@robosteven Usually it involves using the RNG (random number generator) to gain critical hits every attack, force the enemy to miss often, and avoiding unnecessary combat against Pokemon in grass. If he really wanted to he could just catch all shiny Pokemon with a single pokeball, all based on the RNG as well.
@egomaniac654 ah nvrm i see quick claw spammage.. I hope this guy is proud of himself! He just spent his whole life breaking the shit out of my favorite childhood game! Theres not even anything to be proud of here! Theres no skill involved in this SPAMMAGE of save states! Just an insane amount of wasted time!
@egomaniac654 So...the real loser is the guy who spent a few days to make this video...or the guy named "egomaniac654" who is leaving hateful comments on said guy's video?
@egomaniac654 you know the game calculates with percentages. the some pokemon have higher some have lower. before every action, the player hits 'save state' and when the enemy is aout to hit he is gonna 'load state' to retry until he hits and goes on. so this video is a TAS (tool-assisted speedrun). it's like cut. you dont see him load and save stating. you see the video as a whole.
@jvpernis1 It's tool-assisted that means they use a crapload of savestates until they get through the grass w/o a battle and only have to do whats necessary.
Well that was...Awesom? What the fuck am I saying! Even if I did it as fast as I could using a level 50 Pokemon from the start, I still could not even get close to this time! It took me like 15 hours to reach the Pokemon League!
geodude is outspeeded lots of times theoraticly speaking wouldn't trading a pokemon of about lv80 be better for your team and faster, if he refuses to listen simply load the previous save file until he does???
@SinYue The guidelines for TAS submissions are very strict and importing pokemon from another game would probably be classified as "loading from save file" which is strictly against the rules in most regards. It would also beat the purpose of what TAS(tool-assisted speedrun) generally do which is show off what a god-like player with perfect reflexes and perfect luck can do when playing a game. Oh, and not to mention this was done on an emulator so trading would be nigh impossible.
@Woodland312 Depends on how it's handled. If, for example, someone were to do a Pokemon Red/Blue or Silver/Gold etc... run using two emulators but one input it would be interesting to see(and probably legal) to see the two games trading Pokemon to save time. Though I can predict the only way that'd actually save time is if they were going for a 100% Pokemon game or something.
@gerry1888 i can answer that. For video's LONGER then 10 minutes you must have applied for Director's Account before January 2007. After that, YouTube has made a time limit of 10 minutes (10:00 till 10:59). All the video's longer then 10 minutes are not accepted anymore
Tool assisted doesn't always mean playing it frame by frame (or only playing frame by frame). The reason why he/she keeps getting lucky with crits and stuff is because the game keeps getting saved/loaded until those crits you need happen if you use a tool(pretty easy done with any emulator).
I always love to see how easily some people finish the game others(me included) spend days on or even weeks.
@nIxNuZ Actually, TAS would just manipulate luck themselves. Speed runners would have to keep soft reseting until they got what they needed, but he can just control encounter rate and critical hits with an emulator, since it is technically possible to go through the game like this without an emulator
Don't quote me on this as I'm not 100% sure, but I believe all of the random chances in Pokemon(like crits, running into wild Pokemon, etc.) are actually based on time. As in, if you play the EXACT same way frame for frame, you should always crit in the same places and so on. Because this is a tool assisted speedrun, this would take advantage of that.
Also keep in mind that tool assisted speedruns are meant to be entertaining/pushing the limits, not to show competitive prowess.
@ToshX No they are totally random, because for example if you fight and receive a crit, you reset, fight again, and your foe can actually miss his attack instead, so its not always the same.
@ToshX they are not depedant on frame or time, every time you "activate" a attack, it will calculate the probability and such, unless you can change the RNG (random number generator) and control it, every time you attack.
@HellFireUlisses Ah. Are you sure about this? Could've sworn I read somewhere that Gameboy cartridges don't have enough space to do such a thing, so instead it's "randomized" by frames. I know other games tend to do it as you described, though.
@HellFireUlisses you can check sites like smogon and others where they study RNG, for example you can even know when a shiny pokemon will pop up by controlling it.
@Chdonga This reply may be 3 months old but....Magnitude was kinda bugged in this generation. At times, the attack power of the number shown is actually multiplied by that number supposedly, idk how considering the damage calculation turned out totally different in the coding. Weird and bugged...

Ways to become the world champion in just 3 hours:
Catch a Geodude/Graveler.
ALWAYS OHKO every pokemon you fight.
Never run into a SINGLE pokemon(unless it's a pokemon you need).
Name all pokemon 1 letter/2 letter words.
And best of all, take the SHORTEST route possible.

Trading can be done on emulators.
However, seeing as a TAS is just a file with a long list of command inputs for the game, linking two emulators isn't really inside the rules.
