I love this song and Entwistle. He's probably the best rock bassist, Jack Bruce and Jaco, too. He played all these great basses, but I think he's best with a simple Fender Precision.
It was recorded for radio broadcast in the Netherlands at the time, and still gets broadcasted now and again, to great acclaim. That's where this recording is from too.
I'm so proud the first opera house where Tommy was played was the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. You can hear that from the nice echo in this recording. I think of it every time I cycle past the building.
you might be interested to know that this song is on an album....John Entwistle's solo album called "smash your head against the wall" from 1971. the tempo is much slower though, you may not like it as much. it can be found on imeem and rhapsody and all that.
