Just for any americans out there. In the UK we have to types of marines. The Royal Marines these are the regular guys then we have the royal marine comandos that are like the US marine raiders.

The RMC go though the toughest infantry training in the world, they are an elite force and are bordering on being a Special Forces unit, they are the best in the world.
From what I hear the ROK (South Korean) Marines are real ass kickers. For hand to hand exceptionally tough. Royal Marines are more elite than American, but American Marines have a number of purposes including an Air Wing. If you are going to be jet mechanic or avionics technician, you don't need 32 weeks of Commando training. I respect the Royal Marines, but think certain barbs exchanged here are ridiculous. I don't know that Royal Marines would want the job of being a grunt.

It was Jan Smuts, a South African field marshal in the british army who initiated the first Commandos during WW2. And you are indeed correct every "Elite" force that followed was based upon the British Commandos. During the Boer war we had to use commandos and guerrilla tactics against the British for we simply did not have the nubers for a Napoleon style war.

basically for sas you have to be invited to selection, generally 8 get through a selection of 80 guys! It is the same for the sbs but their training is longer, It is true that the SAS will recruit you from most regiments but generally its the Parachute Regiment, The sbs is almost entirely people from Marine selection, so if you really wanted to go in the SAS, join the para's first, personally i view the marines as better

@thisishiphop101 I was a regular rifleman. The only American Marines that are jump qualified are our pilots, reconnaissance, a lucky few that go to jump school at Ft. Benning, GA, or the guys who re-enlist and use it as a re-enlistment stipulation. My company was mainly mechanized in AAVs or we got a lift in a helo.

You can actually join if you have Commonwealth citizenship too, or if you go and ask the Secretary of State for the permission to join if you are foreign. But if you have British citizenship then there'll be no issue with you joining at all ;)
If you are in the Marines then you have to join the SBS, which is basically the SAS but more secretive and better lol, and it's in the Navy instead of the Army.

i dont think there is an amount of time to serve tbh, just give in a leaving request and fill your leave notice (1 yr for rmc i think its 3 months for rmr) if you really want to join take your parents to your AFCO if needs be, im sure when they find out bein a rmc doesnt mean getting shot at 24/7 and getting twigged by i.e.d's theyll probably come round also if you show your serious your parents will probably come round for two reasons...
1.they want you to no they support you no matter wat they do 2. you dont go ahead and do it without thier consent because if they try and stop you you can always threaten them with the french foriegn legion lol

you got three years active service 1st buddy and it aint that easy. i wanted to join rmc then do mountain leader then sniper but, you dont tell them what you want to do, they tell u what ul be good at.
almost every army in the west mate, unless they see that ur a 'perfect sniper' or any other trait then u cant really ask to go without active service or a tour of duty under your belt. my advice if your training to join is get urself a bb replica of the canadian standard issue rifle and getting used to holding runnin and shooting it. canada got a good well trained army good luck mate its harder than it looks
also get a scope, get used to 'clicking'etc then work on spacial awarenes, concealment but nothing could really pepare u for sittin for a week without movin pissin and shittin yourself, you think u got wat it takes good luck i sure as fuck dont
Trained to do much with patience and stealth.. Trained for 1 year so far.. 2 more years till i can go in to the military.. Lol and its not a week.. most missions are 24-72 hrs long Special occasions call for longer.. but you need water to survive for a week
Im not one but friend knew one, when you go threw bmq, push yourself to the edge and further, from now, join a gun club shoot a few rounds down range. also its not just your shooting skills, its maturity and leardership skills, snipers go out alone you have to think on the go and think fast. Dont try and cut the corners in basic be the best soldier you can be, that file will follow you everywhere you go in the forces.

We struggled slightly in the Falklands because we were outnumbered by 3 -1 on the ground & around 10 -1 in the air. Despite this we still managed a 3-1 kill ratio on average. Also...that was a more even fight than other conflicts such as Nam, Iraq etc
It was just 20 Harriers pitted against the entire Argie (Mirages/Sky hawks...both supersonic) airforce with 0 Harrier losses due to air to air combat :0

We struggled in the Falklands because of major defence cut backs. Also the ship with most of our helicopters on was sunk before the soldiers even got on the ground. This left a 56 mile march for the Paras and the Marines with 80 pounds of kit, in 3 days. And at the end of that they took Port Stanley. Which is an amazing feat of endurance.

Yes they are considered to be one of the best forces in the world especially their snipers which are arguably the best in the world. also this vid was realy great and well done on getting all the pics and footage i know i wouldn't be able to get that much.

@RMCswimmerElite The Royal Marines are the elite fighting force of the Royal Navy. They are considered the best soldiers in the world. The only ones who are above the Royal Marines are the SAS and the SBS. But most of the SAS and SBS recruits come from the Royal Marines and the Armys Parachute Regiment. The British Armed Forces are the best in the world. The US has the tech and numbers but the British Forces are vastly more experienced and trained.

basically for sas you have to be invited to selection, generally 8 get through a selection of 80 guys! It is the same for the sbs but their training is longer, It is true that the SAS will recruit you from most regiments but generally its the Parachute Regiment, The sbs is almost entirely people from Marine selection, so if you really wanted to go in the SAS, join the para's first, personally i view the marines as better

@thisishiphop101 no marines do it to you just have to pass a training course. anyway tha paras have not been trained in parachuting for 5 years now caus the RAF lack the equipement!

@thisishiphop101 I was a regular rifleman. The only American Marines that are jump qualified are our pilots, reconnaissance, a lucky few that go to jump school at Ft. Benning, GA, or the guys who re-enlist and use it as a re-enlistment stipulation. My company was mainly mechanized in AAVs or we got a lift in a helo.

@xAZNjin no, clearly not in the military, you apply to become special forces, you have to pass selection. Civilians can join in exeptional circumstances

You can actually join if you have Commonwealth citizenship too, or if you go and ask the Secretary of State for the permission to join if you are foreign. But if you have British citizenship then there'll be no issue with you joining at all ;)

If you are in the Marines then you have to join the SBS, which is basically the SAS but more secretive and better lol, and it's in the Navy instead of the Army.

you don't have to join the SBS apparently you can join the SAS if your in the Navy. and SBS is technically in the same league as the SAS neither are better than the other

i dont think there is an amount of time to serve tbh, just give in a leaving request and fill your leave notice (1 yr for rmc i think its 3 months for rmr) if you really want to join take your parents to your AFCO if needs be, im sure when they find out bein a rmc doesnt mean getting shot at 24/7 and getting twigged by i.e.d's theyll probably come round also if you show your serious your parents will probably come round for two reasons...

you got three years active service 1st buddy and it aint that easy. i wanted to join rmc then do mountain leader then sniper but, you dont tell them what you want to do, they tell u what ul be good at.

almost every army in the west mate, unless they see that ur a 'perfect sniper' or any other trait then u cant really ask to go without active service or a tour of duty under your belt. my advice if your training to join is get urself a bb replica of the canadian standard issue rifle and getting used to holding runnin and shooting it. canada got a good well trained army good luck mate its harder than it looks

also get a scope, get used to 'clicking'etc then work on spacial awarenes, concealment but nothing could really pepare u for sittin for a week without movin pissin and shittin yourself, you think u got wat it takes good luck i sure as fuck dont

Trained to do much with patience and stealth.. Trained for 1 year so far.. 2 more years till i can go in to the military.. Lol and its not a week.. most missions are 24-72 hrs long Special occasions call for longer.. but you need water to survive for a week

Im not one but friend knew one, when you go threw bmq, push yourself to the edge and further, from now, join a gun club shoot a few rounds down range. also its not just your shooting skills, its maturity and leardership skills, snipers go out alone you have to think on the go and think fast. Dont try and cut the corners in basic be the best soldier you can be, that file will follow you everywhere you go in the forces.

We struggled slightly in the Falklands because we were outnumbered by 3 -1 on the ground & around 10 -1 in the air. Despite this we still managed a 3-1 kill ratio on average. Also...that was a more even fight than other conflicts such as Nam, Iraq etc
It was just 20 Harriers pitted against the entire Argie (Mirages/Sky hawks...both supersonic) airforce with 0 Harrier losses due to air to air combat :0

Hmmm... the comments keep reorganising and now i see people have mentioned Vietnam already. And i swear i just left this comment but it hasnt apeared :S. We struggled in the Falklands because of major defence cut backs. Also the ship with most of our helicopters on was sunk before the soldiers even got on the ground. This left a 56 mile march for the Paras and the Marines with 80 pounds of kit, in 3 days. And at the end of that they took Port Stanley. Which is an amazing feat of endurance.

I'm sorry, but the US Army are not pathetic. They are the main ground force of our proud country and are the most deployed branch of the US. Marines are there to breach, secure beachheads, and protect naval assets. They are the elite, I will agree, but you cannot say that the US Army is pathetic.
