because their reason for not being afraid of swine flu is because there is a vaccine. That's NOT the reason to not be afraid of swine flu. I am more afraid of the vaccine than I am of the swine flu, but really I don't care about either one very much. By the way, what makes you think PBS and NPR is "real" news? Most of their stories come from the AP which is as mainstream as it gets. Bottom line, swine flu shouldn't be in our consciousness at all.

Their reason, as stated on their site is that they think that swine flu is just another flu and was popularized by mass media as another panic inducing event. The difference between NPR and FOX for example is the quality of reporting. NPR gives facts but do not add spin on it. You do not have commentary like Fox CNN or MSNBC. They report News but do not put their opinion into it. They are, as most would say, pure journalists. Also, most of their news comes from their own investigations.

Another thing though. Like you though, I will not be getting the Vaccine because I feel it is unnecessary. I hear rumors that they might be trying to make the injection mandatory. But, I like NPR because of how they do business. Taxpayer money pays for it. They are not owned by major news agencies and like I said, do not put a spin on their news.
I think we can at least agree on those points if nothing else. Like you I don't think swine flu should be in our consciousness at all

In order to beat a desease your body develops antibodies, which take care of the virus and remain in your body thus partially protectiong you from getting sick of the same thing again. AND since swine flu and regular flu are very close antibodies developt after having the regular flu help against swine flu. For example: I live in a country called bulgaria. Our climate helps desieses survive so almost everyone has had the flu SO we're in less danger of swine flu infection than you.

H1N1 is actually a mutation of a human flu and swin flu-it's not a pure swine flu.
It's a flu virus which is picked up by person to person contact-not but food contamination.
The reason the government is freaked out is because a similar incient happened in 1918 which ended in a deadly pandemic which killed millions and it was cause by a swine and human flu combination.

The swine flu was not only around in the 70s, there was a Forced Vaccination program for it in '76.
The flu had killed 1 person, so they forced vaccinations on thousands. 25 died to the vaccine, and thousands were left paralyzed or mentally damaged for life - before they stopped the program.
