  • This is my very first video to make it to 100,000 views! Thanks to all!!!

  • In Australia (at least in Adelaide), the bells ding the whole way, even when the gates go up.

  • I sometimes think that electronic bells are annoying at times, this one is the best one I have ever heard before!

  • Why does the train sound the horn when there already are bells ringing? In Europe they don't.

  • @Toucanfan - It is North American law that the locomotive engineer must sound his horn in a crossing sequence (long-long-short-long) before entering each crossing unless the crossing has a Quiet Zone which must be requested by the city or county and then approved by the railroad.

  • @deloreanman14 some (rarely) have this installment where the trains cant blow there own horns but they have a automated machine to do it for them ur also forgetting that they must blow there horns to warn Traffic but yah your right

  • in québec (lemieu) they have a train cross evry 20 minutes

  • ok so since the comment is pending aprroval the end lights are not supposed to be flashing and ever since the wes was put in EVERY gate it runs by does that. it has NOT been fixed.

  • Stupid W.C. Hayes Electronic Crossing Bells!!!! That dosent even sound like a bell!!!

  • someone wired that gate wrong. the light at the end of the gate is suposed to stay on and not flash. just like the one on the other side of the street..

  • @Aloud11 - They have since fixed the problem.

  • @deloreanman14 no they didn't...

  • @deloreanman14 Actually some crossings are meant to be like that. Their harder to find but some have every light on the gate flash.

  • @Aloud11 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! that has always bothered me and ever since the wes was put in 500 gates now have the blinking end light!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!!

  • I hate those electronic bells, I thought they were supposed to be off when the gates are down?

  • @NS7698 - Here in Oregon, bells always ring from start up until the gates start rising. UP often does it so the bells ring whenever the lights are flashing. This line used to be an SP line and I guess the Portland & Western just continued their way of doing things.

  • beautiful horn! thank's for this video

  • According to this RR Crossing Video (including some of the other videos that feature the same sound as the RR Crossing Bells heard on this one).

Whenever I listen to the pretty-chiming RR Crossing Bells on this video, I happen to hear 'em sound out of nowhere based on what's in my imagination as well as hearing them on RR Crossing Signs, for random reasons (even when I hear a lot of noise from the fan & hair-dryer, for instance) which means it all started yesterday. How about with you guys?

  • What a sexy horn! Dammn!

  • not for long

  • nice video!!=)

  • @Flipzsd2 Thanks! :-)

  • 50,000 views!!! Thanks for making this my most-watched video.

  • those are the loudest bells i ever heard.

  • @myrealghostbusters - It's probably the lack of ambient noise that makes them sound louder than they really are. Believe it or not, they can be set louder than that!

  • @deloreanman14 You are so right! And BTW, I think I heard the Railroad Crossing Bells sound like that when I saw some trains go by.

  • Perfect!

    So much wood!!!

    Favorite!

  • I have never seen a crossing where all 3 lights on the gate flash. Most of the time the light at the very top part (when not lowered) stays on. and the other 2 will flash.

  • @Railfan24 The USDOT requires that the tip light (the light on the free end, or tip of the gate) must be a steady burning lamp, while the two inner lights flash in sync with the lights on the signal mast. Note that the gate lights on the far side of the tracks seem to operating properly. This was probably the result of faulty wiring or improper installation by the maintainers.

  • what state is downtown tigard in?

  • Oregon.

  • NO BELLS

  • @ekoslosky Well, there are bells, it's just that they were digitally recorded and they're being played back here.

  • What a nice Midnight Freight Train!

  • Great video.

The two ex-SL&A units look very similar to the G&W units over in York, PA which are ex-MPA GP7s & CF-7s.

  • This is my son's favorite video. We watch it only about 100 times a day

  • My 3 y.o. son loves to watch this video, he loves trains and railroad crossings!

  • Wow...22,000 views in a little over a year! This video is poised to become my most viewed.

Many thanks to everybody who has checked this out. :-)

  • The delay between the barriers coming down and the train passing is much shorter than the delays over here in the UK

  • The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has suggested that a 20 second warning time is adequate. Less time and motorists will not have time to react. More time will cause them to grow impatient and they will be more likely to drive around the gates.

  • do some ppl turn to avoid the train?

  • Yeah actually they do.....but those idiots usually get to the next crossing only to find the lights flashing and the gates already going down.....I remember a guy racing us from MP 58 to MP 53 to try and get ahead of us on the NS lurgan branch, but he got to MP 53 the same time we did.....Train=1 Idiot=0 LOL

  • This crossing signal area is a great setup. Now, we have this brochure that has this crossing on the front cover. This is one of the best crossings set like this in the U.S.A. you guys must love it...

  • I like the sounds of the signals. Awesome!

  • Who doesn't? LOL!

  • I've seen this crossing before from on a bridge. I never knew both signals had electronic bells.

  • i do have to admit the Electronic Bell on the light mass sounded great. I've heard some that all you hear is a faint squeak and its like MEGA-FAILURE this one wasn't to bad at all.

  • For those wondering about the incorrectly flashing light on the tip of the gate, it has been fixed as of 6.7.2009. Thanks P&W!

  • how does the signal get activated, is it a pressure switch or a radio signal

  • It has to do with changes in electrical current that travels from one rail to the other when the current is completed by the metal train wheels.

It judges how quickly the train is coming and if it stops short, will deactivate the signals.

  • The top gate light (on the close signal) should not be flashing. It is supposed to remain on solid as a marker for the end of the gate. The technician wired the gate lights incorrectly.

  • he failed

  • Long train! lol..and dont the morons know they arent supposed to stop on the tracks? Similar to the SRY in Surrey BC

  • Flashing gate light on 1 of the gates, not good.

  • Sounds like the Main St UP Crossing in Rochelle IL.

  • Woah, the light on the tip of the gate is flashing...
