The reason most people bash Catholics is because we are a true faith and it is a very difficult road to follow. Further, the Bible does not say Jesus was born on the 25th of December, it's actually been worked out to show that it definitely is not. The 25th is just the day we use to celebrate it, probably for the reasons you mention.
