  • that's a real nice video but i think you should change the title to "a shot of the back of people's heads"

  • I'm about to start building a Top Flite 1/7 scale P-51 D with the Cripes a Mighty 3rd color scheme. Part of the plan is to visit Fantasy of Flight over Thanksgiving and get some detail pics. I lived in MIami when Kermit had his museum there, before Andrew, and this was my favorite plane in the collection.

  • DAMN!!!!!

    That's a big head!!!!

  • Best part was covered up by that guys arm.

  • no fun looking at the back of peoples heads

  • Schmued NEVER worked for Messerschmidt. Another misconception that's been circulating since WWII. Read O'leary's book "Building the P-51". Maybe you will learn something factual.

  • The caption should read "Video of heads watching a P51 take off"!

  • The design team was actually led by Edgar Schmued, a German engineer who previously worked for Messerschmidt. Bizzare

  • Everyone knows the P51 was designed by Hirohito as a birthday present for Hitler's 50th...but the Jap sub carrying the plans to Germany accidentally got sunk by the Americans, who just happened to be doing speed trials for the Davey Crockett A-bomb in the area... the plans eventually washed up on the shore in front of Edgar Schmoe Malibu beach house......

  • Nah, the mustang isn't british. Its american. It was designed and built by NAA. Britain origonaly put in an order for a shed load of P-40's but curtaiss couldn't produce any so they turned to North American Aviation (NAA), they didn;t want to build the p-40's and told britain they could make their own better plane but based around teh same engine the p-40 used. It was built to british requirements though

  • @JimSalt88 Designed and built by British for NAA.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 People probably wont believe me but the Mustang was actually designed by the british. It was designed to fit the role of bomber escort from england and was heavily based on the german me109 which is visibly noticeable if you look at the first version of the p-51. The reason its seen as an american plane and designed by edgar is because british factories couldnt manufacture the plane due to the manufact of spits. So it was given to america and edgar to build at north american.

  • @SabootheSlag Not sure where you get your info. Read any authoritative book on the Mustang - designed AND built by a team at North American in USA led by Edgar Schmued. Please cite your reference that the Mustang was designed by the British. I doubt you can refute Robert Gruenhagen and others about this.

  • @fbenenati Basically i went to a talk in my town about P-51's flying from an airfield near me and there were about 3 aviation historians (names i cant remember) and they all said that the mustang was actually a british design. I think theres a chance i may be exaggerating but what i got from it was that it was designed by british and with north american with the me-109 in mind as that is the type of plane the british were looking to use.

  • thats a load of nonsense. The p-51's airframe is 100% American. The p-51 was designed to protect American bombers during daylight bombing raids in Germany. The p-51 did later use a licensed rolls royce engine however.

  • @NJRocks281 Its not a load of nonsense mate. It was heavily designed on the me-109. Id say it was a combined effort really of many countries. usa, Britain and even germany.

  • First of all there is no such plane as the me-109, so now I know your full of shit. Second it is an American airframe 100% indisputable fact. America produced the best airframes of the war.

  • @NJRocks281 What. No such plane as the me-109. Well i guess now we all really know whos full of shit. Messerschmidt Bf-109 known as the me-109 and also the bf-109. If you honestly didnt know that then i am genuinely surprised. Im sure you just made a mistake tho and only knew it as the bf-109 right?

  • @NJRocks281 Designed and built by the British for NAA. Powered by British Rolls Royce Merlin, aye! No ME-109?? Just google it and you'll see for yourself, mate.

  • P-51 was designed by North American to escort American B-17's into Germany. You Brits didn't even get the plane. I already admitted that we borrowed your engine.

  • @NJRocks281 I'm aussie, but the brits did get the plane and so did we. We also manufactured the p-51 in Australia. NAA can claim ownership of the design, but they hired a bunch of Poms to design it. Why is that so hard to accept? It's just a plane, man.

  • @Zeddy100 u only gotta look at ww1 the yanks were flying french an Brit built planes so its only proper and fitting that they use British commonwealth built planes in the European theatre in the second.

  • @Zeddy100 oh you are so wrong. it was designed by the americans, we just put one of the Roll Royce merlins it it which was designed by brits.

  • If that is "Cripes Amighty 3rd", it's an ex RNZAF P-51

  • @Scharfschutzen1 What are you talking about? It was a war winning plane, flew by fantastic pilots. Nothing against the British or German pilots.

  • BIG DEAL

  • That and all those steroids and amphetamines. They didn't call it "Blitzkrieg" for nothing you know.

  • Great museum recognize its runway right away. Largest private collection of aircraft if I recall correctly.

  • Who's the retard. The greatest soldatens in centuries followed a dumb ass leader into unconditional surrender. Yuk Yuk.

  • Designed by a German engineer tired of Hitler's poor managment style. Edgar is our hero because of a beautiful airplane built to "whip" Germany's butt. I wonder how Edgar felt as Germany's finest experten pilots were being shot down. The truth hurts and is a bitch all of the time for Germany.

  • lol does he say get er done at the end

  • haha yes he does!!!

  • He says: "Gear's up!"

  • Hey Scharfschutzen, how much does it suck that Germany started WW2 with the best military in the world, but they ended up getting their asses kicked anyway? Maybe they shouldn't have followed their fuckwit Nazi leadership who thought it would be a good idea to fight Britain, Russia and America AT THE SAME TIME! And yes Schmeud was a clever German - clever enough to realise he was better off in the USA. So was Einstein for that matter...

  • Truth is that it was designed by someone who wanted the Allies to win the war. Nationality of the designer doesn't matter. So what if he was born in Germany? Who cares? He designed the plane for America and that's what matters most.

  • i got that same plane as deicast . it looks so much like the real thing. onlt the end of the tail is red not gray.

  • If the tail is red, that`s the sign of "The Tuskagee Airmen". Look them up if you didn`t know about them.

  • Next time, stand on a box, so that you can hold the camera over all the heads. On the other hand, don't bother - I'll make my own video, when I go there next January.

  • Nice head at :09, lol. Great video. 4/5 *

  • One of the pilots of the Blue nosed Bastards lives not to far from me, he's a real nice guy who loves to share his WWII stories with everyone. He was featured on the History channel.

  • Thats sweet

  • Was one of those stories part of "The Legend of Y29"?

  • what an amazing aircraft!!

  • Hello

I just found this clip. To cool! I am the guy in the Cripes A Mighty shirt! Also wearing the P.B.A. hat.

    Glen

  • This is Kermit Weeks plane you can go to his place right outside of orlando FL. He flys this plane a good bit and if you catch him on the right day he'll be flying it.

  • Those Merlins sure sound sweet.

  • One of the best sound ever.

  • yep agreed, nearly as good as a spitfire

  • Mustangs are fun but I prefer the British craft along with the hulkier Jug and Lightning.

  • terrific aircraft - I have the T-shirt of the guy in the foreground ~ I also built last year CRIPES A MIGHTY 3rd 413-321 with underside invasion stripes in 1/48 Scale -

    thanks for the video !

    David

  • is that plane from the 352nd fg aka "the blue nosed bastards of bodney"

  • Forty rogers on that. Sure is.

  • I was there to see that. Most impressive. I'd love to see his Spitfire fly too.
