battle rifles were an experiment project for 2525 read the 5th halo book, johnson used 1 to kill a jackal, hornets were used in the 5th book to they were used to fly johnson and his squad in on a mission. guass i have no clue.

The Battle Rifles were a mistake that the ensemble devs admited.

Hornets and Gauss tech were invented before the Human/Covenant War. Read Contact Harvest.

The Reveal Trailer for Halo Wars showed marines with battle rifles but due to a community backlash Ensemble admited they were in the wrong and we see no battle rifles in Halo Wars. Halo Wars takes place on 2531 the battle rifle was still being trialled at that time.
