  • In Star Trek The Voyage Home--

Chekov: We're looking for nuclear wessels

    Anyone?

  • Walter Koenig was 1000 times better than this guy

  • @Gordontrek I wholeheartedly agree.

  • He is actually kind of adorable...in a strange way... Plus that accent :D

  • @pinkiepod15 no. He is super sexy. It just helps that he's adorably cute(: He's both(:

  • Anton Yelchin is always the "cute" one: like in this and fright night... the other guys are always hotter.

  • Broputer? LOL

  • Now say nuclear vessles

  • @jimbopumbapigsticks you're absolutely right. In Star trek 2 they should go for esperanto. Subtitled maybe. In english of course. Er.. Federation standard, sorry.

My god is this nerd (not you)

  • to yall who think its a goof that he can say "v" in "five" and "Chekov" - the "v" sound in those words can easily be substituted for "f" sound and because Russian's phonetic rules are different than ours, that's what he says. The "v" in the beginning of a word, however is different, hence he uses "w" instead. Its actually consistent with a Russian accent

  • @smibbo AFAIK, the actual rule is that "V" (actually a Cyrillic В) along with a few other letters is pronounced differently if it is at the end of the word, in the case of "V" (Cyrillic В) it's pronounced like "F" (Cyrillic Ф). In TOS AFAIK it was always mispronounced "V" (most probably because back then people didn't know better) while Антон (Anton) actually pronounces it correctly...

  • @MarbledPaladin alls I know is that I lived with a man from The Ukraine and he had the same style of pronunciation in English. I'm not an armchair linguist and didn't mean to come off like one.

  • @MarbledPaladin Your comment was invented in Russia

  • Am I the only one who noticed that he could pronounce the 'v' in five, but not Victor?

  • Comment removed

  • Even though he's russian, i thought he sucked. Tried too hard.

  • in the Abram's universe, Apple never developed Siri.... ok, ok... lame joke.

  • I know this is nerdom heresy, but I love the 2009 universe. It took the classic characters and found actors whom, I beleive, portrayed them excellently (obviously the originals hold a special place in every trekkies heart, but still), and gave them the special effects and set pieces they always deserved.

  • Yelchin's parents are from Russia, he should be able to pull off the accent without trouble, which (I think he did.)

  • If the Enterprise has a multinational crew why are the computer display and passwords in English?

  • @jimbopumbapigsticks Its called "Federation Standard". If you lived in your mother's basement immersing yourself in Trek "canon," you wouldn't ask such silly questions -- or see a woman naked. Okay, not such a silly question. Time to move out.... MOM!!!

  • How can he say the "v" sound in Chekov and Five just fine but he can't say it at the beginning of a word?

  • @Chrisk122990 It is how Chekov spoke since TOS.

  • @Chrisk122990 Well, it sounds like he says "Fife", to me at least.

  • This is what we get for haveing computer systems run by MICROSOFT" LOL

  • My favorites Chekov!

    Kedvencem Chekov!

  • "9-5-Wictor-Wictor-2!"

"Why are you talkin' to me, man?"

    xDDDD

  • He's so cute as Chekov I loved Anton's performance as the young Chekov :):):)

  • 95 wictor wictor 2 why are you talkin to me man? lol

  • chekov's moments are my favorite ones in the movie! he's so funny and cute

  • shove the wictor up JJ abrams ass

  • It's scary how many times I've watched this

  • This is my ringtone now FTW!

  • Why he speaks english so pooooooooooor? >.< fuck

  • I have to wonder if perhaps this Chekov has a speech impediment.......either way it's flipping adorable!

  • I look forward to the next one mainly because he's in it. And because I <3 all Star Trek, but a good portion of my anticipation is due to this adorable young Russian!

  • Nu...cle...ar...Wessels

  • At least alternate Chekov don't have problem with nuclear wessels' passwords.

  • A little too much "wodka" before shift, Ensign?

  • That always killed me too. His name is PaVEL ChekoV, with a V. Why does he have trouble with V's and W's? He will use V instead of W and W instead of V. Do Russians really have this problem? Awesome movie in any case!

  • @MackenzieMichael No, they don't. There is no logical reason why they should assume a Russian would say "wessel" or "wictor". Russians will pronounce "W" as "V", but not "V" as "W".

  • @Supermassively I didn't think so. It's still funny though. I'm going to name my dog Wictor Wictor. It will go good with my cat, Duran Duran. LOL

  • @MackenzieMichael HAHAHAHHA, you are so funny, dude, ahahhah!! :)

  • @carloko08 LOL I have my moments.

  • Ensign Chekov, Pavel Andreievich sir.

  • Comment removed

  • what does Wictor mean????

  • @toughblondie "Wictor" is "Victor" in a Russian accent. "Victor" is radio code for the letter V.

  • @JoshGrobansLady Yes, "Victor" is western phonetic for the letter "V", but Russians do not pronounce the letter "V" as "W".

  • The voice that says "why are you even talking to me man" is James T. Kirks' voice earlier in the movie when he is talking to Captain Spike

  • "Ensign authorization code nine five wictor wictor two."

"Why are you talking to me man?"

"NINE. FIVE. W-W-W-W-VICTOR. W-W-W-VICTOR TWO!" xD I love his pronounciation!

  • Wicker Wicker Oh NO NOT THE BEES

    Access granted.....no not really

  • Lulz. The computer sounds like Kirk. XD

  • Ahahahahaha! That computer has some attitude!

  • To all those who say Chekov has a bad accent...

He's SUPPOSED to mix up his W's and V's--if he didn't do that and make frequent references to how awesome Russia is and act like the dork most of us (myself included) really would be like in a situation like that...

    He wouldn't be Chekov!

As Chekov and Spock are my favorites I was ECSTATIC that they were done BRILLIANTLY HERE! They kept Chekov's w/v-thing and Quinto looks just like Nimoy! Urban as Bones was AMAZING! The rest were great!

  • I can has Chekov?

  • What authorization code is he even trying to say? XD

  • @14Bieberfeverforever 9 5 V V 2 is his Ensign authorization code.

  • hes so freaking cute lol i love him :)

  • Ensign Chekov! Pavel Andrevich sir!

  • I was like waiting for his every part on the movie

  • computer with a bad attitude

  • LOL I love it so freakin much. For the record I noticed the "Why are you talkin to me man" the first time I heard this and LOLd. I love this. Fav.

  • he's hot

  • very beginning freaked me out

  • i never noticed that was anton yelchin when i saw the movie

  • My friend and I LOVE Chekov! Thanks for this upload!

  • lol, the computer is an asshole. "Why are you talkin to me man?"

I was worried the new chekov wouldn't be as cte, but he definitely is!

  • @whozluvinu Actually, the voice is Kirk when he's talking to Captain Pike in the bar. It *is* in the movie, just not at that particular part.

  • HE SAYA THE V's IN HIS NAME!

  • I love Chekov.

  • This bit doesn't make any sense. The reason a lot of Slavic people pronounce "v" and "w" the same is that the "w" sound doesn't exist in their language, only V. So in when learning English they have to work so hard to say "w" instead of "w" for that they end up saying "W" all the time, even when they should say "V". Why would he have a problem pronouncing a sound that is everywhere in Russian?

  • @rabbitwho If this were a normal Russian character's accent I'd agree whole heartedly, but it's Chekov. If he didn't mess up his v's and w's, he wouldn't be Chekov, he would just be some Russian guy. The bad accent is what makes Chekov Chekov.

  • @YeMightyDespair No no, you misunderstand, mixing up Ws and Vs is normal for Russian people, but the difficult one to pronounce is the W and not the V. I can't understand why he would have to have said wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwviktor

I can imagine if the word was "wickter" he'd have to say v.. v... v.... wickter.. but this is the wrong direction

  • @rabbitwho I don't know, but my mom does it quite a bit.

  • @JuliatheCoolest I noticed that last night.

  • Damn it Chekov everybody knows that the authorization code is Nuclear Wessels!

  • Did Kirk hack into the authorization mainframe? XD

  • i love the movie and him!!!

  • I had to repeat words too because of my Russian accent. Chekov, ya ponimayu tebya

  • hes so adorable...my favorite scene of the movie is when hes running throw the halls screaming I CAN DO THAT I CAN DO THAT MOVE MOVE I CAN DO THAT I CAN DO THAT!!!!! lol

  • oh. my. god. he is so damn cute!!

  • awww i loved the original chekov but the new one's so cute!! "I CAN DO ZAT!!!"

  • Favorite ST character: Tied between Chekov (Nuclear wessels!) and Scotty (xD!)

  • awwwwwwwww i love his accent

  • Man, that is one rude computer! =D Genius touch with the voice-over. It made an already amusing scene even funnier.

  • There is a V sound in the Russian language. Why the hell can he not pronounce the letter V!?

  • @TehUberTrekkie so it could be funny

  • aaah this scene in french version is the most hilarious in the movie, Chekov is so cute!!!!

  • nuclear wessels anyone?

  • I love Chekov, he was the best character, I want them to make more Star Trek movies and for him to have more screen time. <3 Love him!

  • Not okay, man...it's maddness!!!

  • Aparently the "Wictor, Wictor" is Polish, not Russian.

Anyway for anyone who doesn't see the point:

    paVel andreaVich chekoV , Victor-Victor.

He has a V in each of his three names but can't say Victor.

  • I love that even software created to decifer alien languages can't understand what the hell he's saying. I love Chekov!

  • The whole time I watched him in the movie I was thinking " SAY NUCLEAR WESSELS DAMNIT!!"

  • i luv it when he speaks russian. xD

  • aww hes soooo cute [:

  • Hahaaw his voice is so cute:') But you changed the bit where it says authorisation code not recognised? Bad times:P

  • Ha! Capitalist pigdogs, refusing to install a Russian-language translator, forcing Chekov to struggle with the voice-recognition programs. It's discrimination, I tell ya!

  • omg he's adorable!!! [:

  • Aww man he has to try so hard ;3;

  • His voice is sooo cute x i must have some kinda obsession with russians :S

  • Oh God, his voice is so freaking adorable!<3

  • "What are you talking to me man" HAHAHAhAHAHAHAHA I CAN'T BREATHE HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

  • zooooooooooooka! :D

    imas racun? :F

    lu <3

  • @MiiL25 a imam :D

da se smijem ko zivina :$

  • haahah :D

joj mislila sam da sam jedini cudak koji ima racun na youtubu :F

  • Ma jok to :D

spamam likovima i haham se :D

  • vazno se hahat !!! :D

  • StaNkO HaHAR

  • Hahaha XD That is so like me XDDD coz i can't say V sounds aswell

  • OMG i LOVE his ACCENT!!! hes soo cute when he talke likethat i want to go 2 russia!

  • Comment removed

  • i just finnished watching this move and i noticed that at 0:07 - 0:08 the voice that says "why are you talkiing to me man" isnt even part of the movie! it actually says something like authorization code not recongnized. that voice was just put in there. but i like it. it makes the scene more hilarious.

  • @whozluvinu Finally someone noticed!

  • @SquonkProductions yeah but they really should have put that in the movie. thats hilarity.!

  • hahaha dont worry. a lot ppl have actually. they just didnt comment. :) love the vid!!! nine five wictor wictor two hahah

  • @SquonkProductions

    Is that from Big Lebowski?

  • @121N60 Nope.

  • @SquonkProductions Its from the start of the movie when he's talkking to Captain Pike after that bar fight :D

  • @121N60 It's from when Pike and Kirk are conversing after the barfight.

  • Did that so he didn't breach Youtube's terms of service.

  • @whozluvinu

That is in the movie. Kirk said it when talking to Pike in the bar.

  • @whozluvinu It's part of the movie... that's Kirk talking to Pike at the bar after the fight... the uploader of this vid just put that in there because it's PERFECT. lol

  • @whozluvinu Actually that part is from the movie

"Why are you talking to me man"

is what Kirk says at the bar when..whats-his-face captain guy is telling him to join Starfleet Academy or something.

  • @whozluvinu It's in the movie, but during a different scene. Kirk says that to the Starfleet recruiter after the bar fight.

  • @whozluvinu "Why are you talking to me ,man" was when Kirk and Pike were in the bar -_-

  • @whozluvinu actually i think it WAS in the movie. it's chris pine when he's talking to pike in the bar.

  • @whozluvinu Its a part of the movie, just not THAT part. =P Kirk says it when Pike is recruiting him.

  • @whozluvinu Actually I watched the movie again closely, and that sample is from earlier in the movie when Captain Pike breaks up the fight in the bar and Kirk asks "Why are you talking to me, man?" It's still hilarious that that quote fits there so well... =)

  • @whozluvinu actual that is in the movie it's just not at that part. the "why are you even talking to me man" is what kirk says to pike in the bar at the beginning of the movie. you right about it not going right there in that particular spot but that is in the movie

  • @whozluvinu actually that is from the movie when Pike is talking to kirk in the bar after his brawl

  • @whozluvinu dude, that's from after the bar fight. Captain Pike is talking to Jim in the bar. Jim asks Captain Pike "Why are you talking to me man?"

  • @whozluvinu Actually, that line was in the movie. Kirk said it to Pike after the bar fight scene.

  • my grandfather is russian and his name is Victor. no lie!

  • coolest accent ever! Love the accent!

  • AWW he's soo cute. I wish he had more screen time.

  • @Xearf He's always been my favorite character, from the "old" Chekov (feels odd to say that) to the new one... he's so much like me, it's ridiculous; my HAIR even looks like the new Chekov's all curly and a mess... pale... never knowing what's going on fully but always helpful and loyal to the friends who confuse the hell out of him.

CHEKOVS OF THE WORLD UNITE! (And for the record- SO GLAD they had this scene and kept not only the accent, but even the v's-as-w-s thing... I want Trek 12 NOW!)

  • @obiwanobiwan13

    That's hot <3

  • @Xearf I know, right? :3

  • @Xearf cute? i think you mean hot.... his Russian accent completes him

  • @Thealiya098 Nah. The guy played Kirk is HOT. Anton Yelchin is cute. At least in this movie :D

  • Hahahahahaha Wictor Wictor Hahahahaha He Is Such A Sweet Guy...

  • I love it when he runs to go save kirk and sulu and while he's running he goes, " I can Zoo Zat! I can Zo Zat" and then when he does he goes jumps up and goes," Yama Youl!" or something like that which means " Holy Sh*t!" xD

  • xD I died when I saw this. Yelchin FTW !!

  • Chekov the worst russian accent ever? The old one maybe, but the new one Anton Yelchin is a born Russian with two parents who most likely speak heavily-accented english. His accent is excellent! But, in Star Trek 4 pronouncing "v" as "w" was a Chekov joke (nuclear wessels) and they decided to reprise that joke, that's all.

  • @MLFive He did that in the original series too. Every device that came about, he would say it was "inwented" in Russia.

  • @MLFive Anton speaks perfect english actually. He said he choose to keep the accent from the old one(yeah,) and that its more of a polish accent, not russian but it sounds like what americans thought of russians

  • @MLFive you are right, his accent is very good. the problem is it's a little bit too perfect. every russian accent is unique, though there are some consistent patterns. yelchin, however, makes pretty much every possible pronunciation "error" which is not natural for any accent.

  • Lol it was pretty stupid for Starfleet to give Chekov a code with two V words in it. XD or maybe they did it on purpose as a joke. lol

"lets see him get his tounge 'round this."

    This is so cute.

  • Actually, this scene is bizarre because it is the "W" sound, not the "V" sound that Russian speakers have trouble with. While I agree the scene is cute, it displays complete ignorance of the Russian language. It's ridiculous the Chekov has such a difficult time with the "V" sound especially since he just finished telling the captain what is name is: "Ensign ChekoV, PaVel AndreoVitch, sir." A "V" sound in each of his names, but somehow he cant pronounce the "V" in "Victor." *eyeroll*

  • ... Chekov in general (old and new) is an exaggeration and comic relief. In TOS ive heard Chekov pronouned Vs depending on where it is in the sentance so he can say it. But some things HAVE to be exagerated like "wodka", "wessel" and "wicktor". Just to be funny, cuz as we all know Chekov was meant to be the good side of Russia etc etc.

  • I am surprised dees clip is awailable on youtube. Da! Russians say awailable and I have no clue as to vhy even ven zeee 3rd letter of zeee russian alphabet is "v"

  • Hey man, everyone knows Chekov has the worst Russian accent ever to make it on air. But it would have been tragic if it had been replaced by a realistic Russian accent, eh? And I mean, it was an accent developed in America in the late 60's. Ignorance of all things Russian was an American core value.

  • Excellent point. :)

  • I just like to think that it's some russian dialect that developed by the 23rd century.... >__>

  • If you did some research, you'd know that Anton Yelchin knows that the W thing isn't how real Russians talk. He did that to keep with the original Star Trek. Unlike Yelchin, Walter Koenig wasn't born in Russia.

  • my bf and i go around saying wictor wictor to eachother all day LoL

  • i loved this part!!! really... LOLZ!!! imagine this happening with your own ship... lolz... you get irritated because the AI cant understand your accent...

  • omg i am so in love with him X]

  • omg he is so adorable love his freaking accent

  • hahaha gotta luv the accent

  • hahahahahahah funny

  • Anton Yelchin♥

  • I luv him! \o/

  • lmaoooooooo

  • 9 5 Wictor Wictor 2!
