  • Listen, while I think Barlow is a GREAT singer he's not as good as Ripper. This isn't a very good rendition of this song but it wasn't meant for him to sing in this manner (i.e. it's a Tim Owen song all the way). Schaefer took a step backward when he went back to Barlow (my opinion) and it's unfair to expect Matt to pull off that material as well as it was originally sung.

Again, Barlow's a great singer (as a musician myself I'd be honored to jam with him) but he's simply not Ripper's equal.

  • @roguefate666 Listen to the original something wicked trilogy. And then listen to Ripper's cover of it. It doesn't compare. They are two completely different and incredibly talented singers. Comparing them is like comparing a tennis player who excels on grass to a tennis player who excels on clay courts. Both players may be phenomenal but it's unfair to compare them when one is at a severe disadvantage.

  • This song isn't written for Barlow and you hear it with every note sung. ^^

  • @Lightbringer667 All the more reason to show Barlow the respect you know he deserves!

  • 3:43 .... HOLY MOTHER AND FATHER OF BARLOW!

  • barlow = drunk paul stanley without his make up and wig

  • @hitman794 hahahaha nice

  • I think the intro scream failed...

  • I think Matt did a great job, even though his vocal range is lower than Tim's :P

  • @CompleteDistortion Yeah it is a hard song and barlow did pretty good at it

  • @CompleteDistortion

    LOL, it's not.

  • @CompleteDistortion yeah, I prefer Tim, but I don't think Tim could've done as good a job on The Crucible Of Man: Something Wicked Part 2 as Matt did

  • Tim Ripper canta pra caralho!!! Mas depois de Halford em tempos áureos... somente Matt Barlow

  • a real great vocalist]

  • watch?v=Zq1GKwUU5Lk it is so much better. Matt can actually sing this REALLY good.

  • matt barlow fail!!!

  • shit, this song sure is one of the hardest to sing from iced earth matt did a great job!

  • @rod3067 No, the hardest to sing is the original version of Iced Earth.

  • @cubby3o5 that's what i meant, i was saying matt did a great job doing tim's work, since it is in my opinion the hardest iced earth song to be sung.

  • @rod3067 And what I was saying was that Gene Adam did the vocals on that song in such a way, that no one can sing it. I have sang Ten Thousand Strong really well many times, but then I try Iced Earth and it sounds horrible, unless I sing the main verses the way Matt and Tim do and sing the medolic part the original way that Gene does it(I'm good at that part, though)

    Sorry for the long comment.

  • Matt does more good as the singer of Iced Earth than as a police officer.

  • hard to believe he had voice problems lol

  • hard as you this song, this is easier to listen to Tim Owens

  • ΕΛΛΑΔΑ ΡΕ ΜΟΥΝΙΑ!!!!! UP THE GREEK FLAG!!!! \m/

  • matt sings better than ripper for me...he knows how to sing with emotions which makes him one of the best singers...but since the song is made this way,he had to try it that way...iced earth 4ever ! We love you guys !

  • 0:19 chewbacka being stabbed with a pen in his eye

  • Great performance. Credits for even tyring to reach The Ripper's vocal range.

  • My god that growl at the end, did anyone else hear the voice of satan for a second there? :D

  • The version that Matt sing in the festivals of the wicked DVD is much better...

  • @vidmarf he was sick at this concert.

  • Comment removed

  • MY GOD!!! This song got just a little bit more balls to it (if possible). Barlow = God

  • that scream at the end WOW!

  • Comment removed

  • This song is a monster, that was co-created by the Ripper, but as some of you already said: Matt got balls to sing it in front of their fans, although it is not easy to imitate a voice, that is away from your own vocal range..I'm somehow proud of ihm!

  • Anyone who thinks Matt can't sing is high. This will always be Ripper's iconic song but my god did Matt step up to the plate.

  • It's probably the toll of the tour to, because I've seen them in the Netherlands a couple of weeks before Graspop... and he did this song almost perfect, especially the ripper scream at the beginning.

  • i prefer matt; ripper is good but matt is a legend.

  • fucking awesome high note at the beginning, BARLOW RULES!

  • not a bad try but Its not the ripper. I love how they kicked out the ripper only to have him leave a few years later.

  • BARLOW WHY YOU LEAVE ICED EARTH THE METAL FANS WE NEED YOU,( BECAUSE HIM FUCKING WIFE....=( )

  • To be able to sing this song right, just the same Tim Ripper Owens

  • Barlow sounds like the bowels of hell opening

  • Owned by Ripper. Nice attempt though.

  • Maybe Tim can get that higher pitch but Matt just has nicer colour of the voice. It has like more volume or some shit... My opinion...

  • I personally think that ripper is a little better vocalist than barlow, but barlow is better for iced earth.

  • wow matt barlow did a really good cover =O HE ALMOST NAILED THE SCREAMS!!

which is fully understandable, the ripper has more controll over his pitch range even when the rippers intro is more of a scream and barlows more of a screach.. Its hard to explain.. but either way, still a fucking epic cover!

  • As much as I love Matt this song is definately one for the Ripper. I do like how he sounds on the chorus though! :)

  • Both singers are great, and each has his own style of singing,so you,who are comparing them, are idiots. Whole sound of the band is much better here than on Wacken 2007,so stop talking shit like "Tim is bad,Barlow owns" and stuff. I'd like to hear them perfom this together,I'm sure they would own every singers ass.

  • @Adrian92Smith i totally agree dude both had their own music within iced earth both were great both performed their own music better but thats their symbols within iced earth both are great and both deserve respect

  • Great song!!! Favorite live!!! Greetings from Greece!!!

  • It's funny, everyone says, that Matt can't deal with this song like Ripper, but as I saw the video 2007 on Wacken I thought wtf? Matt can sing this song alot better live, than Ripper!

  • R.I.P. Matt's Hair…

  • Rob Halford's Son lol

  • Fucking Matt Barlow mother fuckers!!!

  • What an amazing effort.

  • Thumbs up to the dude with the Greek flag. Iced Earth's most devoted fans! :P

We love ya guys. Come again!!

  • @StormbringerRuler

Greece is such a fucking metal country i run an indie label out of canada and i had a label in greece buy 450 copies of 1 album off me it was fucking nuts

  • Well for as low as he usually, thats good, it just has the iced earth feel to the song with him singing

I dont study iced earth much, but the singing was way diffrent in this album, i know why now xD

  • I miss the matt's hair.

  • I like how, at the end, the final "Seize the daaaaaaaaaaaay" his face is all, "Fuck it. I'm gonna shriek like I never have before, in three, two, one..."

  • he needs hair!!!! :(

  • should do it in his own style not trying to hit mega high notes like TIm

  • This is Tim's Song, very bad vocals, especcially the verses........

  • @leikermoser07

Yeah, they really should just not have Barlow sing any of Ripper's songs, he just butchers them.

  • @NecroNikolai13 Well you can't expect a guy who actually has a pair to sing like Ripper.... That's doesn't mean that ripper doesn't have nuts, just that he can scream like he doesn't.

  • Yeah, Barlow shouldn't sing this.

I prefer Barlow over Owens ten times over, but this is Owens' song.

  • OMG, this is awful. Barlow sounds like amateur singer.

  • @fiqschmar You're fucking retarded!

  • @XxXxTomArayaxXxX No. You are deaf!

  • @fiqschmar I wish I could beat up your retarded ass!

  • @XxXxTomArayaxXxX You wish, but you can't. Because you are cripple.

  • @fiqschmar No it's because I live in other country, you're fag!

  • @XxXxTomArayaxXxX Fags are you and your lover Matthew. Do you kissing each other?

  • @fiqschmar Matt Barlow is not an amateur singer, he's considered to be one of the best metal singers by many people. So this song is not his strong point, but for a new song to him, and after years out of doing live performances, this is an awesome attempt and if you here his newer takes at the song, I would consider him better than Ripper at it!

  • this is one of the best songs to come out of the ripper years, but its irresponsible to have barlow singing it. The simple fact of the matter is it was written for a tenor and barlow is baritone. You can hurt your voice trying to sing stuff that doesn't match your voice type. And before anyone tells me to fuck myself, you should realize that the vocal cords, just like any other body part, can be damaged if you force them to do something they just aren't suited to do.

  • @raythetse is BARLOW baritone? 0r is he tenor? - he has such a wide range. thats whats so awesome about him.

  • @ThePower2MEtal He's baritone. Voice type has less to do with range and more to do with thickness of tone and agility. For a lower voice to try to be so agile in the upper registers is generally not a good idea.

  • @raythetse that would apply to human beings, but BARLOW is a god that will melt the face off of any man within a ten mile radius......Barlow = Bass Baritone Tenor (takes balls to perform this Tim Ripper song)

  • @ThePower2MEtal Yeah, well back in reality he is a human being with an awesome voice that he ought to be responsible with so that it stays awesome for the foreseeable future.

  • @raythetse FUCK REALITY. THIS IS METAL!!

  • @raythetse I don't think he would in any way ruin his voice doing this song, he did Dracula perfectly which is also a very hard song for him to sing.

  • @DavidKinner I listened to the dracula performance of the same show and its quite clear to me it was less than perfect.

  • @raythetse How is something that sounds almost exactly the same as the album less than perfect?

  • @DavidKinner If you think that it sounds almost the same as the album, you clearly need to get your ears checked. His voice breaks many times, his tone is much weaker, he has to take breaths much more often, and he has trouble with pitch in many places.

  • @raythetse fuck yourself :D tenors and baritons are vocal types for classic music not for modern music...and this song has a range that theorically goes from a baritone to a mezzosoprano scuro range ;)

  • @dades92 Ehm its still relevant you know. It has to do with your tessitura and colour and not your extended range. Its the base. And its what you are working with. And if a baritone can reach high notes like Barlow then thats just awesome.

  • @dades92 Sorry, but vocal types still apply to singing styles other than classical. Ignoring this fact will often cost a singer hi/her voice.

  • matt has even rob halford going....."whuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?"

    lol

  • @ThePower2Metal...You might consider that yours is not the only opinion on the subject. So you love Barlow. Good for you. I happen to think Iced Earth is completely unlistenable with him as vocalist. Love the music. Hate the vocals. And I believe I'm allowed that opinion. You also might consider not making death threats that can be viewed by pretty much anyone and printed out as evidence of said threat. You've just broken the law. Evidence is here and in print. Think on that.

  • @kevgk BARLOW > RIPPER, just watch 'declaration day' live. barlow seriously kicks some ass there

  • @kevgk Well its a pretty wierd opinion I mean. How can you not like.....I just dont get people sometimes. Maybe its because I dont really hate any singer. But Barlow just sounds majestic.

Not matter how high or triumphant he goes it always sounds soulful. Even when his voice breaks it sounds soulful.

Take Tim in the unplugged version of When the eagle cries. He just doesnt have the depth and smoothness of Barlow. Also his high notes makes him sound like an excited cockatoo.

  • @PennyDreadful1 It isn't that weird really. We like what we like. I think with Ripper Owens, Iced Earth was one of the best bands in American metal, maybe in all of metal. I think the riffing is incredible. I just don't like Barlow as a singer. And I think he will always hold Iced Earth back. Its a shame, really. But that is just my opinion. If you like it as it is now, cool. I'm happy to listen to other, better stuff.

  • oh, I know it. changes nothing.

  • @kevgk ive heard less annoying sounds come out of dentist's operation room than from tim ripper owens. - if you ever denounce BARLOW again i will kill you < and i dont mean that figuritivly, i will clench your thought until you stop struggling (maintaining eye contact the entire time). - while i brutally murder you, i will blast ICED EARTH( with barlow) -most likely 'the coming curse" - oh and F**k you!

  • @ThePower2MEtal *throat* not thought

  • matt reaches A# in the end... ripper who.

  • Iced Earth should do a Days of Purgatory 2 with songs of the glorious burden and framing armageddon

  • Comment removed

  • @LordEmpirus It's because of the gift of God, music education, lot of practicing, and very emotive soul... and veeeeeeeeeery biiiiiiiiiiiiig baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalls to do that! :)

  • This guy's a hack compared to Ripper Owens. Seriously, Iced Earth completely crapped the bed when they let him go. This guy sucks.

  • @kevgk You do know that he's the most prominent vocalist for the band, right?

  • What's with the arguments? Can we all agree that Ripper does Ripper better and Barlow sounds better as Barlow? C'mon people.

  • @dabears530 I completely agree. Both have very different voices.

  • Barlow > Ripper.

  • HELL YEA MAN ... GREEK FLAG IN THE ARENA!! We respect ICED EARTH very much .. thanks for the Alive in Athens back then guys :) love from greece

  • not bad Matt did a good job on this song keep up the good work

  • 7 people will get their nads ripped off by santa.

  • This is Basically the same Thing that happened to Maiden

    Bruce can't sing Di'Anno Songs

Matt Can't Sing "Ripper" Owens Songs

  • @agentcamo I completely disagree I think that Bruce sings Di'Anno songs better than Di'Anno!

  • I like both Barlow and Ripper...but,Ripper did better on this sing...so did Barlow in his Iced Earth-era (which goes on...:D)

  • Barlow, the best

    Pica das Galáxias !!!

  • Didn't see them then because i was looking for my friend, but this year i will, it's gonna be awesome!

  • The chorus sounds fucking awesome! Grand as shit!

  • Look, I've been a singer to 22 years and the only thing you can do is write songs that dont kill your voice live to avoid this--or dont perform the song live. This one song can ruin a tour. The other thing you can do is make sure your band can sing and pickup some parts so you can recover.

All this infantile BS between the 2 singers fans is just laughable. Grow up little kiddies

  • matthew barlow rulezzz o/

  • I give Matt a lot of credit for this song. It's definitely a song that was wrote around Tim's voice. Matt still did an awesome job on the choruses and still a respectable job on the verses. as NikoZombie said before, Matt simply has a lot of balls to even attempt such a powerful, draining song in front of God knows how many people

  • @thunderrx91 totally dude this isnt even Matts style, but he did a great job/ so happy that hes back! long live ICED EARTH

  • @thunderrx91 as he saud in the begining he raised his voice loud and proud

  • @thunderrx91 and with a sinus infection haha

  • barlow is great because he had the balls to sing this song

  • @NikoZombie this man just knows what he is doing :-)

  • ....Barlow is Iced Earth.....but i think at this song Ripper's better....

  • @hsmetalhead I can agree with you on that. Though this is right after he came back from that hiatus. He sounds like he's got a bit of rust to be honest.

  • this is amazing

  • 6 people will not sieze the day!!!!!

  • wow. they suck live.

  • @111whitepony111

    I agree

  • i don't what anyone says but Barlow is the only singer for iced earth!!!!

  • ripper honestly kill this song.. not doggin on barlow.. but let me see barlow do some diamond lol ripper owned abigail

  • Barlow is not as impressive as Ripper on this song but u would be a damn fool to say he sux that is really high screaming he did a great job

  • I liked Rippers era on Iced Earth but I am glad that Matt is back. The rerecordings with Matt on vocals just sounded better to me. Just something about Matts voice with Schaffers guitars it just blends better than with Ripper. I hope Iced Earth puts out another dvd with a big crowd like this and cool pyro! That would be awesome!

  • hahaaaha no one can compare to the ripper

  • @powerslaver6 And no one can compare to Barlow on his songs.

    Barlow owns his shit.

    Ripper owns his shit.

  • @MAG0T yea

  • haa his high notes have no balls or power'' just' like his ripper'''' cover of priest'' what a fucking joke''''''''''''''' ripper owns''''' fuck off

  • Poor matt look at his face!

  • tim and matt - they are equally skilled singers but they are singing in completely different octaves.

only the special skill "metal screams" could be used to compare tohse two singers, but this is nothing more like sports or a circus trick in music from my point of view.

  • A faaaar cry from what Tim did on this song. While Iced Earth reuniting with Matt might have been a good thing in a lot of people's eyes, Ripper is the better singer--hands down. Plus, that sounds like Ripper's recorded vocals in the background during the chorus. Just sayin'...!

  • Matt has a good voice but tim does better on this album..noone can never beat tim!

  • heard jon wanted to re-record framing arma with matts vocals

  • Ela re elliniki simaia??? Pame mwri arrwstia!!!! Greeks are everywhere reeeeeeeee

  • Roijas, I will have to agree with you then. Good point.

  • he is about 10% to his abilities in this song, good one tho!

  • Sure the Scream sounded okay but as for the rest of the song he struggled to keep up with the standard that The Ripper Owens set for the song. In my opinion Ripper's an all around better singer.

  • @dragstrip007 Ripper isn't all around better, they just can't sing each other's songs. I heard Ripper try Dracula, wasn't for him,j ust as Ten Thousand Strong isn't for Barlow. I saw them a year or so ago when Barlow came back, he attempted some Glorious Burden songs, he did good, but again, that's Ripper's. Saw them when Glorious Burden was first released, can't remember what songs Ripper did but, I do know the only ones that stick to memory were the ones from Glorious Burden.

  • Wow! i havent listen to much to this band before. Im suprised how the singer can go from very deep growling-like voice to real power metal voice!

    Very impressive!

  • Matt should grow his hair back!

  • @DeathOfWar55 Dont think his chief of police would like that ;)

  • Matt's belting has seriously always amazed me. Dickinson and Barlow are my two favorite metal singers of all time, just because they sound so DIFFERENT than the other singers. The sad thing is, I can sound like neither of them lol. Gotta keep trying.

  • Matt's beginning scream was higher than Ripper's! :D

  • the sound quality of this isnt the best..also i met the band on this tour Matt Barlow was sicker than a dog for the duration of this tour, and he still owns Ripper on this..Ripper is NOT a vocalist hes a jackass who can howl..HE cant even sing this live..ever listen to him butcher meloncholy..."look at DA pain aroun meh.." as a man whos job is lyrics and only thing he has is his voice you'd think he'd take the time to enunciate his words properly....

  • I don't know why people are saying that Barlow sounds bad on this track when Ripper sounds just as bad AND uses thin head voice whereas Barlow is using chest.

  • @GameJourney FINALLY someone who know what the shit they are talking about :]

  • @GameJourney Matt was sick here so it doesn't really showcase him like it should.

  • @GameJourney

Ummm.... how about just as "good", you dick?

  • @Krow83 Umm... Okay. I quite enjoy the insecure people who use the internet to spew insults at people whom they know they will never meet. It's hilarious.

  • @GameJourney

How was that an insult? You said Ripper was just as bad at this song as Barlow. And judging from your respect for Barlow, I doubt that's what you truly mean. All I'm saying is, I think just as "good" would've been a better choice of words.

  • @Krow83 This is stupid as hell.

  • @GameJourney

Yeah, your comments was too. As a BIG supported of Ripper, you expected no one to say anything?

  • @GameJourney if you notice he's having a really hard time singing this one, compared to songs which where originally written for his voice....

  • @GameJourney Also, Ripper sounds way too "synthetic" in studio songs, you can tell by his live performance, it sucks :/

  • I like Matt's singing voice more than Tims somehow, but Matt has serious trouble with this song.. I guess they're both awesome in how they sing, it's just two different styles and characters. Maybe Matt should try to sing the song an octave lower or something, I have no idea but sometimes it's a bit painful ;-)

  • Matt Barlow is great but this song belongs to Ripper Owens

  • @cnetboss Matt's scream in the intro is a helluva lot better than the ripper. Of course it wasn't as graceful as the ripper, but I think he pulled it off great despite battling a sinus problem.

  • i have the utmost respect for both tim and matt but this is a song written with tim in mind. to struggle like matt is (looks like he is about to do the biggest shit in history), just goes to show that everyone is human. he can sing some of tim's songs but not all. tim can sing some of matt's songs but not all well. iced earth have been blessed to have both talents join their ranks.

wish both could have stayed on for epic duet stuff

hail to tim. hail to matt

  • What a voice @ 3:44 ... damn.

  • The Opening verses sound really bad with Barlow, although I actually preffer him over Owens when the chorus kicks in. Just me.

  • Lol matt barlow is amazing....but i think they should leave this song off the set list, his voice aint anywhere near high enough lmao

  • OMFG....TERRIBLE VERSION!!!...BARLOW SOUNDS LIKE SHITTING IN THIS SONG!!!

  • Je su ssssssssssssssss OO !!! Barlon not is Ripper! Terrible version

  • is this barlow?

  • omg i jizzed in my pants. zalig liedje jammer dat ze niet nog es naar graspop komen van de jaar

  • if u like iced earth search promitheos and check out the new incredible video ten thousand strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
