Congrats! I am 12 and i just shot my first deer. It was a good sized 4 by 5. After i shot it i was shaking so bad that could barely even carry the gun. I would have happy for any buck, but i got to have that one.

Yea it takes time and patience, im 22 yrs old and got my first deer this year. Just remember to be patient and take time to aim and make sure you get a good shot, somtimes its frustratiing. But its all worth it when you get that first deer. Good luck.

My first gun was a Savage 243 and I loved it! I hunted a lot around the Atlanta area before TB was a scare (1989-1992). Its all about placement and 1000 lbs per inch for knockdown power!
I killed one with a .223 and it went down like a rock. DEAD ON IT'S FEET!!!! All it takes it a good shot placement. You can kill one with a .22 rimfire in some states.
depends where you are, .22mags can be used here. dropped one at 30yards with a .22 long rifle between the eyes...it was a doe though, i would never take a long shot with it or a shot on a buck either but 30 yards to the head with hollow points makes for a clean kill. it dropped instantly

Northern Michigan, God's country. Deer, grouse, black bear hunting in fall, snowshoe rabbit hunting in the winter, morels in spring, blueberries in August, camping anytime--free access on thousands of acres of public land. Go to any other state and you'll have a hard time finding so much outdoor freedom and easy access to wilderness. Beaver ponds, bald eagles, porcupines, etc. Plenty of elbow room up there and lots to see. I lived there for nine years and now miss the heck out of it.

It's a lot more ethical to let the deer starve to death, or get dragged down by hungry coyotes and wolves to die a slow death than to shoot them, and eat them to get the proteins that our bodies need. Now let there be no doubt in anyones mind that harvesting a deer is perfectly fine in God's eye. Now if you have some other reason for not wanting to kill animals fine but for me if God said it is Okay then I could care less what somebody's personnel feelings are about it. By the way
finnandfinn I respect your service to your country I too served in the military. You still have not explained why you feel it is murder. The verse you listed is specifically talking about people killing people.

There's nothing sportsman about sniping out an animal....Why don't you hide in a tree and jump down on the deer and take him with your bare hands. Probably because it is not meant to be. If animal were meant to be ate; they would grow in the ground or on a tree like everything else.

@finnandfinn animals were meant to be "ate" by the natural predators on earth. humans were also meant to "ate" them, shown by our teeth. predators were made with special characteristics that allow them to hunt. humans were not. we were never made to hunt with our bare hands. we were made with advanced brains to make tools our bodies were without, such as hunting spears and now, guns.

It's a lot more ethical to let the deer starve to death, or get dragged down by hungry coyotes and wolves to die a slow death than to shoot them, and eat them to get the proteins that our bodies need. Think about what you write while munching on your carrott before you write it. Their is a food chain that was created from the creator.

Actually my friend, I have respect for innocent things. For your information; I am a U.S. Marine and former police officer who fears no man. I am an avid proponent for gun rights and carry at least two pistols on me at all times. Not to mention my family owns a logging business who cuts hundreds of trees everyday...and Abortion. @finnandfinn Obviously you have never shot a deer before if you think that a good kill shot will drop it in it's tracks every single time. The animals have stamina. I double lunged a buck last year and it went about 1/2 mile.

Congratulations on your first buck! I hunt in da Keweenaw and I took my daughter (9 years old) to deer camp in 2007. We got a buck just like yours on opening morning!
