  • Great band,great song!

  • fucking yanks watching this

  • @TheClarenceter What's wrong with us Yanks listening to this? There are more Irish here than in Ireland anyway.

  • @Petox20x Correction: There isn't a single Irishman in the US.

  • great song. i'm so glad that the band plays on at the end, and then the last up-tempo bit is just terrific.

  • Wow, the lyrics to this song, and the song itself, are beautiful. God bless poor Shane. It's so very sad what's become of him. But the Pogues will live on forever.

  • best song writer ever god bless shane!!!!!!!!

  • all i can say is savage

  • Shane is God.

  • as i walked by the riverside...

  • Irish Culture is pure gold

  • Irish music must never ever be let die out like other cultures music. This is absolute gold.

  • One of the best from the Pogues-

looking forward to seeing them at Brixton

this xmas for an almighty piss up- dancing like a lunatic- having the craic- feeling the love- it's great to be alive..

God bless Shane and keep him safe...

  • @tallpaddy Great post. Exactly how I feel. Cant wait for this christmas at Brixton too, this will be my 3rd year

  • @STFCstoneroses Can't wait either, I usually see them in Glasgow but last year I came down to London to see them, same again this year, can't wait...theres something special about seeing them where they started out. Pogue Mahone.

  • shane macgowan is one of my favorite lyricists. songs like this speak to so many people of so many walks of life. what a fucking poet.

  • hope they'll play in/near holland one day again!

  • @chrisaldi dranouter in belgie deze zomer ;)

  • I love that extra bit at the end.

Great song like most of the above have said.

  • He is/was the best contemporary songwriter Britain had/has!

  • Great song with The Pogues!

  • I think I like this more than the "finished" version.

  • i agree. for me it's all of the extra improvised stuff from Terry.

  • all me love to shane...

    cheers to ye all...

Now i shall share his wisdom with a bottle of gin=)

  • Its a combination of a cough a fart and a sneeze.

    I think.

  • Shaneo makes a strange grunt at 4:07 on this recording. letting a bit of gruff out! i like

  • Saw him at a small club in Philly while there on a trip. Good show even though he was pretty plastered.

  • even though nothing

when in the presence of a god little matters

  • True enough.

  • respect dude

  • Macgowan is an artist, like many great artists, that wont be truly appreciated in his lifetime. Some of his lyrics are pure poetry. This one is a perfect example. Long live shanes talent

  • You're right. He is a TRUE modern day Bard. Most of his lyrics are the greatest things i've ever heard or read. But i think he's very appreciated alive.

  • MacGowans lyrics should be studied as part of the national curriculum....beautiful poetry.

  • Whenever I hear a version of this song I'm never disappointed - brilliant!!!!

  • .....one evening in the spring

heard a long gone song from days gone by

blowing in on the great north wind

though it was no lonesome corncrakes cry

    of sorrow or delight

    you can hear the cars

    and the shouts from bars

and the laughter and the fights

  • Shane McGowan is the last of a dying breed, that of true Irishmen, true genlemen, true raw naked talent. May he last forever!

  • damien dempsey

  • Amazing, you're a brilliant fella for putting all this stuff up and I hope you and your family live long and enjoyable lives

  • Thanks for your kind words, likewise PogueMahoneCoG

  • Brilliant song

  • Kiitos !

  • nice

  • One of my favorite songs.

    This version is amazing.

  • Like this a lot. Terry Woods has some fun in the second half. Can't wait to get my box set, thanks for posting!

  • When it comes to the album If I should Fall From Grace - These demos actually appeal me more, as the sound feels too clean for them in the later release... Anyway, thanks for the upload, and where did you find all this?

  • Well said that man =P

I got them from their new boxset "Just look them straight in the eye and say Pogue Mahone!"

  • Cheers :)
