  • And you guys thought that Wildstar was a hothead. He captained the Argo in kicking the Gamilons in their own backyard while taking care of his girl. What a stud.

  • This was the best line - "Leader Desslok must stop fooling ourselves" LD "What"!? You said it yourself, its almost as if we have been fighting a ghost ship"! " How can an old Earth Battleship defeat all of Gamilon"? "We've been fighting a force we don't understand"! "Let us stop fighting them before they DESTROY US"! well said Crypt. They paid dearly.

  • @onehundredstocks It's too bad they cut out Desslok's original response to that (Crypt being murdered by Desslok).

  • @starsiegeplayer I did not know that. I wonder if that scene is featured in Space Battleship "Yamato"? It would be in 'Japanese' Language.

  • @onehundredstocks in the real version Deslock turns and shoots Crypt with his pistol

  • @fendergibs That would not surprise me. General Krypt is just like Rudolph Hess, a man in a very powerful position, but really nothing more than a puppet YES man to their nation's supreme leader.

  • @Halpin2006 The US version had to be tamed down thus many sceens were edited

  • I fear I'm pitiless. Gamelon got what they deserved. They had no problem with visiting genocide on Earth; billions of innocent civilians were executed with their planet bombs. Actually, Mercury would have met their needs more than Earth, but Desslok decided to senselessly irradiate, and lay waste to the world of his choice. His arrogance came with a horrible price. The remoarse contained this this episode's counterpart in "Space Battleship Yamato" was not well taken.

  • @tgarnett25 True True, but it's just science fiction.

  • @tgarnett25 yes which is why many have prob with how later Deslock is kinda turned into a friend later, which is weak

  • @tgarnett25 I see it as the difference between Gamilons and the people of earth: at least in the "Star Blazers" future, earth fights only as a last resort, and takes no joy in it.

In real earth history, of course, there's plenty of examples of conquerors who aren't in it to be evil, they simply want what the other guy's got. The British Empire was completely bastardly, but their motto could have been, "Don't take it personally, it's just business". Maybe that's Desslok as well.

  • Thank you for posting these.

  • desslok should have smoked crypt right then and there!! old bastard!

  • Hey, this just occured to me.

Despite the Argo getting trashed several times, were there EVER any casualties on the Starforce's side?

As far as I can tell, Avatar seems to be the only person who died on the crew. And even THAT was from illness.

I mean it's entirely possible I simply dont recall any others, but I can't recall that any others were ever mentioned.

  • @ReverendSyn U.S. televison would never allow that....you see in the comet empire....conroy/knox/royster all die...knox and royster pretty violent....

  • @ReverendSyn 2 episodes, when the gamilons attacked with 4 carriers, there were casualities. Near the end of the episode, coffins are seen on the deck. Also you do see several pilots were killed in air combat.

  • after 25 years, that was worth the wait :)

  • Unspoken thought: "I should have let Lysis use that artificial sun!"

  • So good triumphs over evil... By being more violent than evil and committing genocide.

There's a moral for the kiddies right there.

  • @ReverendSyn A good point. Having said that however, if the Gamelons didn't start this, the Starforce wouldn't have had to retaliate. It's a fight to the death and ultimately, it's survival of the fittest... or in this case the "good guys."

  • @theromulanwarhawk Oh absolutely. I was just being cheeky when I said that.

The Starforce really didn't have any real choice. And the snce the Gamelons weren't going to be negotiated with. It was basically an unavoidable "Us or them" scenario. An ugly choice no one should make lightly. But sometimes the ugly choice has to be made.

Win or lose, war is Hell.

  • Hmm...I would have placed planetary defense batteries on the outer crust, pointed out from wence come enemies. I guess everyone is going to chant your name when you have hundreds of missles pointed at your citizens' heads.

  • LMAO...."i'm kinda dizzy...that's normal for you eager"...LOL..

  • this show had such an impact on mylife..i name some of my baseball/hockey fantasy teams...the star force or rocketanchors....

  • hey...want better quality cheapies buy it or rent it ungrateful 4 days.... jerks!

  • @MsHarleyBarley

    Agree.

Besides, VHS quality is more nostalgic. Makes the show exactly as I remember it when I was little.

  • @blueskunk12 cheerio...i miss those days tremendously....

  • LOL!! IT'S A GHOST SHIP!

  • it's a lot like der untergang...

  • lol... strange comparison. VERY strange comparison.

  • Oh yeah... what we thought was being mellow actually turned out to be the fact that Desslok is bonzo nutters.

  • yeah that's an interesting observation...happens more than you would think

  • you will have the thanks of the world. the take off from gamilon with iscandar coming into view, followed by the congratulations from captain avatar was truly a sci fi moment... they made it !

  • SIMPLY THE BEST SHOW EVER

  • This show deserves better video quality.

  • From when I saw the original japanese (with english subtitles) I can't enjoy the american. In american, many dialogs are corrupted and some scenes are cut...

  • To be fair, when this dub was done, no one (English speaking audiences) much cared about how true to the original Japanese shows like this was as anime as a genre hasn't taken off in the US yet. Hell, back in those days, if you mentioned the word anime back then, the average teenager would respond "Who's that?"

  • The dialog starting at 6:10 between Derec and Nova is different and much better in the original japanese... In the american edition they cut it...

  • Would have been nice if I could have seen the Argo trashed in better quality video. I know I haven't seen the show in decades, but I remember it being clearer than this. Still, good to see again.

  • Whomever posted this series on Youtube might have gotten this from some old VHS tapes, that could explain the poor quality.

  • The dub is hilarious.

  • "Fire all our missles! Empty the arsenal! Shoot down the memory of the star force!"

    "GASP!"

The reason he gasped is because he hired illegal immigrants from that insect planet to install the missles, which go straight down, and they installed them above the city. =)

  • Ooh 1:24. The effect of eyeballs on Desslok is negligible.
