In a real bad turbulence, that tray would be rolling on the roof and falling back into the passengers, cabin luggage would be flying from the racks and hitting passengers' heads, unbuckled passengers themselves would be tossed around the cabin like tennis balls and in REALLY extreme cases there have been even whole seats unbolting and flying loose. Planes have fallen as much as 20,000 ft in seconds, people have DIED or suffered maiming injuries in real severe turbulence.

If that were first class, you'd see huge lie-flat leather seats a mile away from the next with a complete media center and fancy electronic gadgets. And the food would include salmon, caviar, foie gras and Dom Pérignon champagne.

That's very light turbulence if ever i saw it... moderate would be the liquid not even staying in the containers/glasses etc.. Extreme, the tray would be up in the air, people would be screaming etc and you wouldn't even be able to hold the camera...

I'll tell you about my little Turbulance story: I was flying from Kelowna to Calgary on a Dash-8-300, and coming over those Rockies was "interesting" to say the least. the approach into Calgary was rough and at one point the plane dropped and all the passengers said, WHOAH! **Thump** that thump I think was the overhead bins bags coming back down, lol, i was a bit unnerved by that, and was thinking: just get us on the damn ground already!

I flew over the Andes when flying from the Amazon Jungle to Lima. The change in air temperature is so severe that it creates such horrific and unpredictable turbulence. During our flight the turbulence was so bad that cutlery was flying out the kitchen at the back and everybody was screaming including the air hostesses. My partner and I said our goodbyes and told each other we loved each other. We were lucky enough to survive but a week later a similar flight crashed and killed all passengers.
