if the numbers counting on the reb box are in indication of how long the person has been detected, I'd say 35 seconds for a lifeguard to look at a screen and dive in the water is a hella long time...

So even if ur an amazing swimmer u can still drown things happen, you might have made a bad decision, or the unexpected happened. she probably knew how to swim just stuff happens.

Have you ever heard of cramps (arm, leg, stomach)? I was swimming back in the '80's, and developed a leg cramp. I felt myself going under and luckily enough was able to grab hold of the lane divider. If I wouldn't have been able to do that, I more than likely would've sunk to the bottom. If you've never experienced anything like this, it can be VERY scary! To this day, I swim as close as I can to the divider.
She also could've had some sort of seizure or attack.

You do realize that safety devices like that need to be able to with stand a minimum of 5x what is expected to be put on it? That's a law in all engineering.

This is terrifying! It freaked me out how she was just lying there though. Especially since it`s black & white. I'm an Ellis and Associates trained lifeguard. This would be my 3rd year and I just had my license renewed this last weekend. Not spotting this girl drowning is unacceptable. It is tough work to keep the 10/20 rule, but if it's THAT difficult then some one ought to pull away these guards license. Using a camera to do your job for you is a joke.
I am a lifeguard... We work on a 10sec to scan and 20secs to respond working in a pool is hard work even more when it is a 'silent' drowning person give them a break!!
According to our trainer/assessor, these systems are only in place in pools which have diving boards and extremely deep parts which are difficult to observe due to the sheer depth creating line of sight issues. In the pools in wales where these systems are in place, it is due to the depth of the pool as well as the panoramic style windows which can create glare on the water, thus in its conception, it was recognised additional safety features were required, as it was a lifeguards nightmare.

This is terrifying! It freaked me out how she was just lying there though. Especially since it`s black & white. If I wasin that pool I would have saved her, because I wear goggles and am constantly diving underwater. Wouldnt you think that somebody in the pool would have noticed though? I mean, come on! I'm an Ellis and Associates trained lifeguard. This would be my 3rd year and I just had my license renewed this last weekend. Not spotting this girl drowning is unacceptable. It is tough work to keep the 10/20 rule, but if it's THAT difficult then some one ought to pull away these guards license. Using a camera to do your job for you is a joke.

According to our trainer/assessor, these systems are only in place in pools which have diving boards and extremely deep parts which are difficult to observe due to the sheer depth creating line of sight issues. In the pools in wales where these systems are in place, it is due to the depth of the pool as well as the panoramic style windows which can create glare on the water, thus in its conception, it was recognised additional safety features were required, as it was a lifeguards nightmare.

if you look at the number next to the body, it increases by 1 every second, so it is safe to assume that it is continuously keeping count. By the time he gets down...it reads 85...so it took them probably about a minute and 25 seconds prior to the alarm sounding...what a joke
