Hate to say that but the race looks very rigged or the M3 driver had no idea where to shift. The M3 will have to be a mid-13 secs car to lose to a M5 wagon like that, which is heavier than the sedan.

Yes, ofcourse. That is what my point is. M3 runs is capable of running 12.5 - 12.7 and the M5 sedan is a few tenths faster. A mini-bus (wagon) M5 is slower than the sedan M5 so if the stock M5 mini-bus (wagon) beat the M3 so badly. The M3 would have to be a mid-13 second car to be beaten so badly, which it is not.

Either the M5 mini-bus is not stock or the M3 DCT is not running right and has serious issues.

Dude...this is no 1/4 mile race. The V10 will walk most cars up top and the "mini-bus" as you put it isn't that much heavier than the m5 and lighter than the convert m6.

I don't think it would have mattered much but the M3 driver started in the wrong gear. You could also hear he broke traction right after the start line. If he would have picked the next gear before the start he wouldn't have lost time breaking traction or with that first shift. The car has almost a perfectly flat torque curve so he didn't need to start with the revs that high.

i still prefer the e46 CSL, the e92 looks awesome but isnt what i expected it would be.. dont get me wrong the e92 is powerfull but not as i expected it would be .. i mean the CSL does 0-100 Km/hr in 4.9 sec and the e92 does it in 4.8 sec, the CSL looks more confident on circuits than the e92 .. i dont think the e92 is more successfull than the e46 CSL

The M3 driver blew it. Not really a good showing what an M3 can do in a straight line considering that horrible shifting delivery in the early gears.

I did shift that. Yes, with DKG it will be definetly smoother, but you also see when gears are engaged and throttle applied 100% the BMW M5 Touring is still walking away: not anything strange with that, the M3 simpply has worse geraing and a smaller engine.

..power between a big V10 vs a V8..the stghts are wer the M5, M6 are best. 0 - 100 or 0 - 62mph they are similar. And M5Board is correct. The M3 is much more fun to drive.

Yes, the M-DCT will make a difference since the gears will be more = tighter ratios and also faster shifts.

I started here at 1st gear and my shift 1st to 2nd was not the fastest. With SMGIII or DCT you will not miss.

However, there will be a problem with the new M3 regards less of gearbox and the new M5: the M3 has a "sawed off" M5 engine so it will be slower.

True, the BMW M3 (esp. with 6-speed) will not stand a chance against a V10 M5 or M6. The M3 engine is basically a chopped off V10 :)

Ther are a few people online who think the S60R is faster.. I would have thrt the M3 raping it by 3.2 seconds on the Top Gear track driven by stig would sort that one out.. and the 0 - 100 times in both car manuals..and the fact on the vids the only Volvos that beat an M3 are modded Turbo Volvos.. and will still lose on a track. Either way. A vid would be great! :D
