Your smart, and very pretty, a great catch for any guy. I was doing research on Cerebral Palsy for a video I am editing. Thank you for the information and thoughts, and keep doing what your doing!
There are many ignorant people. I see you as a normal person with high intelligence, very beautiful, and I m sure blessed by the angels more than any ignorant person could dream of. You actuall have all the rights to be able to go out of your home and enjoy the outside world. I love the sea personally,. I plan to do more research on cerebral palsy as I am a very curious person, wanting to know why things are, what can we do to change things, What matters most in life. etc
@Powerchairchick ; yea i saw it, that's epic :D ! it's gunna aggravate me for EVER now that people make fun of people with something like what you have. -__- ; i think everyone who watches your videos, really learns something, i remember you saying in one of your videos, you wanted to do that. or something like that. & you're doing a good job at it. keep it up :D
you'ree sooo adorable! can we like. be best friends ?! :D i'm serious. you're amazing. ; not to be rude, or anything WHAT SO EVER. how do you type ? & don't listen to what people say. they're stupid. let them say what they want, you're happy with yourself, so it's all good. all you gotta do, is worry about yourself. F*%# PEOPLE. <3
@xAmbberxLynnx thank u! i have a video called "how i use a computer" where i show how i type. i would post the link here but youtube doesnt allow links in comments :-(
hey powerchairchick, i think you are amazing. I used this video for a presentation today in one of my university classes about people with disabilities and the barriers they face in their leisure and recreational lives. You inspired my entire class and they all think you are a wonderful human being.
You are doing such a great job to show people that those with disabilities are no different than those who do not have a disability. Message me anytime, i would love to get to know you.
@FuegoSchaf that's awesome! Thank you so much! Feel free to shoot me a message on youtube by going to my channel. I'd love to hear more about your class!
I have a disability too and use crutches/chair depending on the situation. There's so much to say but you know the rest because you've just said it all in your video. It's all about perception. To the point though, I saw a couple of your vids a while ago, but I never commented. My apologies. I've been on a break from YT, but now I'm coming back.
To wrap this up, I hope you're enjoying college life! When you graduate, please take over the world and fix it. :D
Hi Powerchairchick, thank you for the videos. My daughter Abbie has cerebral palsy and my wife hates going out with her because of how people stare at her but for some reason I couldn't care less. I think their just looking and sort of learning at the same time, though it really throws me someone actually comes up to you and ask's questions (but also nice). If I was in my daughters place I might feel different?, I only see it from my perspective. Please keep the videos coming if u have time
@cylon64 you're welcome! personally, I'm MUCH more offended when people (especially adults) stare at me, rather than coming up to me and those I'm with and asking questions. When people stare, they don't actually learn anything and make me feel like an animal in a zoo, rather than a person. when they ask questions, at least I know that when they walk away, they'll be educated.
U No What Im 12 And I totally agree with u but im like 1 out of a million who when i see people with diabilities i dont find the different things i find similarities and u no what when i clicked on this video i thought u were gonna tlk about someone elses disabilities see i didnt see tht in u ur very brave and very pretty and ppl like u are my romodels to just be tht brave
I agree with everything you are saying! Being Autistic, I get stares, & of course, I also have Cerebral Palsy too. I get stares by people looking @ me using my Loftstrand/Forearm Crutches, & that both my legs are encased in AFO leg braces which I need to be able to stand & walk. Have also been stared @ in men's bathrooms regarding my carrying my wet (& or poopy) incontinence diaper & throwing it away in the trash too.
i have to agree with what you said. i have a disability, too, and i don't let people treat my like i'm a baby. i am almost 14 years old. so to me, there is no such thing as "normal" because everybody is different.
I myself am a mild spastic diplegic (scissors gait to a degree, but not too pronounced) and I absolutely LOATHE how people, at first glance, gaze at me not nonchalantly, but with pity. It just irks me. There's so many people who have it worse off than I do, and I'm just grateful I'm as capable as I am mentally. And thankfully, my speech is not affected.
What is normal? Normal doesn't exist. It is the invisible line in the eyes of man. Not everyone sees that. Thanks so much for the video!
Its the same in UK and for adults with acquired disability its not just cos you are young and born disabled. I'm 41 now and only had Ataxia 8 years. I noticed when I go out in electric chair and use lightwriter communication aid people talk down to me alot more. oddly when I'm on mobility scooter and just had iPhone (I got Proloquo2go on it incase need to ask for stuff in shops) i get a different response.
Well Said sure there is no one normal in society. I work with people with disabilities since I turned 18 but grew up with relations and friends with disabilities. People have to understand not all disabilities effect the mental capabilities as that is clearly seen from ur video that ur very intelligent. i would have put around 20 on u but i say people only think ur 13 14 tops which they dont put the consideration to sometimes when speaking to you. Glad u posted ur video
You're 21?! nice! me too lol. It's awesome that you're in college.. there's a lot of people that don't even want to try. It's kewl that you're thankful for all the positives in your life. There's a lot of people that take things for granted (like myself).
Happy be-lated thanksgiving! lol. You ever get into black friday or cyber monday shopping?
For them not to live life to its fullest because it seems hard would be like a non-disabled person staying in bed all day every day because that's 'easier'. It's called clinical depression, and it's neither easy nor sustainable.
So if you see this and think 'wow', you don't understand. Everyone spends life doing things they consider worthwhile, within limits and often despite them. This is no different for disabled people. It just seems different to others, because they can't imagine life with disability. But those born disabled have never been without it.
WRT pity and people calling you strong, I understand that too. They see someone who can't do anything unless she puts in 10 times the effort it costs them. Not giving up under those circumstances is considered strong. But to you it's always been that way, and you've had lots of time to build your life around it. For you to stop chasing your dreams now would be a sign of mental illness, not understandeable human weakness.
I understand, times infinity+2! I've had a rather mild case of spastic CP since birth, but thanks to PT, botox, surgery and oral baclofen, I can now do anything I want to unassisted. I still look different when I walk, though, and solely because of that, there are people who treat me like a six-year-old. Thank you for helping to dispell the ignorance!
I know exactly how you feel i also have Cerebral palsy from birth too i look ok when i'm sat down or from a picture you wouldn't really notice but as soon as people find out i have a disability they treat me so much different and also talk down to me like i am a dumb idiot because i walk differently or am in a wheelchair i know your frustration of people not understanding that we all have the same feelings and goals in life as everyone else it's just it might take us a little longer!
I am a female with Spina bifida and i know exactly what it feels like...I am always being stared at, made fun of and told that i'm not capable of doing certain things.....All i can do is prove all of them wrong..I am not going to let them think that i am incapable of taking care of myself..I am not going to let others make my life a living hell
There are some people who simply have never been around anybody with disabilities. They might not intend to be idiots.
Me I've been fortunate to have been friends with several people with CP. I worked as an EA at a school for children with physical disabilities. (most notably, CP)
I've never looked at someone with any disability (even non physical) differently. Its just the way I am. Nobody likes being treated like a child... I hope the act of an instructer or prof didn't inspire this video.
The more i get older the more i realize most people just plain suck. It all goes back to human nature, to get a perfect example of this just take a look at how chimpanzees attack one another. They have wars just like we do, when other tribes "nations" invade each others territory they go balistic. People wonder how the nazis were able to do such things to other people, well people have been doing the same thing to each other for millenia nothing has changed except the number of people involved.
i really know how you fell i see you as adult am mild cp all my life and all have it for the rest of my life i know how people look at me too they still do i don't care if they do i don't think you act or look like 2year old its not what on the out side but what is on the inside that matters
I have vitiligo and even though I'm white and the spots are hardly noticeable, people love to stare and some even make comments. I'm like you, I would lead a perfectly happy life if people just didn't make a big deal out of it.
BTW, you have stunning looks -- very easy on the eyes.
65kelly, I don't think it's out of ignorance for someone to try to help someone else with a disability. I'm sorry if someone doing so has offended you. I wk in a store and often assist a man who had stroke just by opening the door. I don't pick him up, I don't rush him. He laughs everytime he sees me and is always happy. I try not to make him laugh becuz it causes him to fall. I tell him I'll wait till he stops to tease him and he laughs at that.for me it's same as opening the door for anyone
Very well said! Nice to see you again after such a long period. Thank you for using your AAC device. It was easier for me to hear you and understand as I am hard of hearing. You made a lot of good points in your video and I hope that people learn from it.
i amazed, truly. I was having this very same conversation with my husband just this morning. I also was born with CP although i am able to walk with the assistance of canes. I was relating to him that although CP is annoying and sometimes wish i that i was born without it, i would be able to cope with that very well, if it werent for the stares, comments, and unsolicited "help" offered by persons spurred by ignorance and a need to feel superior to someone because of poor self esteem.
I think when people say "you're so strong!" or if they pity you, I think that it's because they don't understand.
