  • GREAT I LOVE IT11

  • I thing this is the COOLEST bass slap line ever, soo groovy, good playing, enjoyed it, thumbs up man

  • I saw Thomas Dolby in concert in Tokyo last week. He said this song had never been played with a real bass. He had a friend come on stage a play it on a bass and said it was the first time.

  • @kurtcommon That friend wasn't me, unfortunatley ; )

This thumb/index combination works well for the line with an easier flow than constant thumb imo, the two main points are:

The main line starts on the index finger and a lot of the line is played with the thumb and index working on the same string.

Thanks for your kind comments everyone, I'm glad you enjoyed and got some use from it, cheers ; )

  • @TheSkitch777 The guy didn't play with his thumbs either.

  • WOW that was amazing, do you have any tabs of it?

  • Excellent job...well done!

  • Bravo, that's a tricky technique and you nailed it :)

  • This is great, especially considering (I recall reading) that for the track's actual bass line Thomas took the bass player's original recording, sampled and completely reworked it using his Fairlight. I am not a bass player but I am sure many good players would struggle to play this live for the full length of the track.

  • WOW - I LIKE THIS - VERY FLUENT !!!

  • Nice one bro, you're such a controlled player, make it look effortless!

  • Absolutely briilliant ! I love the tone you have on this. Are you useing a delay? Thanks for posting this.

  • @ChanceC5 Thanks, I don't use a delay but the mic picks up the acoustic sounds from the bass in the background, the amp volume level is set quite low. Also a little delay between the synth line and the thumb line in parts there give it that impression, cheers : )

  • ola oye no sabes cuanto cuesta ese bass esq tengo uno y lo quiero vender pero no se cuanto cuestas porfa me dise xD

  • i just love this bass!! where did you get it?

  • @rebain18 I believe they were discontinued around 2007, both of mine were found on Ebay, I think that would be the best bet for finding one.

  • @TheSkitch777 well i am looking for it pretty frequently but never shows anything... but i'll keep on trying ^^

have you made any adjustments to your bass or anything? i mean like the pick ups? i saw a video of a japanese girl playing this bass and has put seymour duncans on it

  • @rebain18 Yep, I've watched a couple of her uploads a while back, good player, great direct sound. I think the P/Up's are the originals, just painted-in a little, she sometime painted the bridge too looking by the vids. The originals are a good high output for a passive bass, pretty nice.

  • @TheSkitch777 awesome, makes me want this bass even more!!

  • @TheSkitch777 Hey, I just wanted to chime in and say that her bass is the SBV-800MF, the Miki Furukawa signature model. I think the differences are mostly cosmetic though.

    SBV love!

  • Well played sir :D Nothing like a bit of Dolby.

  • forgot about this song n1 man
