@1fgrandmotherjoyce- While kill shelters are the optimum-I will tell you something. I have worked at 2 different shelters. The dogs in these two shelters had the best days of their lives. It should not be blamed on the shelter but the breeders, the mills and the abusive owners that these animals (both cat dog snake and birds) are euthanized. While there might be some "responsible" breeders out there they are still contributing to the problem. Hard cold fact.
@dzeigfinge Excellent comment! I totally agree with you. No matter how the breeders treat the animals, the bottom line is, we shouldn't be breeding more cats and dogs when so many are dying every single day in shelters!
Thank you for working in the shelters, and thank you for watching my video and commenting!
Debbie, wow that is gut-wrenchingly powerful. The pictures of the puppy mills-- caged breeding grounds with no opportunity to play or run in the sun. Very bad karma all around in return for profit. Thank you to Deanna for raising awareness of the cruelty with which we treat Man's Best Friend.
David and I are cat people--two came from a shelter in Milwaukee, WI and the other two adopted us after we moved to California.
KUDOS to Deanna! I am proud of her. She is a compassionate soul.
@1grandmajoyce why would you NOT buy from a kill shelter?!?!? those dogs are going to die and you could save their lives!!! just bc you get a dog from a kill shelter doesn't mean you agree with killing dogs! my two dogs were scheduled to be put down by their owner, I saved their lives by a matter of hours! the bond between us is so much stronger from that because they knew their fate, and they know that their lives are the best they've ever been now!!
Puppy mills are deplorable, but so are kill shelters, which are the death row to countless innocent animals....and well the animals know it : ( These animals value their own lives as we value ours. What a cruel fate they have! I would never purchase a dog from either a puppy mill or store that bought from them; nor from a kill shelter. I would only purchase from a no kill establishment or a family or reputable breeder where the dogs are in good shape and happy.
@1grandmajoyce So many good points. I think the biggest help we can offer is to buy from shelters, kill or not. While I agree with you about kill shelters to a point, there's one thing to keep in mind. Some shelters, which can't claim "no kill" status, are only called "kill" shelters because they WILL humanely euthanize a dog if it's truly suffering or is so aggressive that it's a huge risk to the other animals and people. I agree with euthanasia in this instance, although it's soooo hard!
Hi Debby! First of all, please give my love to our family in Israel! Thank you for watching my video, and caring enough to help spread the word. I love the Einstein quote, I hadn't heard that before, but it's wonderful.
Very inspiring video Debbie, I can't believe this is happening under our noses, where are these puppy mills? You can't really do much to stop this, if they import them. What's even more wrong is people are obviously still buying the puppies. I hope you do achieve with this Debbie.
You nailed it, these puppy mills are all over, right under our noses! They're anywhere and everywhere. And I know it seems like there's nothing we can do, it seems hopeless, out of our control. But the great thing is, we CAN do something, just like I said in the video. A huge thing would be convincing people to boycott pet stores that sell puppies and kittens. If they couldn't sell them anymore, they wouldn't buy them from puppy mills... to be continued ...
The GOOD breeders, the ones who do it right, with compassion, don't usually sell to puppy stores, because they want to be sure their puppies end up in good homes, and they can't if there's a middle man, like a pet store. This movement to boycott pet stores that sell puppies is really growing! Things are changing! More pet stores are starting to sell only supplies, and use their stores to bring in adoption animals instead! Let's pray more good continues!
You can relate this to all animals, I would always buy my snakes from private breeders, and I will always sell my snakes privately, unfortunately you're going to get this with everything. Once it becomes a commercial thing it becomes a huge problem, pet chain stores are the main problems in England, they put their nose where it doesn't belong. I feel this is the problem here too, however it's not just the seller, it's the buyer too.
@Pianomam There is no such thing as a good breeder. Breeders breed for one or both of two reasons: ego and/or money. Breeders either have no true compassion for the animals, or are ignorant of the fact that shelters are overflowing with precious animals whose lives need to be saved. A compassionate person knows that it is foolish and cruel to breed more animals when so many are suffering and need our help. Breeders can never be sure that the puppy they sell is going to a responsible owner
@suzahna I've been wondering the same thing. I read about professional and compassionate breeders who try to breed for the best qualities in dogs. I don't know how to word this, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about the breeders who do it with compassion. However, I agree that it sure seems like it would be better to just STOP breeding when we have such an overpopulation now! Thank you for leaving the comment!

I watched the video speechless and with tears in my eyes.
There's so much crualty in our world - against children, women and animals and other weakened groups.
Einstein said that our world is full of evil not because of the evil ones but because of the good ones that don't do enough to help.
Accordingly people who are involved in this call for help are good ones.
I am with you
I will immediately send this link to my friends.
Best to you all - Debby Rosner
