The California pistachios are harvested much more cleanly and processed much quicker than those from outside the USA. Safer product to eat and enjoy.

@jwhitehead3brat Not true, in fact, there is a high risk of contamination in the USA because of the dense agricultural areas pistachios are grown in & the heavily automated processing. You might remember the salmonella problem a few years ago. Also, Cali pistachios are actually from an Iranian cultivar, so the point is moot. Even among nuts from the mid east, there're many different varieties; I enjoy Antep Turkish pistachios since Iranian ones are banned for political reasons. They're all safe!

We cannot get Iranian pistachios here in America. As a punishment to Iran and the American consumer, it is now against the law to import Iranian pistachios. The price of them has gone up hugely and we can no longer get good Turkish ones in the stores. So we can now eat only big, tasteless California pistachios or pay $15 a pound for little Anteps from Zenobia through the mail. I'll take the Zenobias, but Christ - fifteen bucks a pound?...
