The interpretation of Nefertiti by Miles Davis was like this probably. However, this is definitely not comfortable and smooth one even though the chord progression is complicated. Is it just only for me? I personally prefer the feeling of "so what " and " On green dolphin street ". Ahmad Jamal who Miles admire knows more about music.....I suppose.
lol..... right, he once said to bill evans: "bill, now you know we all brothers and shit and everything's in this thing together and so what i came up with for you is tha you got to do it with everybody, you know what i mean? you got to fuck the band."
Nefertiti is a superb album, one of the best by the Second Great Miles Quintet. It's very silky and laid back, but also melodic and danceable. The whole band gels perfectly, as a unit.
All six Second Quintet albums are classics, but there's something particularly special about Nefertiti. I hope the rest of the album's songs would appear on Youtube.
haha, of course if i search the album in my entire country(it's Malaysia, btw) i'll found one, i don't have THAT much time to look for it though. And it's not THAT rare, just a bit hard to find.
My brother would play this album incessantly in the 60's when I was a child. I couldn't stand it then but when I reached the age of 16 I suddenly realised how beautiful it was and have loved and listened to it ever since. Simply the best jazz quintet ever!
I can not stop listening to this song. I found it last week when looking up pictures of Miles Davis and this song was embedded into a blog about Davis. I never heard the song before but now I can not get enough!!!
I have this album on vinyl - found it at a record store about 3 years ago. It's amazing how even though they trumpet/sax solo keeps repeating itself it never gets monotonous or boring. Listening to the drumming, I can see how Miles was just edging closer and closer toward rock music - there's no elec. guitar or keyboard but the signs are everywhere. The whole album is great, though

jazz is often blue and very sad, it sings to our rainy days as well as our sunfilled days.....that's why blues and jazz is from the heart!

I dont understand how he (wayne shorter that is) thought of this chord progression. Let alone this melody. So haunting

Yes...definitely a Wayne Shorter tune. He was the main writer for this group. "Pinocchio" and "Fall" are brilliant tunes...from this same album.

yeah i agree with that. but still, the album is rare nowadays, especially in my country.
skyeSleaf 2 years ago
@Ra1nemaker I preferred the first great quintet. But Shorter certainly knew how to write good Jazz waltzes that much is for sure.
