  • I hate when people rag on Shawn for not looking like a ballerina. The Code of Points, both in 2008 and now, does not reward artistry the way it did back in the 1980s, 1970s or 1960s. It rewards very-high level skills - the more the better. If the COP rewarded artistry, then gymnasts obviously flock to ballet classes and pay much more attention to choreography. Should we denigrate gymnasts for working according to what the COP rewards most?

  • GAWD DAMN .. That looked so hard . DX I wuld've been dead trying to do any of these flips .

  • amazing

  • wow shawn is so amazing... and so cute! lol what a baby face

  • I hope she's on the US team in London this Summer. I'm an amateur fan but she's a delight to watch perform.

  • @sweeneysdominatrix I know, she always has such a pleasant look on her face, and that's hard to do when you are doing something this difficult. So far, she seems to be in nearly as good of form as she was in Beijing. Fingers crossed!

  • Nastia shouldn't be on the podium

  • she doesnt have to stick it because look how much she doesnt give away to the judges. Most people screwed up on their full spins. And she had one of the highest start values in this final so she can afford to take a step back because look how much she gives away to the judges. Practically nothing. She had a minor flicker on her layout, her step back, and if want to be really harsh you can deduct for her switch leap which was perfectly fine. So thats probably .2 to .3 in deductions

  • Its still soooo amazing on how Shawn won gold even with the flu imagine if she had all her strength

  • i love love love her leo!

  • very strong looking physique.

  • nastia should win

  • nostalgia

  • I like that routine so much

  • this is just perfection

  • wow her spin was really good

  • true.. nastia is fluid.. and shawn is more robotic.,.. she's still a great gymnastic tho

  • SHE IS AMAZING!!!! I really wish people would stop criticizing her! she went to the OLYMPICS unlike them. it seriously irritates me. >:(

  • it looks like a half-half not a full in

  • Bah blah oh no Shawn can't stick a G dismount. All I know is that if I was Shawn johnson and I could get a full in off beam to my feet, I wouldn't care if I took a step, I would throw that skill.

  • I think why she can't quite stick her dismount is because of nerves. She does an excellent job though. Its not easy at all. People try to play the card well I know I could never do that but still blah blah blah. You really don't know how tough it is until you really try it.

  • so cool :D

  • what is the name of that element? 0:19

  • @javito1229 a standing full twist ( a back tuck with a 1/1 rotation)

  • I train at WOGA and i must say this girl has power. Good thing we have Rebecca Bross for 2012! Go American Gymnastics!

  • @mota080808 Did you seriously just say that right after her injury?

  • @nicki446 um, I've seen her stick it in competition..

  • she belongs up there

  • she's great (clearly) but I'd like to see Shawn once, just ONCE stick that dismount. Yes it's incredibly hard but it is possible to hit it - Shannon Miller used to consistently stick full-ins from beam, as did Catalina Ponor. Why have a skill in the routine that she can never get right?

  • @nicki446 Catalina's form and landings were incredibly low and ugly. Miller had even ugly form and cheated her rotation dangerously.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 I wasn't talking about the form. I just really, really, really hate that step back she always takes, without fail. I have never seen her stick that dismount, ever. Her form is great in the air, yes, but she needs to stick.

  • @nicki446 Most people don't stick G skills. Johnson's the only person to have ever stuck a double double on floor, I believe. She doesn't need to stick. A step is only .1 off. At a Jesolo meet, Johnson had a tiny hop once.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 nup Cheng Fei sticks double doubles, as did Zamolodchikova and Priakhina (with the old code allowing a step back to be called a stick). Sticking a landing IS important. A tenth off is actually quite huge!

  • @nicki446 That's true, (Priakhina was amazing), but I am referring to having no step or hop. I prefer a lunge back for grace. And one tenth isn't too big. Nastia won by 6 tenths in Beijing and the Chinese team won by about 2 points. Although, the Russians last year only won by 2 tenths.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 look I hate having lengthy discussions with others on youtube, so I'll stop here. I just really despise it when gymnasts compete the same move always with the same error. It's not about how difficult the move is (heck, I could never do that), but clean routines should be the aim. If Shawn were to stick her dismounts without that step, then she would consistently get that extra tenth! And it would be like having an extra tenth on her start value! I think that's important.

  • @nicki446 Of course. But Johnson makes up for it in her form and her good technique. Landings aren't the only parts of execution.

  • @nicki446 She doesnt really have to stick that dismount because she hit everything and got a 7.0 start value. Plus, honestly, how much does she give away to the judges? Almost nothing, but the judges found over .8 in deductions which i find really stupid. Most people screwed up on their full spins. Shawn practically gives nothing away to the judges here so a step back for her wont cost her that much because of her high start value and her great execution form.

  • she's good but it's kinda gross that the beam champion can't even do a split properly

  • @yiudiumui i cant hit a split properly, and my best piece of aperatus is beam... its not all about fleixibility mind, she obviously has enough skill to be able to go without doing the split, if she cant hit split, she would have had marks taken off, but the fact she could afford to do that and still win beam is amazing.. imagine the score she would've had if she could reach split in every move including split she could do.

  • Yes, you could say the Americans do not have the same type of elegancy as other gymnast do through out the world but they have been dominating the gymnastic world since 2004 so i think you should rethink before you say anything. they might need more dance elemnts in their floor routines but they are spot on in the performance, hitting every element perfectly!

  • score?

  • @romonabruno 16.225

  • i hate it whent the announcers say "bang on" ugh shut up!

  • Wow she actually hit her splits and really held on to that full turn. Amazing work!

  • Whoever said that americans have no beauty needs to fuck off, get a life u hater would love to see what u look like?

  • I think the 2 people who dislike that video don't really like the video . I think they just wanted to see what it feels to dislike the video because you just CAN NOT not like the Video ... I mean this is the beautifulest routine i've ever seen on that beam !! She sticks Everything !! This is just ...... beautiful !

  • Comment removed

  • I trained with Shawn & Chow last summer and they are both amazing people, friends for life, luv the video. Liv xxxx

  • REMINDER: Americans athletes care about scoring points and not falling...to win. It's all about winning, not about how ungraceful and brutish it looks. Even in figure skating!

  • i like people who "dislike" videos acting like they're elite gymnasts and they're the ones who went to the olympics. Shawn Johnson is an awesome athlete and can flip circles around everyone (which she did since she won gold). Granted she isn't as flexible as Nastia but still she's great.....

  • @atomicchick06 Amen to that.

  • i remember i was so happy when i watched her win this medal and didnt she stick that dismount in qualifications

  • elite gymnasts dont NEED 2 be artistic the judges r juss lookin 4 the skills soo don't be mean bout them cause u r juss jealous!

  • @gymnastsallthetime Not true. Artistic gymnasts are very successful. Nastia was. Shawn is power, obviously.

  • @gymnastsallthetime If elite gymnasts didn't need to be artistic, then it would never be called "ARTISTIC gymnastics" Shawn is great, but if she could work her flexibility more I would really go for her.

  • @gymnastsallthetime ya kind a its called women artistic gymnastics and what jealousy most commenters where elite gymnast

  • I don't like amercan gymnasts. Yes, they do great acrobatic, but where is beauty, where is elegance? Only Nstya Lukin was good.

  • @slavaro1992 If you think Nastia Liukin is the only good gymnast in the USA team, why did Shawn Johnson win the Gold and not Nastia? And the American gymnasts are the fucking most beautiful gymnasts, like Samantha Peszek, Shawn Johnson, Chellsie Memmel and NASTIA LIUKIN. I don't see why you think they lack beauty, maybe it's your weed.

  • @ChellsieWeLoveYou I said American gymnasts haven't elegance and grace and it's true. They do acrobatics and... that's all. Jump, stick, jump, stick and so on. Nothing from woman. Look at Liukin, Khorkina, Boginskaya, Komanechi, Mustafina, Pavlova, Izbasa, Porgras, even Cheng Fei. They looks perfect, elegant. I don't want to talk about appearence. Yes, some of them are cute girls. But they haven't beauty in presentation. But it's an ARTSTIC gymnastics. And gymnasts should have it.

  • awesome acrobatic skills - robotic tho and not in the least bit artistic !

  • i love shawn she is awwsome how she does it its unbelievable !!

  • Such a clutch performance. She was completely deserving of this gold.
