • Dear God, this scared me so much.

I just searched for it on youtube because I'm reading a book about a girl who had cancer and she mentioned this. Fuuuuuck...

Why was it so painful, couldn't they give you like a lot of painmedication??? I would never ever go through that, just watching your video gave me massive anxiety.

I hope you are all well ???? xxx

  • u r so brave. God bless u. omg. i'd be shitless

  • YOur amazingly strong! Thank you for sharing this. I dont know how anyone endures anything like this or all the other testing and etc etc that goes along with this. My best wishes and prayers for you!

  • I am having this done next week! Just got diagnosed with cancer. Thanks for the video.

  • Thanks for posting this, I was just diagnosed this week with cancer and have been fearing this since the start of the process. Hopefully I will have mine done with in the next week or so, my third biopsy in two years and the first two were not so bad. I am nervous about the bone marrow biopsy though. I have been reading alot about the procedure.

  • had one again done by the professor himself and nearly painless ! and the results where very good too, complete remission!

  • I want to donate Bone Marrow but I am so scared...

Why can't they put you to sleep or something a lot more people would donate it if it was like giving blood.

  • @RandomDirectors

Because it's such a short procedure and anastesia is very risky. They usually only put someone fully out if the procedure is going to last more than an hour.

  • Do you mean that there is sampling of the bone marrow without pain ???????? But the pain is alleged validity of the process guide

  • I was so freaked out by this video. It scared the heck out of me. I thought I would be reeling from the pain. Just got home from my doctors office. I had a bone marrow biopsy. It didnt hurt at all. I was so scared by this video and I didnt need to be. My doctor is painless. Thanks for the worst and longest week of my life,.

  • @patsorren48

    Hi Pat,

In no way did I mean to scare you! This was just my experience. I am so glad that yours was painless. Wishing you good health.

  • @bulldogtheory besides no1 forced you to watch it. and if you listen you can hear ''i do feel something but its not terrible'' and you cant hear screaming and crying etc.

i think pat worked themself up.. not the video..

thanks for posting it, gives me an idea what to expect soon. :)

  • @patsorren48

Currently in Medical school, doing our block in Haem. As future doctors, we're made well aware of the potential pain involved with the procedure and the warning we should give to patients. It's quite variable and has a lot to do with your body's response to anesthetic, your pain tolerance and the doc's technique, etc...

Remember for some, if not most, it's better to go in expecting the worst only to be pleasantly surprised rather than being traumatized by unexpected pain.

  • @patsorren48 I think she handled it well actually you must have very high level of pain tolerance or something.

  • I would donate anything for nothing in return, just a smile and a thank u is enough.

  • I just went through this on Friday. Fourth one I've done. Jesus, it was horrible.

  • was there anything wrong

  • Had somes onto myself too.No a pleasure but not a deadly thing either.

  • OMG! Nothing ever made me faint. But this lmost did. FFS!

I felt myself allmost pass out. IF i wold continue to watch. I just listen it. =S Coz i was not able to watch it. Coz i didnt want to feint or something. =S Im really so weak?? =O

  • I've done this maybe 30 to 40 times over the past 12 months. Leukemia is awesome!

  • there givng me a bone biopsy because they think i have lupus :( im only 14

  • this is damn.

Why cant they anaestesise the bones?

  • Fuck I could eat a sandwich while I get mine done

  • had 6 already and many will follow, what a relief every time when it's over

  • @kutubu1 Hi Kutubu,

I'm sorry you've had so many - what are they testing for?

  • @bulldogtheory hi, i have multiple myeloma and had the allogenstemcelltransplant so they're testing how many % donorblood i have and if there are tumorcells

  • If 10 was holding your hand in a flame for 10 seconds, one is a small slap on the wrist from your granmother, what would you rate the pain of the worst part of this, and how long does it go on for? I wanna do it becuase i think it is a very good thing to do. It is not entirely altruistic in my case. I would significantly gain from doing it, but at least i am helping other people through my selfishness.

  • I just sent in my swabs,so is this the process of "donating" the marrow?

  • Jesus fucking Christ! They might as well jam a metal straw in there! I hope she's alright. I know absolutely nothing about this procedure or it's purpose. I couldn't bear to watch my girlfriend go through something like this... I'd probably pass out!

  • thanks for sharing this. i just was informed that i have to have my first next week. doesnt look like fun at all, but at least i know what to expect. best of luck to you!!

  • very brave...i must say...i m a doc n i have done many biopsies...so know d trauma it causes.....tk care...n all the best

  • spinal taps hurt bad too :/ i had one for meningitis. :( ouchhh

  • Thank you for posting this. My girlfriend is going through this today and it really helps me to see the process and how you coped with the pain.

I'm glad you're in remission. Stay well.

  • @XENUTV

    Hi Xenutv,

I hope the procedure went as well as possible for your girlfriend. Your support for her is really wonderful.

  • @bulldogtheory She made it through the procedure fine and we are awaiting the results with some fear and a lot of hope.

    Thanks.

  • @bulldogtheory -- are they doing that in your butt cheak?? i see it says your in remission, what for may i ask?

  • I hope all is going well with you. I just had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday. Luckily for me, in Australia we get fully sedated so don't have to feel anything. I think you are very brave to go through it awake!

  • YEAH! Kick that cancer right in the balls!

  • fuck this !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh man you did so great. I refuse to have any more, regardless of what is wrong. I'll only have them if they put me under and since they won't I've said no more. Some handle them better than others. I've had kidney stones, gout, you name it, but it got to a point where I was screaming before they even touched me. You are so brave. God Bless you.

  • i couldn't watch this with sound so i couldn't tell if you was in pain or not. so is it really painful or not? :-/

  • Oh God! My palms are pouring sweat!

  • Comment removed

  • ur brave! :)

  • Happy you had good news. I had one last Tuesday, my 3rd, and it's maximum pain. Keep Looking UP. You are young and strong, You will survive. Hugs from another patient

  • Hi Shasta, thanks so much. Sending hugs.

  • add 2ml of medazolam will be better for both the doctor and patient.

I thought there is a 2 in 1 bone marrow biopsy needle, where only 1 entry is needed. Puncture-> remove biopsy, then the bone marrow will flow itself from the hollow biopsy needle.

  • I got through it :( and i'm an 19 year old girl, the pain was extremely bad but it's amazing how much the human mind and instinct can defend itself by becoming mentaly stronger to fight and go through with the pain. the pain was still bad though:( the actual aspiration part was the worst than the actual insertation of the needle:(

  • Im thinking about marrow donation do you have any advice?

  • Was this for a bone marrow donation?

You're a freakin trooper for sure though.

  • Thanks :-) This wasn't for a bone marrow donation. It was to see if relapsed hodgkin's lymphoma had spread to my bones. It hadn't.

  • are you ok now?

  • yes! remission for almost 2 years!

  • @bulldogtheory God bless you! That's wonderful!

  • awh bless you are really brave. I want to donate marrow, how is this experience like in your description. You look so calm

  • i have to get this done today:(

  • Good luck! Hope it goes well.

  • how did it go?
