Hi i like your channel and your videos I just want a little favour from you guys. I play an instrument which is called rudraveena.it's a holy music for sufi and darvesh. its a dying indian classical instrument. it has a 5000 thousand years old musical history. its a rare indian classical music instrument. its mother of all indian instruments. only few are playing So please add your comment and suscribe it. Tribute to Jonas, a Swedish Lutenist: Peculiarly sublime & graceful, this pale as alabastar, strikingly elegant man in black with the slender hands of an artist reminds me of the little figurines inside of a music box; his being is captivated & at one with the music such that the instrument is an extension of his enthralled soul pouring out his heartbeat in an intricate stream of tender notes of supplicant adoration. -Cynthia Quispe
das ist ein wunderbares Video geworden! Gratuliere! Deine Interpretation strahlt all die Ruhe und Spannung aus die für diese Musik wichtig ist. Sehr musikalisch - tolle Interpretation. Mach weiter so!
This, of course, is not a theorbo. The theorbo was strung in double courses.
Your playing sounds very much like a guitarists, maybe due to the a-historic sound and affected performance style. It also seems like an odd idea -- though rather common -- to play a lute or one of its relatives, in a church with acoustics so "wet" they entirely conceal the true, intimate but reverberant, sound of the instrument.
If I were capable of playing theorbo this well and then turning around and playing the Aranjuez on guitar, narrow-minded criticism based on incorrect statements would wash off me pretty easily. But I'll defend him anyway: First of all, single-strung theorbos are described in historical sources from both France and Italy.
Secondly, playing in churches reflects an attempt to place the instrument in an accoustic closer to that of the instrument's original venues, with stone and wooden surfaces.
I think when you say he sounds like a guitarist, you might be hearing the fact that he is playing with nails. I assume he does so because he plays classical guitar as well as theorbo. Before you go and tell me this is "a-historic" go check the sources, for example Picinini, on theorbo playing. Why waste time trying to decide whether this man is a 'guitarist' or a 'lutenist'? He's a musician, thats what counts.
Congratulations my friend, your performance is wonderful, impressing ... hope to meet you soon again for a beer so you explain to why you suddenly excel in playing the theorbe !!! :)
Can't say I have anything or anyone to compare with, but you really do make that curious piece of wood sound very good. This music makes me long for D&D in a way.
Nice church and beautiful performance! Thanks for sharing n_n
