This number has come from politically independent organizations whose job is to calculate the number of civilian deaths in wars. And they have been deemed as reliable by most experts. And even if it was 80,000, do you think that the blood of 3000 killed in the WTC is more worth than that of 80,000?
first of all you should either take back your claim of 700,000 people or you should say exactly who these independent people are! The 80,000 number I said is from "Iraq Body Count" who is so anti-american and everybody knows that the casulties are far less than this. Second you cannot compare WTC with Iraq. Thoes were killed in WTC were all innocence murdered by Al Qaieda and yet most of thoes iraqis who are killed in Iraq are again victims of AL Qaida brutality. The issue of oil you raised is very amazing to me. I don't know how one may conclude that spending all these money was because of oil, this is just too unacceptable. The war Iraq initiated for reasons so more important than oil and I really wonder if oil was included in them, not for sure. The info wasn't from Fox or CNN. It was televised for the first week after 9/11 and then disappeared. BBC is a reportable source as is MPR and this same info came from them. This has nothing to do with them being alive or dead. It has everything to do with where the terrorism of 9/11 originated. Do you not think it has something to with Saudi Arabia's connection with the USA? Iraq was an illegal war and invasion. Is Osama bin Laden from Saudi Arabia? Yes and was funded originally by the USA.

Sean Penn visits a mass murderer in Iraq (Saddam, remember him???) and publicly voices support for his murderous regime: then he has the balls to turn around and voice his disdain for the Bush administration who removed him from power!!!! This makes Sean Penn's position clear... he simply hates America and will stop at nothing to badmouth this country!

fe254254 - what about the atrocities that the US government funds on international soil, such as Guantanamo Bay? They have tortured many terrorists using means that break international laws and have come to the conclusion that several of these supposed "terrorists" were not in fact "terrorists" and consequently set free.
Since the US is breaking international laws, does this not in turn make George Bush and his administration a group of terrorists? Maybe GWB isn't the best judge of terrorism.

these are just some beautiful words, useful for a speech by hollywood stars, the reality is different, the evil was real in Iraq and afghanistan and thanks to the US led operations now at least thoes people have hope of a better future. I don't deny the mistakes happened during theses years but really it is not as dark as sean is describing. these words are just a slap in the face of the families who lost loved ones in action in hope of the freedom.

This number has come from politically independent organizations whose job is to calculate the number of civilian deaths in wars. And they have been deemed as reliable by most experts. And even if it was 80,000, do you think that the blood of 3000 killed in the WTC is more worth than that of 80,000?

first of all you should either take back your claim of 700,000 people or you should say exactly who these independent people are! The 80,000 number I said is from "Iraq Body Count" who is so anti-american and everybody knows that the casulties are far less than this. You should name thoes experts and perhaps direct me to their site. And I expect you to understand what 700,000 when you claim it.

Second you cannot compare WTC with Iraq. Thoes were killed in WTC were all innocence murdered by Al Qaieda and yet most of thoes iraqis who are killed in Iraq are again victims of AL Qaida brutality. The number of those who were killed by US forces by mistake is relatively small. And again I should emphasize that even if we agree on this 80,000 people most of them are the victims of Al Qaieda itself. Conclusion nobody said American lives are worth more than Iraqis.

Second the problem with you guys is that when a terrorist explode himself you count the bodies as the deaths caused by the US, however it is not fair and they should be counted as the murders of the savage terrorists.
You should really change your way of thinking. You think that for example Iraq was calm country and everybody lived in peace under the tyranny of Saddam. It is a hypothesis so false.

Fe25 - Those terrorists were not there before the U.S. invasion. It's because your invasion/occupation of Iraq that there are terrorists and others killing each other! First of all I should ask you where in my post I used the phrase "our troops". However again you're wrong. None of you reasoning makes sense. The problem with you is that you don't consider Saddam himself as a terrorist. However HE WAS. The fact that he ruled the government and he had established a dictatorship does not imply that he is leader not terrorist. Saddam publicly support and encourage the terrorist attacks and suicide bombing in Israel and he was an obstacle to peace process.

His government terrorized 27M people and kept them captive in nationwide prison. The discovered torture chambers after his overthrown is evidence to what I say. This is a war on terror and seeks the terrorist no matter what they position is. If you say he was not terrorist then go and talk with some exiled Iraqis please. Al Qida did not rule Iraq, and those who did rule in Iraq were put there by the CIA, and supported by the U.S.A.! For your knowledge, the operations in Iraq resumed in Clinton presidency after the first Gulf war. However, as the president of US elected through an open and democratic election, he is responsible to confront the dangers facing the American people wherever it is. This is in fact the part of his duties which you call "judge in the case of terrorism".

The issue of oil you raised is very amazing to me. I don't know how one may conclude that spending all these money was because of oil, this is just too unacceptable. The war Iraq initiated for reasons so more important than oil and I really wonder if oil was included in them, not for sure. Although some of the reasons turned to be untrue, still I believe we can expect a safer world after fallen Saddam's dictatorship.

Yes it is, because oil is what powers a "stable" economy and is one of the most important resources in our world. You will see that people are already marking their territory by buying terrain near lakes, rivers and other water sources which are next in the to-do list. The excuses for the war were masking the personal problem between Mr. Bush and YouKnowWho. Who you you may or may not know were partners. If american people like war, then they should vote for Bush.

I am not sure which surveys you are referring, still I'm waiting for the source of those 700,000 casualties, but no doubt the free Europe owes so much to the sacrifice the US did. In fact when I look back to the history, there are many mistakes I see, but still I realize that our world is safer because of so many actions the US took during history.

sean penn is kind of an angry guy..he's a hollywood idealist and speaks from his own brnad of ivory tower. He's an overpaid actor with a lot of free time on his hands. I question how loyal he really is. BTW if you saw 60 minutes last week, sadamm hussein was proven to have had WMDS at one time and a defined goal of making more WMDS. He was dangerous and he had to be taken out.
