  • Few questions, guys.... How do we stop the car? Start the car? How much water do we need in every refill? How to refill? How often? How much gas do we need? How often? How to refuel? Hope you guys are willing to share. really curious!!!!!!!

  • I heard that Stanleys don't have any brake!!!! How do we stop, then?

  • "Yeah! Hi! My names Tim. My car broke down and I need to have it towed to a dry cleaners to get fixed... Hello??! Hello?"

  • awesome cool as heck and cool beans hahaha

  • that is the coolest horn ever. period.

  • There are two gauges: The right hand shows the pressure of the steam in the boiler. 250-500PSI is the norm. The left hand one shows the gas pressure. Gasoline had to be pumped into the boiler when fired and 150 pounds (if I remember correctly) is the desired pressure.

  • We need this technology today to get rid of our dependance on oil.

  • @conifergreen While I certainly agree that we need to stop our dependence on oil, the way the steam is heated: A gas fired boiler.

  • Where can I buy steam ?

My gas station only sells gas.

  • but will it blend?

  • From the inside view looking out, to me if feels like it would not STOP quick if you needed to stop.

    .

A little scary driving on real roads, with modern cars.

    .

As of this post 100 year old car, thanks for posting this video ..

  • the 1908 ford model t got 25 miles per gallon. i think the new cars are a rip

  • @muncleike For all the weight savings that modern materials afford auto design, they completely negate it with safety features, because those safety features are heavier than the weight savings the modern materials give you.

A good example of this is the 1965 mustang vs the 2010 mustang GT. The 1965 mustang is only around 2700lbs with a V8, less with the inline six. And the 2010 mustang GT with a V8 is close to 4000lbs!

  • the 1911 button makes it much more fun lmao

  • it was probably amazing to drive with this thing back then...

  • way better with 1911 option

  • i could run faster than that car.

  • So what do you burn to heat the water and make steam?

  • @chairde Gasoline

  • @Hartfordland Really, I thought they might have used kerosine

  • 1911 to 2007 Yeah, uhm, 97 years, well, cool.

  • You have to play this video with the 1911 thing on. Fits perfectly! haha

  • Sounds like a train.

  • The youtube 1911 thing on this is epic xD

  • this is so cool

  • Wow that is awesome. I really want one. I would drive that thing all day

  • This is better to watch in 1911 mode!!

  • what is the fuel source that heats the water to steam?

  • That's just pure awesome.

    -

  • pretty kewl

  • If this burns coal and pollutes a lot I would bay one.

  • THATS THE FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY CAR UNTIL OIL CAME IN AND DESTROYED EVERYTHING.

  • @vivaamerica2011 these engine were power essentially by oil and they did it less efficiently.

  • Amazing O_o i think everyone aprreciates human technology now

  • Yo need to run in this McLaren:)

  • wth!!??

  • -----S'êeking'Wêálthy. C'óM ------it's the most effective site in the world to connect with, date and marry successful, beautiful people.-Meanwhile, . It's worthy a try. You do not have to be rich or famous.

    ----

  • Damn am i really that high fuck aprils fools shit is annyoing

  • @QualityGamersCinema You can control it by turning it on or off.

  • Producing a modern version of this would be an excellent idea. It could burn propane or Natural gas and would be as clean as a modern Propane or Natural Gas powered Forklift Truck.

  • people that can't even figure out how to drive a stick shift need not apply!

  • YEP!! It is too bad we could not have modernized and mass produced that one. Just imagine all the possibilities!!

  • That's one NICE Stanley!!! I love the green color and the silver trim on the gauges.

  • Does it have gears!?

  • @SMGJohn The output gear of the steam engine actually drives the "ring" gear in the rear axle so technically, yes, it has gears but none that change ratio while driving.

  • @SMGJohn voetom is right...if want more power/speed its a matter of feeding more steam to the drive

  • That was filmed on my birthday.....

  • wish we all drove steam cars.

  • I want one. .___.

If they made a modern, more areodynamic one for cheap, I'm buy it! xD

  • only 5 stanley steamers were made.

  • No stanley made thousands mabay 5 of this model but they made a lot.

  • Wow, amazing that that thing is almost 100 years old!

They should make steam cars that run off of biomass, there's your green energy!

  • I heard somewhere that stanley steamers gould get top speeds of 100 m.p.h. Is this true, and what is the top speed of the one in this video? Also, how well did they do on "primative" roads? How about in snow conditions? How does cold weather affect their performance?

  • Fastest stanley steamer was 127MPH and snow doesn't do much but take longer to heat up the water.

  • great car

  • ...it accelerates pretty good too. 500 PSI holy cow, I'm not sure I want to drive next to it tho : )

  • OUTSTANDING! I just love the sound too. Seeing this make my diesel truck videos very boring. First class videos!!!

  • this is THE most beautiful car i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!! if only there wern't so many modern cars on the road to distroy the atmosphere...

anyway thanks for the ride man!

p.s i want one i want one i want one i want one i want one i want one i want one...

  • that is the most beautiful horn ever! EVER!!!!

  • Cool but wat fuel is used to heat the water, and where does the combustion take place for this?

  • I enjoyed the documentary style of riding in your steamer. Thousands have now taken a 'virtual ride' in your steam coach.

  • Wish it was back here and we could take much longer ride around the city but it is now in another part of the country and we will not have the chance to drive it again.

    Thank you.

  • @zootsuit7

    These aren't necessarily unique views.

  • Beautiful and Amazing.

    Thanks for the Video Post

  • Thank you for the comment.

  • NIce Post!!!!!

  • Damn, that car is awesome! What's its top speed?

  • Likely faster than it is safe to drive! :)

  • wow ,what a beautiful car you have!,my love is for everything in the past ,i collect old edison phonographs and restore them, but happened to look at some old cars when i thought to look at steamers ,they are amazing works of art ! what does a vehicle like that run for and are they still available in the antique auto markets ?thanks for sharing your great video ,glenn

  • Glen, not sure what this might be worth now. Since only a very few like this model were built, be tough to find another.

    Thank you .

  • I want this car! Talk about fuel efficiency right!

  • Is it 10 mpg of water?

  • Yes, correct, in the typical driving condition, it has averaged about 10 MPG of water. My statement of 1 mpg water below is in error, should have been 10.

  • Edison, the gauges help the driver monitor steam pressure, water level, oil lubrication, etc. It is like a water heater; you put the heat to the boiler via gasoline burning in this case, and once the pressure comes up, you can start operating. The throttle controls the pressure (I believe) to the two cylinders that have the pistons in them which drive the rear axles though the ring gear.

It came from a barn long ago and now is in a museum out west.

    Tom

  • how many gallons can the water tank hold?

so heating water would be comparable to putting a pot over the stove top i would assume.

  • Does this stanley have a steam automatic valve and a water automatic valve? Are the piolet and main fuel pressures manually controlled?

    Thanks

  • Hi I have a couple of questions about your stanley. First what do all of those valves and guages do? Also how do you start it up? Do you have to change the amount of water being pumped into the boiler when you change the speed. How do you shut down the car? Where did you get it?

    thanks

  • Thank you. I just posted the long delayed Part 2 pjmasterzz.

    Tom

  • take good care of it, this car is pure gold!!

  • Thank you. I just posted the long delayed Part 2 pjmasterzz.

    Tom

  • Love to see more videos of it.

  • The water consumption averages about 1 MPG and the water tank holds 42 gallons. Oil is injected into the steam line and the car uses 1 quart of oil per 100 miles. The operating steam pressure is 500 PSI and the fuel pressure is 125 PSI. The engine turns 350 RPM at 30 MPH and turns 502 revolutions per mile.

  • Good point. Brief summary. This car is a 1911 Model 72 Stanley Steamer. It is different from other Stanleys built that year because it has an aluminum body and the final gear ratio is 51 to 57 (1.12 to 1), among other things. Stanley built 25 of this model in 1911 and this is the only example remaining.

  • Make a video talking about the prenciples of how it runs. When it starts is it cranking. Does it run on coal.

  • The engine is a two cylinder double acting engine that is rated at 20 HP but develops 593 ft-lb of torque from a standing start and through out the entire operating range. The car is fired by gasoline and gets about 10 MPG with a 20 gallon fuel tank.
