  • Footy didn't seem so Americanized back than. Too much flooding, time wasting and sleeve tatts these days.

  • ughhhhhhhhhhhhhgg not long tooo the NAB cup hurry up football

  • 0:32 - A Collingwood supporter holding a "West Coast Wankers" sign! I used to see this footage every weekend on Channel 7 and never noticed it til now!

  • @AndysF1 Geelong supporter even!

  • @AndysF1 I remember these stickers being produced and issued in Melbourne in the week leading up to the 1992 Grand Final between Geelong and the Eagles. Sam Newman showed one of the stickers live on Melbourne TV during the football tips segment prior to the game when he was asked who would win the GF. Cheap shots at the Eagles were OK then, encouraged in fact in Melbourne, then the Eagles won the premiership twice in 3 years.

  • Something magical about footy in the 90s

  • Where can I buy this song?

  • wow how sentimental did i just get watchin this

  • back in the day when footy was just the best. now the rules theyre bringing in these days are just polluting what was the greatest game

  • the days when players didnt get suspended and fined for breathing on an umpire, contested marks and tackles were common, and brownlow votes were given to the best 3 players on ground!

  • @Giumelz Contested marks and tackles were common? Contested marks are at the highest they have been for years! Teams are getting 100+ tackle counts in a game now! Unheard of back in the 80's and 90's.

  • @lachlan407 hmmm, I watched a game from the 90's and it seemed to me that players would kick to a contest more often than in todays game, anyway the brand of football played in the 90s was great to watch :)

  • Andrew Demetriou should watch this video

  • wow football has gotten so fucking shit, these where the days, i wish i had of been alive to see football throughout the 80's, from being one of the most fanatical supporters anywhere, i just dont care anymore, hate the game style, so shit

  • @piesfan3 ll money no heart today.

  • Real Football, none of this bent Riewoldt Haricuts and micie sleeve tatz, real victorian footy, CDFC2011

  • Footy's back! If only it was 90s footy.

  • Champs thanks 4 this. It has pumped he up 4 this season!! GO PIES!! and time 4 a new song!!

  • 1990s footy thats where it was at - none of the bs that goes on today

  • Vuvuzela at 1:24.

  • Damn it, if only the AFL still used grounds like Princes Park, Whitten Oval, Moorabbin, Vic Park, Windy Hill, Waverley, Arden St (yes, that wasn't used after the 80's but hey I'm biased :P)

Would give anything to go back to the glory days of suburban AFL...

  • Comment removed

  • the roar of the crowd when that final siren goes and your team win

that's what i like about football

  • @damod15 Hating Collingwood....that's what I like about football

  • wat happened to this song y dont they being it back

  • What about that North Melbourne woman? She really had charisma - and dare I say it, sex appeal. Now what have we got? Joffa.

  • young gazza ablett at 7seconds

  • young gazza ablett at 7seconds

  • those were the days, back in the 90s, where all the club mascots looked real and not modernized.. where channel 7 had the footy

  • Gee, it doesn't matter what walk of life footy supporters come from because once you have gone through the turnstiles we are (well most of us) all the same..... Oh @ 01:26 that guy looked like he had one of those annoying Vuvuzela's :-)

  • Love it!

  • GREAT STUFF TAKES ME BACK TO WHEN I USED TO TAKE MY 3 BOYS TO PRINCES PARK AH THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!

  • Footy in the 90's was alot more exciting to the footy now

  • Is that a vuvuzela at 1:26?

  • farkin great old days, where did they go??????????

  • ah the good old days....it was a good time and a great theme song...bring it back!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE MY FOOTY (Even If The Tiges Are Doing Shit)

  • Away we go for 2010. Footy. Thank goodness it's back.

  • Says a lot about us Cats during that time...all the Geelong bits are Gary Snr! Can't complain, he is the greatest.

  • @FootballFAQs No Billy?!?!

  • Bring it.

    Go Tiges

  • W.B r gonna own st kilda and any1 else

  • At 0:32 "West Coast Wankers".

  • Modra

  • what a song rivarlys holy grail

  • fucking great song. love the afl

  • I hated this song 15 years ago and I still hate it now!!

  • sensational

  • this song makes me proud to be aussie and to be a supporter of such an incredible sport.

  • right on buddy! not long now, not long now.....

  • this song is great

  • what more can you say :)

  • footy was great back then because it was full of wogs: alessio, misiti, rocca, daicos, crossisca, mercuri, koutifidies, ricardi, christou, silvagni, modra, jackovich, matera, sumich, camporeale, liberatore, dimatina and the list goes on.. mixed with the likes of ablett, lockett, dunstall, bradley, hird, bucks.. what do you expect? now footy is just full of panzies and the wogs like deledio and priddis are nothing like their predecessors.

  • Fucken oath

  • alan jackovich was a clown on the field, but good for a laugh or two...

lol at the big smooch he gave to little bro Glenn

  • St KILDA FC FOREVER

  • Those were the days. The only thing that has remained constant since this video is the "Enjoy Donuts" van at 0:26.

  • S E P T E M B E R

Thats what I like about football!

  • @jrt2009, Winter, thats what I like about Football AFL is the best!

  • @jrt2009 yeah october doesnt have the same ring to it

  • thats what i like baby!!

  • Best game in the world. Soccer is boring. NFL is a joke and boring too, take your pads off you pussies

  • Our version of football is the real deal not helmets, shoulder pads and so on like NFL (American football) is

  • It's a different game dik. And why are AFL players wearing headgear now? They never used to, HA HA

  • the one afl player i know that wears headgear, Graham Polak, he wears it because he sustained serious head injuries last year

  • i only know 1 who wears headgear, that is polak he has to because he got hit by a tram and cant risk his brain getting rattled anymore

  • its a classic, probably not suitable for today but still a top song and highlights.

  • love this song. so nineties. makes me feel ten years old again, just pure passion for football

  • this song rocks go SAINTS

  • no-neck bumsniffers who get crowds of around 9,000 at games? lmfao

And they shit in hallways of hotels?

    And gang rape?

  • HA HA!! Lol best song ever, love the haircuts!! Did i get a glance of Kevin Sheedy and his famous scarf/jacket swing in the air 1:50?

    GO THE BOMMERS!!

  • St Kilda FOREVER

  • The era of the high flyers like Modra,Ablett Snr is what made footy in the 90's alot better than today

  • YEAH !!! thats what footy meens to me

  • great song

  • who's the player at 0:07 ? is it peter sartori?

  • nah he woulda been at carlton that year

  • No it's Jason West

  • cheers

  • top song

  • lovvved the 90s.

Another good thing about it is that just about every team was competitive. Barring Freo and Port Adelaide, I'm pretty sure every side made the prelim at least

  • Port and freo didnt make it cause port only came in in 97 and freo 95. Btw i don't think richmond made a prelim. Lol freo has only made one prelim to this day..so shit.

    Go power!!!

  • richmond did in 95

  • 1995 they made a prelim and got beaten by the cats

  • grerat song!

    i love footy!

is that gary jr or nathan with gary ablett snr?

does anyone know how to get this song on mp3 or somehow get the cideo???

  • I have the mp3 ...

  • where did you get it from?

  • so...many...mullets !

  • Mainy at 0:59 :(

  • God, I used to hate this song, now I'm massively pining for the glory days of 1994 and I was totally wrong! I miss the days of Woosha flattening everything that moved and Peter Matera and even Waverley Park!

  • All Waverley needed was a train station, then it would have been perfect.

  • The 90s was all about the personalities, eh. Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett, Kernahan, Carey, Hawkins, Bradley, Jarman, Long. They were all institutions of their clubs (in Jarman's case two), and added so much to the colour of footy. We just don't get those kind of characters in this fitness-first brand of footy. Oh well, at least the Hawks are reigning again! :D

  • In our case we had Jakovich, Woosha, Mainy, Matera, Turley, Langdon, Lewis, the REAL Mick Malthouse...strong personalities representing our club week in week out who hated losing and gave everything for the club. We don't have strong characters like that now, it's been bred out of the game, individuality and swagger. Our captain now is Darren Glass! Enough said!

  • I cannot agree more!! The 90's was a great era for footy and it has just not been the same since!!

  • Check out Paul Roos at :21

  • that's what football means to me.. that's how i like my footy to beee yer..!

    awesome memories!

  • Hey, where is Craig with his deep voice "this is a 7 Sport production!" at the end!

  • *deep voice* this has been a 7 sport production ... *coughs, hacks and wheezes*

  • Footy in the 1990s was unbeatable. Since then the AFL has become more of a business and less about entertainment.

  • yeah i totally agree. football used to be alot better back in the day and alot more traditional its like people dont get into as much as they used to. im from w.a. and normally the derby over here is a real competetive feeling but i dont get that anymore.

  • Completely agreed. I have just watched this and remembered the game i used to love. When as a teenager i could rock up to the MCG at 10am and get a seat at the front and watch the Collingwood reserves lose just before seeing the seniors lose as well. These days if you dont pay $800 for a membership you are treated like a nobody. Also take into account that the game has gone backwards with the constant rule changes and the over umpiring we see every week. Btw great song and clip.

  • Good post. While it's unreasonable to expect and hope for nothing to change, some things have been excessive.

Around the time of this video we all believed we followed the best game on the planet. The question I ask is why would you change something that is the best?

  • yep totally agree. very good call. The game has suffered as a result of trying to play international rules and changing rules constantly.

  • We can thank the whinging players for the rule changes. Everybody pays out on the umps, but if players could just deal with the fact that some rules have their downsides as well as upsides, we would never need these rule changes. Oh how I miss the days of colourful footy: big fellas like Plugger, old blokes like McDermott (seen in this clip), mysterious characters like Winmar, little thugs who couldn't kick like Tony Shaw.

Thanks for posting this Mitch, and Carn the Hawks!!

  • Spot on mate.

Footy in the 90s was the absolute best. I never actually thought we would one day look back on it so fondly.

  • thanks so much...i have been trying to find this song everywhere. dIDN'T KNOW WHO IT WAS BY...THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!

  • good call hilzy

  • That is without doubt a great song that brings back so many superb memories of watching footy as a kid. stirring stuff

  • Wicked!

  • love seein chris mainwaring in there a tragedy what happened to that guy and his family

  • how can you download youtube videos that song is a classic i remember singing it when i was a kid ey

  • If you're using firefox you can add on download helper. I don't know how to do it but you can Google it. Sorry I couldn't be any more assistance.

  • football use to much better a decade ago. U can just see how much more the crowd would influence the game, i mean you could just walk onto the ground straight after the game and give the players a pat on the back now u see players get escorted off the ground surrounded by security guards when they kick a ton. Shame on you andrew demetriou. Bring back the 1990's and Wayne Jackson One more thing when was the last time you saw the cheer squad behind the goals throwing streamers onto the ground?????

  • I gave you a thumbs up because you are spot on the money.

  • Gazzzaaaa right at the end! What a star!

  • One word: AWESOME

  • carn da crows premiers 2009

  • take a number, cats will be going for their 3 peat :)

  • no they wont

  • 2009, 2010, 2011 :) hehe Probably not now, it's hard to win just the one!

  • lol gues the hawks ruined that hey mate lol

  • hehe they sure did. Oh well!

Hawks played really well while Geelong kicked themselves out of the game. Hawthorn were the better team on the day. Geelong were clearly the better team of the year.

Good luck to you and your team for 2009, may it be a successful one! Cheers

  • KILLLLLAAAAARRRRR!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song by a fantastic musician and comedian. Easy song to play on the guitar for a sing along.

  • this song makes you wanna get up and chant for your team.. this song makes you pumped lol

    Go Tigers

  • Those were the days! LOL @ 0:32!

  • Wouldn't it be great to make a copy from the 2000s - for example, ending with Moorcroft's mark instead of Ablett's, and all the highlight's of the 2000s.

Fantastic video, absolutely loved the 1990s. Best footy by far.

  • Yes, or Edwards from the Semi. In slow-motion looks sensational.

  • Or Gary Jr crying after the GF, how would that be for a finale!!

  • Is the kid posing with Gazza at 0:08 Gary Jr or Nathan? This video does have Jobe Watson in it, and Brayden (?) Shaw, Tony Shaw Jr who was on the Pies list and didn't play a game after all!

  • I think the kid's just a fan, seems to be female :) On the topic though, it is great to see Jobe Watson out playing for his old man's team. And Travis Tuck starting to cement his place at the Hawks, Cyril too. Footy families are wonderful things aren't there?

  • its called emotion in an emotional game. l think every team has emotional players that play with heart. something that you lack- you must barrack for a shit team that never makes it to a gf.... rfc l take it!

  • That was a great video done by Channel 7 and a awesome footy song penned by Greg Champion.

  • If you want to see good country Aussie Rules, visit:

    Beautiful Day Wagga

  • The 90's the decade that delivered.

  • so glad i lived through the 90's. It really was a great decade of football. The game today has changed so much, its unbelievable. I prefer the old days, but I still love my footy. Also this is the best footy song by a country mile. Cheers

  • this just makes me wish i was an adult back then, so i could go to one of the suburban grounds to watch real footy, none of this basketball non contact shit.

    7 should bring this back!!!

  • That's exactly what I always say, I was born in 1986 and wish I was around in the era of suburban grounds.

I still have mine though - Go Cats!

  • all aussie rules diehards, must go to gugger100 on you tube....for ball.yes , one of the classic football songs, circa 1991

  • I remember this on TV ad back in the '90s. This is a good mixed clip. Also I used to like that girl on 00:34 with Geelong paint on her face. Great memories & thanks for posting this on!

  • Anyone read the sticket at 0:32! How did that go to air?!

  • Allen Jakovich !!!!!

  • classic

  • always sends the hairs on my back up, should be played before everygame, great advert for the game

  • these were the days... these songs were all you used to hear at the footy from about 1993-1998. nostalgia flooding back!

    go you bloods!

  • Geez that is so good. Couldn't of been sung by a nicer guy as well. Let's please get this back onto C7 this year

  • I'll never forget that day Allan Jakovich gave Glenn a big kiss on the cheek after kicking a goal. Comedy gold

  • bloody oath! channel 7 have gotta bring it back!!! never gets old and never get sick of it!

  • Old school song, but still a favourite for many I'm sure.

  • Which year was this the theme? They must bring it back!

  • 1994 I believe, could have been used in '95 too, this is based on footage i've seen from those years, I was out of the country and missing AFL heaps

  • Yes it was first played towards the end of the 1994 season, and for the entire 1995 season. In 1996 Channel 7 recorded a "instrumental" version of the song. I agree that the song should be brought back, but not played to death.

  • Just wondering, do you hav a copy of the instrumental version of the song? Seem to recall it from 1997

  • I would suggest '95 coz Ablett's mark was in 1994.

  • It was in 1994 when this song came out. Because I still have Greg Champion's CD album in that year!

  • this should seriously be channel 7s theme this year!!! just seeing this would make up for last years coverage lol honestly there should be a petition to get this back on the air lol

mitch mate thanx heaps for posting this

  • TA MitchMiller123, loved this as a kid (still got it on cd), pity about the opening missing but never mind, done a bloody good job mate.

  • omg!! i remember this song from when i was little...i absolutely loved it!!

    thanks

  • This is the best football song, along with Holy Grail.

  • Holy Grail is good if played sparingly...but Ten played it to death for 6 years and its just a sissy song to me now.

  • How is Holy Grail a football song? Apart from Channel 10 ruining it for five years?

  • haha love it!! :D

  • props to Greg Champion, a great Australian.

  • good stuff mitch been searchin for this for some time!! LOVED this as a kid!

  • hats of to ya mitch for having this... much appreciated. especially with it having a couple of Mainy's highlights in there.

  • yep also been trying to get to see this again, well done Mitch!

  • Mitch u bloody star!!

Been checking you tube for ages for this classic.

Some absolute legends of the game in this clip!

    Cheers!

  • *sniff

    great to hear again...cheers
