  • i love the build-up into the song!

  • this music doesn't even try to hide the fact that the shit will go down

  • I'll admit it, I didn't play this game until the Nintendo DS re-release couple of years back and by god, I loved every minute of this game. Thanks Chrono Trigger for making me resent my parents because they didn't get an SNES when I was a wee lad, you're awesome.

  • nuh uh 7 people survived after lavos destroyed the world

  • @smashtasmism And than were killed by mutants.

  • This music is bad ass and Chronotrigger SNES is the best game ever made.

  • Lavos must've swallowed 6 people in his wrath.

  • I recently played skyrim, i recently played the first part of kingdom hearts, i started playing God of War. Skyrim is a catastophy, God of War seems okay, KH is decent, but this is a master piece. The only games that ever could get close and that I've played are Lufia and FF Tactics Advance 1. Really guys just keep your polygon count to yourselves, real games use sprites.^^

  • Games don't really have good scores like they used to. RPGs now lackluster and feel. The reason I never finished FFX...love this song. I could see a bellydancer swaying to this song.

  • I'm still convinced that Linkin Park "was influenced" by this song when they made "What I've Done" which is probably why it sucks less than their other songs.

  • I LOVE THIS GAME <3

  • @RabbitFrenzyy check out me playing this on the keybboard you might like :)

  • You know, it just occured to me that Marle doesn't use fire magic.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH VERY VERY VEY COOL!

Chrono Trigger is the best game that in the SuperNintendo!!!!!

  • Listening to this makes anything epic....even spiting!

  • Sound quality on your vid's are terrible.

  • @cloudparter The sound quality of his videos is perfect, ´cause this songs are from de SNES version.

  • @maximitus1 You are wrong.

  • @cloudparter No, he's right. This is the best that the *SNES* can produce. Probably even a direct rip. This was top-notch technology back then for Nintendo.

  • @cloudparter switch it to 240p

  • i heard this song in banjo kazooie: rated e?

    it was a remix,

  • Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as Chrono Trigger. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!

  • @ORTmusic if they are cool, i wil not do it as spam.

  • The worst part about the Undersea Palace is not being high enough level and trying to get past that damn almost never ending elevator part.

  • *sigh* Good times...

  • ICK! Constant, I don't know what you do before uploading, but the quality is ruined!

ALL of your musical tracks have this terrible distortion to them.

  • @VromNath he probably alters them a tich so they don't get taken down.

  • Nostalgia bomb!

  • @jizzthemagicdragon

Best combo for the game = Chrono + Frog (fighters) and Marle (healer)

This game can never be easier than that

  • @Jijenji My favorite team for the game too :D but I replace Marle with Magus when I can because they are awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • The future refused to change for 4 people.

  • @MonolithJunior it refused to change for every Chrono Trigger fan, since Chrono Ressurection has become a no go.

  • This theme always reminds of the Castle sidequest. Loved how Magus called Marle "Idiot!" (Crono has to be in the team to get that line) XD

  • Ow man, I just remember Crono kicking ass and critical hitting with the star sword :D

    EPIC theme.

  • This song still makes me feel awesome... and a little evil. More the better I suppose.

Chrono + Marle + Ayla = winning beatface team. Healing's a bit weak but sufficient, 2 rezzers, steal, bettersteal, ae damage from luminaire and cube toss is insane, final kick... really you got it all. Throw in gold studs on Chrono and Ayla and a green dream on Marle and go to town.

  • ok now My dream team always has been ,Crono,Ayla.and Robo.....Ayla and Crono have Falcon hit( which is awesome) and many more incredible techs...Robo and ayla = Beast Toss...and also they all have pretty strong Phisical atacks so :D LOVe THIS GAME!.. JUST THE BEST GAME EVEr

  • @randomdave So you're a justin bieber fan, shame on you

  • @randomdave Huh, how did you know I was a nerdy lesbian? Yeah, me and my girl play these kinds of games all the time, so naturally we listen to what we like.

  • @randomdave Usually when someone accuses another of being gay, they themselves are so far in the closet, one can barely see the reflection in their eyes.

  • @Link504 or its just a troll

  • @C12claws That too.

  • @Link504 The word is used so much nowadays, people don't even know what it means anymore. (Example: WOW THATZ GAY LOLOLOL)

  • @GenisisXX9 Admittedly, yes. You are right. :/

  • epic

  • Reminds me of Metal Gear 2.

  • This song = Moment of Truth. Prepare.

  • There aren't enough badass covers of this.

I need to change that. Now!

Working on something that should blow people's socks off. Can't wait to finally get some good recording equipment.

  • this game and song was badass 15 years ago when the game came out......and its still freakin badass

  • this song is desperate, like giving it your all, sacrificing your very life, because there isn't much time left to save the world from almost certain doom.

  • what drugs was they on when they made this music, cuz you'd have to be on some shit to make shit like this in the 90's

  • 4 People thought when that bitch awakened lavos the game ended.

  • @Hellman618 fucking diot

  • If only I could have this game never opened and still sealed... I would cry

  • How anyone can thumb down this track is beyond me, but 4 people??? lame

  • I love how this music keeps playing during fights in the palace. It adds a certain weight and sense of urgency to the battles.

  • aaaah memories.....

  • Best part of the game. The whole 12,000 AD storyline was just pure magic for me.

I saved up for months to be able to afford the game (was about 160$, I had to buy it as an import since it never got released in europe).

It influenced me and my friends in the most positive way. We spent weekends playing this game together, and something about it just stuck. We still talk about it when we meet nowadays, and I think that the game's theme of friendship reinforced our own relationships. :)

  • @Ford042 I agree about the 12,000 BC (actually) section. I mean, the entire game is amazing but this section stood out the most for me. Maybe because it was the height of the storyline? Either way, it really makes you wonder about the idea of an advanced civilization in the distant past that's been erased by time. I always took it as a reference to Atlantis. It's a pretty unlikely scenario but it's a possibility.

  • I, too, started playing this game this year. I never grew up with it so I have a completely unbiased opinion... from an honestly critical viewpoint free of any nostalgia, Chrono Trigger is one of the finest games I have ever played.

  • @Writtenjustice Absolutely true. I never played it until it was released for the DS. Even being the 3Dwhore that I am with my love of shooters and shiny graphics, this game is brilliant in every respect. I think only Okami compares to the number of times Chrono Trigger brought tears to my eyes. This game surpasses nostalgia, it's going to be a great game for years and years, I think. How many games get remade twice?

  • @echoskybound You're right, my friend. CT is a true treasure and a testament to what's possible when a developer buckles down and works hard.

  • This is one of the best rpg games of all time!

  • The fact that it continues playing during battle is just so well thought. The music is that epic.

  • this music gives me goose bumps

    love it :)

  • most frustrating yet epic part in the game.

  • XD i first played this game in the 90's....damn that was a good year for growing up with games to bad we will never have a what i call a "golden age for games" again unless something comes that out that will blow ppl away

  • the music in older games like this was the main thing that kept players immersed in the game. i wish that games today had such wonderful music but I don't think it will happen because they put so many other things to immerse players in the game such as graphics, achievements (xbox), dialogue that music doesn't seem as important to them as anymore.

heh, well on the bright side some games do have good music. mass effect 2 and halo 3 come into mind

  • I love this song so much!!! It feels so powerful, magical and mystical! Thanks for the upload thumbs up!

  • eot pwns ct. incredible song. best game of all time. best game soundtrack of all time. Next.

  • I can't decide which is my favorite of these three games-- FF6, CT, or BOF2. But of those three, CT definitely had the best soundtrack!

  • the song is so good that the usual battle theme doesnt even play

  • When I listen to this song, I always hear the distinct withdrawing noise that Chrono's sword makes as you enter battle.

  • @wytdb Likewise...likewise, with a Luminaire expanding, Lightning 2 crackling or Lightning Bolt cracking every once in a while. And since I use Frog incessantly, the sound of his blade slashing foes as well.

  • @wytdb I always here the transition sound effect when it goes back and forth between zeal and the main characters

  • Wicked tune.... Poor Chrono.... :(

  • Easily my favorite song from a video game soundtrack. The only word I can come up with to describe this is perfection.

  • Is there anyway to set 480p as default?

  • chuck norris listens to this daily

  • Really? Haha.

  • @mzh3000 no...arnold schwarzenneger does!:)

  • @mzh3000 then I must be Chuck Norris O-o

  • @mzh3000 i must be chuck norris

  • I like to think of the fast paced beat as our heroes' race against time, the slow bass as the inevitability of the ritual to summon lavos, the higher (trumpet? flute? midi) as the impending tragedy about to occur, and the rest of the instruments as the various obstacles conspiring to stop our heroes. There's definitely an impending dread about it.

  • This is the most motherfucking badass dungeon theme in the whole game, if not ever. I love the way this music keeps playing in battle, too. The Ocean Palace was my favorite dungeon in this game just for this music alone.

  • @TheUnpromisedOne

It's great that the devs realized how awesome this music was, and to just let it keep playing without interruption was a far superior choice than abruptly changing into the 'battle theme'

  • @TheUnpromisedOne The sense of urgency you get from this part of the game is fucking epic. I remember thinking, "Gotta hurry! Gotta get there before for that psycho bitch wakes him up!!" Chrono Trigger is one of the best things I've ever encountered. That and sex, but the game is pretty close! :)

  • @derlich09 I thought that I was the only one that thought that this part gave a sense of urgency, but I'm glad to find out that I'm not. Queen Zeal was a psychotic bitch that went power hungry after finding Lavos, and completely screwed a lot of stuff up, and even killed Crono! If there was one character to crown as the major bitch of the game, it was definitely Zeal.

  • @derlich09 Even with the advent of better graphics, spoken dialogue for every character, more dynamic content; this game will always rate in the best games of all time. The music, also, will forever be one of the greatest scores ever created.

  • @TheUnpromisedOne You know what makes it so great? The fact they gave it the 'final dungeon' treatment. Even though it wasn't the end of the game.

  • @TheUnpromisedOne

Yeah- it helped that this was at a point in the game when some pretty serious shit was about to go down. This track says "Alright the stakes are high this time so don't... fuck... up. Go go go"

  • This song perfectly captures the exotic nature of Zeal, the dangerous technology of the mammon machine, and the desperation of Chrono and company's quest

  • i love this song , i agree with you , anything more is the near crono's death ( just like janus said) . Great theme

  • I call this the serious song.

  • LMAO

    XD

  • I are serious cat, this is serious song.

  • Sorry,had to say this : X-Files!

  • Fits perfectly to the side-quest of the Rainbow Shell too.

  • Amazing game. But does anyone else think it could be a Kingdom Hearts battle theme? Or is it just me.

  • OMG HE DID REALLY????!!! ahahahahaha no wonder why they look like DbZ Toons!!!

  • Wow, this is my fav CT song thus far. Its really making me want to go back and play the game again. Its been so many damn years!

  • Definitely a childhood classic when I was growing up. This was also my favorite part during the game. What did it for me was the whole atmosphere of this very part of the game.

The fact that Crono and the gang tried so hard to win yet, they couldn't and it really defined the desperation they were in to defeat Queen Zeal.

Plus I like the fact that the battle music never changed while you were in the Ocean Palace. It kept the mood going.

    Five stars hands down

  • Akira Toriyama's artwork is well done here. :D

  • when i heard this my jaw dropped

  • same shame here :D <3

  • They've put it out on the DS.

  • its on the Ds...a much better hand held system :O

  • I've heard this somewhere else...

  • Thy copied it from CT :P

  • Why is the art the same as DBZ? I always wondered.

  • If you look at who did all of the character designs, you'll find that the name of the guy who did this has the same name as the guy who did DBZ.

  • Oh cool. I never did before.

I guess it's like deathnote and castlevania judgment. It can be great to have the same artist with two different things, like chrono and DBZ. While it can be bad mixing them like deathnote and castlevania.

  • Akira Toriyama, was it?

  • Because Square asked Akira Toriyama to draw all te characted illustrations and box art

  • And then again for the DS's animated cutscenes

  • The cutscenes were in the playstation re-release of chrono trigger.

  • The same person who did the drawing/art for DBZ is the same one who did the drawing/art for Chrono Trigger

  • same artist

  • simple, the artist who drew dbz was the leading conceptual artist when square designed ct

  • Simply because the team who made Chrono Trigger hired the creator of DBZ, to design the characters and art for it. Cool huh?

  • ohh really, thats why marle looks like bulma. lol

  • This game had the most epic graphics and music back in the day

  • so so so fucking awesome!!! my blood pressure rises when I hear this song. You know that the end is near, and you only have one mission, to finish it! go chrono!!!!

  • I didn't play this until it came out on the DS, and I got it this last Christmas...and oh, man...it's become one of my favorite games since. :D

I was only 4 when the game originally came out, I believe, and I didn't have a SNES...I started playing games when the n64 came out. That might not be an excuse, but hey. :[

  • i remember wen my bro would play dis...jus watchin him play it made me wanna play. wen i first played it i saw why he liked it. dis game is so fuckin fun, and will always be one of the best rpgs in gamin history

  • hahah daamn dude me and my bro used to do the same thing!i would watch him play this shit for hours and its still one of my favorite games to this day, it doesnt seem like they put as much effort into makin games as good as these anymore

  • dey do, but not much. some games dese days be good, but dey still cant beat da classics.

  • I think it's because moast "new" RPGs have almost no orogional storyline and are too cleashay. there are a few good ones that are new but moast are repet storylines with diff charters.

  • exactly

  • To kairon156, I'm not sure if you're from elsewhere in the world besides the USA, but they're actually spelled:

    original

    cliche

    most

    repeat

    Sorry, I'm a grammar/spelling nut!

  • I bought this game a little over a year ago for the SNES. Cost me $80, and I still don't regret it, worth every dollar (even with the DS version announced shortly after my purchase).

  • 80$ for a game that's probly over 10 years old. wow even new top of the line games aren't that expensave but if they added a sound track menu I would defnatly pay 80$ easy for it. (wish I knew what happend to my old coppy)

  • the ds version has a soundtrack menu

  • im 19 and i copped this on the ds it has to be one of the best games ive ever played. frogs theme is the best to me i kept talking to the king in the castle just to here it lol

  • Sounds like something bad is about to go down, or in this case, UP!

  • Anyone who has ever played it would never say something like that.

  • Pro lols to you, sir.

  • I was playing this part today and one of my friends said she it like sounded techno music lol.

  • many people here seem to think that their immense love of chrono trigger is purely based off of nostalgia. I would vehemently disagree. I am only 15, and ever since i got this game for DS, I would eagerly stand up to declare this game one of the best, if not THE best, games of all time. The gameplay, music and storyline are absolutely astounding, especially once you get to Zeal. (music examples: this song, zeal palace, and black omen are so ominous; corridors is so elegant and beautiful)

  • I would have to agree. I remember playing it once when I was younger and didn't really like the game at all. This might be because I had rented it and never put enough time into the game. I now own the DS version and I loved playing every minute of it. The music is outstanding and I love this track along with Wings That Cross Time and Wind Scene.

  • good to see youngsters enjoying the best game ever made, even if the graphics dont/cant compete with modern stuff. I believe, without a shade of doubt, if they remade this game with remastered versions of the songs with real music, kept the characters looking true to the originals, changed nothing in the game at all except modern HD graphics, that i would actually be willing to buy a PS3 (assuming thats where it came out on). same with FFVII

  • I am almost 26, and remember when this game came out. Even in the current times, with games like Half-Life 2, and F.E.A.R, and other story based games with incredibly graphics and depth, Chrono Trigger is still rated incredibly high to me, not for the nostalgia, but for how incredible the game is. The story and gameplay are incredible even taking out the lacking graphics compared to modern gaming. And the music is some of the best ever written. Great to see new gamers appreciating fine work!

  • I'm so glad to see that new generation gamers can also appreciate great games from the past. 15 silver points for you my friend!

  • I'm the same age as you toad and i also think this is one of the best games of all time. This game is one the reasons why RPGs are the best genre of video games.

  • I agree. I first played Chrono Trigger in 2000, and that was when the 32 bit era had already taken over but Chono Trigger became one of my favorite rpgs of all time. so yeah it's definitely not just nostalgia or the time period it came out that carries this game's fun factor

  • @toadkicksyourass

played it when i was little,i remember that when i was little English was Foreign for me,but i remember that i was playing it without understanding it !

  • @expertfighter hehey me to xD i was i think 8 or 9 when i played it i loved the gameplay but unfortunatly never finished at that time ^.^; but later with little better english i was a little suprised because the game wasn't as easy as i remembered.

Than i realized i was extremaly overleveled from all that walking with hope of advancing story xD now i must say i replay Chrono trigger regulary and even my sister which doesn't like RPG or games alltogether for that matter is playing it.

  • @toadkicksyourass Um hell yeah! I remember when I used to rent this game from blockbluster in the 90s as a kid! It's still one of the best games i've ever played. :)

  • @TheBandanaFiend I did the same thing!

  • @toadkicksyourass I played this game in Christmas of 2009 on the DS, having vehemently avoided it purely on the basis of the art style since I was your age.

Ever since then, I am in agreement. This sucker is the real deal. It holds up perfectly even compared with today's standards. Square WISHES they could make a game this engrossing.

  • @toadkicksyourass i agree played this bout 15 yrs ago and it was great wish they would make a exact remake with todays graphics also nintendo needs to start makin movies how cool would it be to see mario in 3d theater on imax or even better a zelda link to the past movie plus this. They did it for ff7 why not these it would be epic

  • @toadkicksyourass zeal was so advanced, until lavos destroyed it, but then there were only like 6 humans left, in order for civilization to grow so huge agaion, i believe that something happened in year zero, and the gate at year 2300 let to the end of time because you had four people, if you only had three, that gate might have led to year zero, but thats only a theory of mine

  • @toadkicksyourass

    Agreed

  • @toadkicksyourass No, it IS the greatest game of all time. I've played it through about 20 times. A story unlike any other. This game is top notch on every level.

  • @derlich09 have you played Golden Sun1,thats games awesome

  • @Dullihan that game sucks

  • @FabulousZero It doesn't suck, but Chrono Trigger is way better.

  • @XXRavethedrummerXX id have to agree with that

  • @FabulousZero name one thing in that sucked

  • @toadkicksyourass For 15, your grammatical prowess is impressive indeed! A writer in the making, I'm sure. Digressing, yes, quite possibly the best game of all time =D
