I cry every single time. Seabiscuit isn't just a horse. He's a best friend towards his owners, his fellow horses and even his greatest enemies. He's a beautiful horse who doesn't give up, even when his life and owners give up on him. He trusts in his instincts, and he always does his best, whatever the outcome. Even though he's a fictional horse, I look up to him, because I choose to.
@MrThemutsnuts Plus Red Rum suffered from laminitis most of his life and if he hadn't gone to Ginger McCain at Southport to be trained on the beach there, he'd probably never have been the horse he was. He started off in 5 furlong sprints as a 2yo & ended up winning over 4 & a half miles up until the age of 12 (usually carrying top weight). A real rags-to-riches story was our Red Rum, he was Britain's 'Seabiscuit'.
The Americans believe that outside the U.S. borders there is a huge expanse of lifeless desert. If an American horse wins in USA, it automatically becomes the best in the world. Out of your Truman Show, everyone knows:The best jockey of all time is the Italian FRANKIE DETTORI .The best trotter of all time is the Italian "VARENNE". The best horse of all time (gallop) is the Italian "RIBOT". Secretariat is a great horse, but is not sufficient to make a recod of time to be the best. Read Wikipedia
I have no interest in horse racing but great stories transcend their subject and this is the most beautiful and inspiring film I've ever seen. George's gesture of support in this scene, and the line "Have a nice ride, Johnny" choke me every time I see it. I couldn't care less about accusations of doping or over-dramatisation. It's a movie not a documentary, and it makes me glad to be alive.
The HGH Biscuit was hopped up on really worked! Yes, allegations have been made that Seabiscuit was administered horse growth hormones and other drugs by Smith and Pollard. Smith was actually busted for drugging a later horse and suspended for a year. I mean, Biscuit wins little as a colt (when greats usually do) and then suddenly starts kicking butt under Smith - this just doesn't happen. It was observed that he looked bigger at the Anita in 1940, and he died much younger than most racers.
I couldn't believe this was real until I read the book after I watched the movie and realised that this is history, not some Hollywood plot. Such an inspirational film and story.
Love this race even more than the one against War Admiral. Something about his friend slowing down to come back and help him just makes it a really sweet.
Wow, Seabiscuit pulled off a Big Red!

@xLightningbolt that's Hollywood for you,Seabiscuit was never worse than fourth in this race but that wouldn't be so dramatic would it?
