Social awareness is great - essentially a restatement of the golden rule. John Nash stated that its best to do what is in the interest of oneself, and the group at large (if you remove the first part of the statement, you just have socialism/collectivism).
Which leaves us with a question...if society = a system, and if the system is itself anti-social, being socially aware will paradoxically perpetuate social disintegration.
