  • I think that's the LIE under construction at the beginning of the video.

  • @gtc1961 Yeah it is, just west of exit 71.

  • I worked for Grumman (Bethpage) as a Machinist , in the mid 80's. We built the F-14 outer wings tail surfaces and other potions of the plane in our building. I thought that the plane went down due to F.O.D. (foreign object and debris) in the controls.

  • @machstang70 Too bad its not in Bethpage and Calverton anymore. Id love to hear them roar over my Shoreham house anyday.

  • i think the engine was stalled bc usually when you go down the engine stalls

  • You must be all of ten yrs old and a retarded idiot!

  • age631 i live 10-15 mins away from cavlerton as well as matter in fact i jsut visted cavelerton airpor yestrday its like a ghost town we went onto the airport to and found this old taxi way where they were old alert pads during the cold war i dont what planes were on the pads i tried to find out no luck but it was really cool.

  • It had less problems in the development phase than the F-4, they all have problems in the beginning and they're constantly upgraded.

  • My dad worked at BNL nearby and saw that on his way home...

  • OMG Was this a test? or a run

  • It was the F-14's second ever flight.

A catastrophic hydraulic failure is to blame. Not the pilots'.

Unfortunately, the pilot that survived this crash, was killed in another F-14 protype crash.

  • Wow... somebody's stuck in 1970... LOL

  • Whoops there went another billion

  • less than that, i think there $47 Million

  • is that cherry point?

  • no its the Naval Weapons Plant owned by Grumman in Calverton, NY where it first flew. i lived about 10-15 minutes away.

  • So...Close...Very few polits to pull that off again.

  • Did pilot's die?

  • no they both ejected

u can c the ejection sequence 40 seconds and the parachute deploy at 1.02-1.03

  • One thing.... you dont no weather they did survive or not.. they landed in teh smoke=not good

  • they where Bob Smith and Bill Miller, they sirvived.

  • Just saw this on the history channel. The description of the video is correct. The hydrolic line was leaking and they lost control of the airplane just before landing. Both pilots ejected and survived and continued to test another prototype.

  • from that perspective loks like.. but the suit on one of the pilots was burned but the pilot was without injuries.

  • ok what i meant was it was a very sloppy test because how dangerous it was

  • Test the ejection seats?? Not really... it's because the hydraulics failed and they could not properley land the plane as needed. They were about 1/4th mile from the run way.

  • I wonder if the pilots survived. Does anyone know?

  • i doubt it .if that were the case, they would have ejected over the great south bay, westhampton,or east moriches.

  • You dont have to crash an airplane to test ejector seats. This are zero-zero seats. You just put it on the ground and eject. From zero speed, zero altitude.

  • Comment removed

  • a hydraulics pipe ruptured it losy all the fluid resulting in no control over the aircraft and an expensive bbq

  • Looks like this was about the time they first found out

    about the engine problems.

  • wasn't this the 2nd ever flight of the F-14?

  • i used 2 live 5 mins. from there

  • Rome, NY Air Force Base?
