the door would only lock from the inside so if charlie did get out the water would flood the whole complex and desmond would be dead too...plus since penny was on the computer monitor desmond would try as hard as he could to get in the room even tho the room was flooding.

first of all, that would be true, but remember Desmond was preparing the scuba gear, and that room is pretty big and would take maybe up to a minute to fill up. They could have time to at least strap on an oxygen tank and swim out. if they can hold their breath long enough to get inside, they should be able to swim out too
