My grandpa who passed away last year was in the Republic of China Army. He fought the Japanese and the Communists. Note that this is completely different from the People's Liberation Army of the modern communist China that took power in 1949.

And if you'd go on any of the Spratyl videos, then you'd find tons of users also cursing and raving at the Chinese in general, threatening to kill all the Chinese. I personally do disagree with China's stance, but remember, even if China pulls back, there are still many other countries, and remember, Vietnam is Communist, too.

Chiang knew that the japanese would eventually lose the war and his confrontation with communist will resume so he didn't want to fully commit his best troops against the japanese because it would destroy his troops that he could use against the communist. The upshot is that Chiang didn't come across as being patriotic and the communist did.

In fact he was so adamant about this that the Manchu warlord had to kidnapp him and convince him to form a united front with the communist to face the Japanese. How well KMT or Communism would be dependent on personality involved. Fortunately for the communist they had Deng Xiaoping. I think the KMT would have been better though because 50's to the 70's would not have been wasted with stupid campaigns such as great leap forward and cultural revolution.

In the long run I think KMT would have been more favorable since the US being somewhat ideologically driven would have been more willing to given them access to US markets and knowhow sooner instead of wasting the 50's to the 70's. but the context is different, with over a billion people and poverty, KMT restored the landlord system and the outcome is predictable, that is why the uprising CCP could defeat the KMT under the support of the people. KMT wouldve never worked, there will be revolutions until they are overthrown, without the CCP things would be chaotic.

Also the "land distribution" under CCP amounts to the state taking up the land. What do peasant want? Their own private plots to till as they wish. In the long run this may have soured the peasants. While outwardly and immediately the more radical solution of the CCP would have appealed more in the long run peasants do not get ownership

Why do I say that peasants in the longrun will be dissatisfied? It has become more corrupt as time went by. The KMT has done a fine job cleaning up its act. The fact of the matter is both KMT and CCP ended up some rather undesirable elements. Take a political science course in China or history for this period.

@EdinburghTiger We are talking about ships, not army, naval engagements involve planes and artillery, not MGs. And no, the NRA did not use the MG42, standard issue was the ZB vz. 26. There was an average of one MG per platoon. The NRA was severely under powered as well, the firepower of one Japanese division was equal to that of 3 Chinese divisions. Not only that, they suffered from equiptment shortages, only 2/3 of the infantry had guns, and those who did had guns suffered from lack of ammo
