@chachacha3nOs lol, no he didn't... get your history right... sigh... poppin came about as early as '65.... Sam invented Electric Boogaloo... not popping.... Pete is attributed with the invention of crazy legs style...
@kanelee yes, that is what eb says all the time... if i told you i invented surfing in the 30's, would you believe me? That is what is said. They had the limelight, what else would someone say with all the attention on them in this world. Popping was around before the EB's.... Sam invented electric boogaloo... I know it sounds ludacris to you, but how can you really say you know beyond what you say they've said. It's like people saying the holocaust never happened...
@bolt3000 the reason is that i saw a video sam dancin in 70s. u kno what vid im talking about. thats a proof. u can even find from eb's website that sam invented it. right on mainpage. well, u might have a reason too i guess.
@kanelee yes, that all of that proof is from youtube, and the internet... which is not a viable source of information. Yes, there is a vid of sam from the 70's, that doesn't mean he invented popping, and doesn't mean it wasn't around before that 1 video. The EB's website says that sam invented it. Like I said before, why wouldn't it? What I learned about popping history, I didn't learn from youtube or a website. im blessed enough to have met the right people...
@bolt3000 then could you plz tell me about it? or give me any website that has a video or explanation? no offense dude. i just wanna know the truth. i cant just believe u if u say just "there was ppl danced poppin before eb". there should be a proof.
@kanelee if you message me, we can talk. I can lead you in a direction that will help you have a better understanding about the history of streetdance. It's always difficult to believe someone who says something and has no proof. What's sad is people's inability to use logic, instead only seeing what they believe. Before I even learned what I did, I reasoned deductively that popping couldn't have been created by one person, at a specific time.
@kanelee Think about popping, and just how versatile it is. Think about all the styles and concepts that encompass it. Now think about the fact that popping is claimed to have been created by someone who only does one style. E.Boogaloo. How, when, and where did all this other stuff come from? It's poppin too... but the EB's don't do it. but they invented it, right? why don't they do it? strutting is popping right? why are there vids of people doing that before the EB's arrived?
@kanelee The answer isn't in the "proof"... a video, or a website... is NOT proof of anything. It's information anyone can post. The proof is in the logic, and the nature of the development of socio-cultural activities within urban minority communities. Not gonna say too much, but this was a black and latino movement! It developed in many places at once, and at one time wasn't even called popping... think about this stuff... everyone use your brains, and don't just accept what is given.
@bolt3000 Strutting is Strutting. Poppin is Poppin. it's TOTALLY different style. sam created poppin, he used his muscle to pop and told poppin pete.pete practiced hard. now pete has been poppin for over 30 years.and i dont know where strutting came from, people awalys regard many other styles which are different from poppin as poppin, that's not right. that's what i learned, and that's what i want to share with you. on offense, just discussion. i would love to learn from. we all love dancing.
@jimiefoxx I can beyond assure you that you are wrong. You are telling the SAME story that they tell everyone. You wanted to share that with me? Everyone and their mom has tried to share that "truth" with me. Strutting came from Old Bay Cali, and you should look up the Black Resurgents. You can tell me Sam said, Pete said, a website said ALL day, you are wrong. Sam didn't invent popping. He invented Electric Boogaloo. Bottom Line, man.
@jimiefoxx btw, you can strut all day... and call it strutting... but the moment you add hits to your strutting (which is a style, but a style revolving around a form of movement).... it's POPPIN!! Yup, that's why popping is so versatile. Idc what other "style" you say your doing, if you are hitting in the style.... it becomes popping... to put it simply. That's why you could salsa if you wanted to when you pop. Popping= Dancing Robot = Technique+Movement. Just wanted to share that with you.
@bolt3000 yeah this makes me remind what my teacher told me, "some people think doing hits or pop when dancing is called Poppin"he didn't obviously told me whether it is true or not, so i've been confused for a long time for this.yeah my information is from the internet, and some of my information is from my teacher and my teacher's teacher,Poppin Kwon. (i wish u know him, one of the best popper in the world.)
@bolt3000 before u, what i learned is that Poppin is a style, like hippop, locking or house and so on, its from Link. hey i really appreciate i met u here and thank u for the infermation u gave me. and i would like to learn about the difference between Style and Styling, i really wanna know your opnion. some say styling is much like personal moves like Pete doing Spiderman or Crazy legs. i don't really get it. when pete came to my country to tell us more about the Boogaloos, he once explained...
@jimiefoxx thanks man, I like conversing with you on this. I guess that is one way to put it. Styling, and Style. A Style is a complete dance, with a form, names, and it is original. It should allow someone to be free within it's characteristics. Styling goes by many names... from what you've heard, I think it's like you said. Someone's personal thing, that only they can do. It's like how some people have signature movements only they can do properly. though i've never heard that term before.
@bolt3000 oh yeah i can understand it a bit more, thanks a lot :) after conversing with u, i found an interview in an website. its from Scooby, though i don't know who he is. He said that Boogaloo Sam just learned the art and he mentioned Black Resurgents and another one. he said that EBs was lucky to be famous and something like that. and he said that poppin startd 60s and EB was 70s (1976) and also said Sam was disrespectful to black people, Don has right to say he invent Locking.
@jimiefoxx no, thank you man... I'm usually met with disbelief when I talk about this stuff... the evidence is in the logic. I'm just happy I know who I know...
@bolt3000 yeah thank u man, u made me question what i bealieved before, and try to find the true of things. the things u can see with ur eyes are not all true, while things u couldn't see don't mean they don't exsist, right? yeah u lucky man! glad to meet u.
@bolt3000 if this is the truth ur telling people, i think maybe uve read the article or i can give it to u:) but firstly, i wanna know who Scooby is. he didn't do but teach, interesting. So i wanna know the origin of Poppin much more badly. He also mentioned Oakland, California.
alright, Sam invented poppin and boogaloos (which are called Boog Style) i wanna know if it is true. is Boog Style basically including Poppin and Boogalooin? if so then Sam didn't lie at least. i just wanna assure that
@jimiefoxx actually, i've never seen that interview, but I would love the link! I learned from first and second hand knowledge. Some of my teachers are old! lmao! What Sam invented in Electric Boogaloo... poppin was around before then. Scooby... name sounds familiar, but I don't remember who that was. All I have to say is, Sam didn't invent popping. Boog Style is Electric Boogaloo, but there are MANY other styles of popping. Oakland, Cali is one of the birthplaces of true popping!
@bolt3000 ure so lucky to learn from the second or even the first hand! it's so cool! im a student and i learned from a student of a popper named Kwon who would be the first one in my country learned from the EBs. but Kwon didn't actually become one of the EB members though EBs invited him to join them. this is what my teacher told me. they are both good poppers, and i think u might be interested in Poppin Kwon. Hes good, true!
@bolt3000 to us.many people who learned to dance said that is all the same, all that is poppin when pete explained it is different styles. i really love discussing with u and much respect to the EB's. i saw Black Resurgents dancing, it's classic! true.
btw i saw ur videos(u dancing) and i found the way u pop(LEGS PART) was hurtin ur knees, i mean it! just want u to know, actually i did it before, and it truly hurt me.we cant raise our heel when to pop. hope i help.
@jimiefoxx lol, thanks man... but which vid did you see me dancing in???? I've had vids on here since before I even knew how to pop... but was trying... anyway... idk, my knees don't usually hurt when I pop... they... my body does stuff most people can't... When I do pop my legs though, I'm not using my knees, I'm using my muscles to straighten my legs... to keeps from hyper extending my knees...
@bolt3000 it say ''this is me ...." i know pop is using muscle, but it could damage your knees for sure, at least Pete highlights it all the time.i think im not so good that i can teach u anything. just trying to let u know what i learned. tks man.
who knows the last song name??
