as having lived in austin for a period, SXSW music portion is just for industry. That's why the crowd is so lame. Most of them are there just because of the buzz for the band and think it'll be cool to say they saw them, but don't know their music. The film portion of the festival is great and easy to get tickets for.

The real trick is to get good gigs, publishing, and distribution.
