I've got the 2008 350Z Roadster with the VQ35HR Engine and brembo's etc (track). I LOVE the car! It's sooo awesome. Except the duel mass flywheel. But I can tell you my car does NOT sound ANYTHING like that one in this clip. I'd almost suspect Nissan gave them one with a Nismo exhaust system on it, to make it sound better for the punters. Either that or we're ripped of in Australia. Exhaust upgrade to a true duel system is next on my "to do" list.

I almost put money down on a imported 350Z Fairlady Z but the performance was shit, Insted I got a EVO VIII the first year it came out. Now I got a EVO X and after this Im saving up for a 08 GTR. If you live in Los Angeles/OC area all the 350Z owners are druggies ex-honda boyz that got a good deal on a secound hand 05 350Z for 10,000k.
There's nothing wrong with the performance of a 350z. They perform very closely to your EVO stock for stock, and IMO look a heck of alot better. I don't have one, but I have driven several, and having owned a 300zx, the 350z is true to the spirit of the Z car.
What are YOU talking about? The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of an 07-08 350z with the HR engine are within half a second of the EVO, and they pull over .91 G's on the skidpad. I'd say that's fairly close. If you race them from a roll stock for stock, which is the real test of how fast a car truly is, the Z can win depending on the year of EVO. Racing from a dig is a test of traction as much as anything. Don't compare a G35 to an 07-08 350z, same platform, but not the same car.

From a roll, yes, they will behave similarly. From a dig, the evo will eat the 350 up. And on a track the advanced AWD EVO again dominates the 350z. If the 350z were properly light (i.e. ~2750 pounds) it would be a complete monster, but its a pig :(

The power to weight ratios of the 2 cars are very similar.. and a G35 is much more a pig than a Z, particularly a 350z that hasn't been optioned out to weigh 3400-3500lbs. Some of the Z models also have a much tighter suspension than a G35. The difference in weight and suspension makes them very different cars to drive hard.
EVO MR has a zero to 60 in less the 5 seconds too boss...
as for the g35, its a luxury vehicle, but I have the touring package which has the stiff springs, brembos, and 19'' rims. Its not completely different. :) G35 is a cruiser, 350z is more of a sports car (no back seat too)

The HR uses the new horsepower rating system, which is much more strict.... I have heard it's over 20whp higher then the old model (which is considerable!)

I personally love the 350Z. For about $30-32,500(loaded) you can get one of the coolest cars on the road for under $50k. This car is really quick, and the sound from the exhaust makes you feel like you're in a Porsche. I'm hooked on this car! This car has zero maintenance, with the exception of changing oil/fluids. Great, reliable sports car!

Yeah, but the problem with first year models are the recalls and issues they have. Just like the first year or so of the 350z, they finally fixed all the bad things, tire wear and other countless things.
I'm not sure whether to trade in my truck to get an 07/08 350z or wait until spring of next year and get the new 370z. I read that the rumor is that the new 370z will be 35,000 and up. Not sure if that's true. I wouldn't mind getting the 07/08 350z now since waiting a year is a long time. What do you guys think?

top gear needs to let the stig test the new Z.....its up 35 whp on the 03' model they tested. (SAE standards changed, if they dynoed 07's on the same dyno they used on 03's the VQ35HR would push around 325 crank horsepower)
I've raced a few Boxter's with my 07' Z and they didn't put up much of a fight in a speed race. Neither did the RX-8. The Z is heavier. But in less than perfect road conditions it's nice to have that extra weight.
Also, the Porche was the inspiring model of car which the Z was based on. Which is why it's a close comparison. Naturally a Carrera is going to smoke a Z, but the Boxter lacks the power. They're also in a higher price range than the Z.
hi - Top Gear were given a pre production model. It was not tuned ( chassis or engine ). They have since tested it again and given it great plaudits. They are fantastic.

For me I wouldn't compare the RX-8 with the 350Z. They're great cars in their own respect, but the RX-8 has four doors and the rotary while the 350Z is a strict 2-seater. If I had the money, I would buy both, because the Z is one of the all time greatest driving machines while the RX-8 is a very fun and unique experience compared to the other mundane stuff. And the rotary is very reliable, on the contrary, and just like the RX-7 can be moddified easily
I've driven both, and agree the RX-8 is fun, lighter, more agile than the 350Z, but the 350s engine has far more grunt and so for overtaking I found it easier. If I had to have one I'd go with the 350Z but agree it'd be great to have both!
I've always wanted a ZED, great car, and to me badges and snobbery are not important. I prefer to have a great cat like the Z and spend the saved dollars on something else!
I love the RX-8, its a great fun to drive, but I must say it is not as satisfying as the Z in terms of driving experience. Give the 8 another 100 hp and it is another story. But the Z does have far sexier lines (albeit an interior that leaves a bit to be desired).
I spent a bit of time in both cars before I ended up buying my Z and I have been happy with my choice.

This is a British show so she uses British English, 'Zed'. Coupé (koo-pay)is the way you say it instead of 'coop' because it's French word means to cut. Widen you eyes, America is not the only country in this world. And don't just listen to system of a down.

So what is the purpose of the light? To tell you when to shift? If that is the case, then would'nt be nice if it did it without compromising safety? You say, you should know when to shift..fine..but what does that have to do with the light's function?

she said 0-*62mph. Also, that was the heavier touring model which would decrease the acceleration as well. The horsepower might be because of slightly different ratings across the pond? Dunno bout that one though.

top gear needs to let the stig test the new Z.....its up 35 whp on the 03' model they tested. (SAE standards changed, if they dynoed 07's on the same dyno they used on 03's the VQ35HR would push around 325 crank horsepower)

I've raced a few Boxter's with my 07' Z and they didn't put up much of a fight in a speed race. Neither did the RX-8. The Z is heavier. But in less than perfect road conditions it's nice to have that extra weight.
Also, the Porche was the inspiring model of car which the Z was based on. Which is why it's a close comparison. Naturally a Carrera is going to smoke a Z, but the Boxter lacks the power. They're also in a higher price range than the Z.
Bang for the buck, I love my Z.

hi - Top Gear were given a pre production model. It was not tuned ( chassis or engine ). They have since tested it again and given it great plaudits. They are fantastic.
Today mine smashed a kinder egg that was in a box in my boot. The chocolate was outside the foil, and the foil was still wrapping the toy.

I know its sounds crazy that this is thought of better than a porche (she means the porch boxter) but these hold their value well in the UK second-hand market. So do porches but they cost a lot to run, insure, and buy making the 350z a bargain.

also cost of car is ten grand less than a porsche camann but the nissane will be worth zero in ten years time and the porsche will still be worth at least 50% of original cost.

For me I wouldn't compare the RX-8 with the 350Z. They're great cars in their own respect, but the RX-8 has four doors and the rotary while the 350Z is a strict 2-seater. If I had the money, I would buy both, because the Z is one of the all time greatest driving machines while the RX-8 is a very fun and unique experience compared to the other mundane stuff. And the rotary is very reliable, on the contrary, and just like the RX-7 can be moddified easily

I've driven both, and agree the RX-8 is fun, lighter, more agile than the 350Z, but the 350s engine has far more grunt and so for overtaking I found it easier. If I had to have one I'd go with the 350Z but agree it'd be great to have both!

I love the RX-8, its a great fun to drive, but I must say it is not as satisfying as the Z in terms of driving experience. Give the 8 another 100 hp and it is another story. But the Z does have far sexier lines (albeit an interior that leaves a bit to be desired).
I spent a bit of time in both cars before I ended up buying my Z and I have been happy with my choice.
