Even going back to the very recent past, the GTO rocked and was called a "cut-rate 3 series" by Jeremy Clarkson. And before that, the 2002 Trans Am was a real beast. Not efficient? my 03 pontiac bonneville SSEi gets 28 mpg.highway 19 city and i have the the performance of a sports car and the luxury of a caddy and with the 3800seriesII v-6 was one of wards top 10 best engines of the twentieth century,and has proven its self as very reliable with only routine service required so... oh yeah and i can also 0-60 in 6.5 sec and qtr mile in 14s all that with the economy of a small engine and the power and torque of a large engine.

Planned obsolescence, terrible fuel economy, and frequent maintenance requirements dominate the auto industry today. I will never purchase a new car again unless they actually fix these problems.

Automakers are a for profit business so yes they are out to make money and yes they will produce whatever will make them the most money. That is the point of any business.

Fuel economy depends on what you buy. You want better fuel economy buy a smaller car. In fact fuel economy today is quite impressive considering both the power and economy of engines are increasing simultaneously.

Doesn't gas/diesel vehicles cover the entire market. Even the 1% of the market that is hybrid vehicles use gas.

Maybe the quality is on the way up but they still look like someone's nightmare...they are SO FREAKING UGLY! I guess you nobody told you that Damiler AG (the GERMAN company in charge of making Mercedes and Maybachs) has owned Chrysler since 1998 (although they sold it last spring to Cerberus). Hell, the 300c platform is based on parts from the S Class (W220) and the E Class (W210). The 5 speed auto? Mercedes design. Do Germans design Chryslers? I don't know, but they have SOMETHING to do with it.

They ARE getting better, the new Cady CTS-V is pretty damn sharp inside. But a Audi always blows normal cars away. Japs are in between Euro and American, but will last longer and good price on parts. I love my Subaru.
