Max is often used for video games more often. But Maya is often used for film. They are almost impossible to tell apart if done right.

They both are different programs, but they accomplish similar things. Maya is mainly for CG and stuff. Did you see Transformers? Something like Maya made the robots and put them into a recorded video.

3ds max is mainly for modeling and rendering, lots of video game companies use it. I was looking at Bungie's (makers of Halo) job openings, and found they even use it.

Just don't torrent them, your ISP will catch you ripping off $1000+ software :S

The "S" marks are from the soft edit (or something) tool. I think you can simply clear the history of the object (edit>delete by type>history) or finding the nodes from outliner and deleting them.

Hey Ipfann, You can try one of two things. Goto Display/UI Elements/ (make sure shelf is ticked). If the shelf is ticked, then try Display/UI Elements/Restore UI Elements, this will restore the Elements to the default settings. Little note, the shelf usually goes missing by clicking on the status line by mistake (located top left of the program). Hope this helps.

I just finished my very first animation, and I did the render. Once it finished the render, I played my animation, but windows media or quick time couldn't play it because they both did not recognise the compresor file used. In the render settings, I used avi format and compresion cinepack codec. How can I make either media player or quick time recognise this compresion method? I'm using the PLE. It will be highly appretiated.

Hey Mustan380. I tried the same settings you used and mine is working in MP and QT player. Make sure your players are up to date. Also have you tried installing the divx player? This should have the correct codec for watching your avi file. Give that a go, and see what happens. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
